The area, Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary, is very nice. However long ago the Red Deer River used to meander quite a bit through there, now there are two bodies of water surrounded by roads and buildings. @DanielKezar I'm trying to find more information on when "Gaetz Lakes" formed. But I know one thing for sure... before Dickson Dam was built the river would flood every spring and summer and dry up just as things froze up in the fall. Since the dam we have regulated flows, a year round supply, and they can give us the exact second levels will peak/flood here(when the dam levels max out).

@@KirkHermary glad to see you getting outside! There's a river near me called the Saco that changes course with the season as well.
