    Interesting fact about Scream 3:
    The original script was VERY different. Stu Macher was meant to survive having that TV dropped on his face in the first movie, and then end up in prison. He would then start orchestrating a new string of killings, by using a couple of new high school students that he was somehow connected to, and had communication with from the inside.
    Just weeks before filming started, the Columbine shooting happened. As a result, writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Cravin decided that making a movie about 2 high schoolers murdering their peers would have hit too close to home. That version of the film was shelved, and THIS version was written instead.

      @@crystalsnow1138 I think I would have liked the original version better. I can respect the reasons they had for scraping the original idea though. Even Neve Campbell mentioned in a recent interview that she felt that the whole Roman being Sid’s half-brother sub-plot was pretty out of left field.

  • @notyouraveragebear9326
    @notyouraveragebear9326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +86

    39:55 the reason people say the reveal was revolutionary is because there wasn’t many horror films at that point with 2 killers. So everyone was assuming it was 1 person the whole time. And it was genius because they wrote Billy as an obvious killer to the point where it made too much sense for him to be the killer by the middle of the movie. So it was almost reverse psychology to the audience and we were like, “it can’t be him. Too obvious.” And then it ended up BEING Billy all along AND a second killer. So yes, it was revolutionary for its time and how it was written and directed.

    One very cool and subtle thing that carries over into the sequels (including this film) is that Syd wears Derek's letters (from pt II) around her neck. She never could let him go or get over the fact that right up until his death, she feared that he might be one of the killers in pt II.

      And there is also subtle hints that Billy was the killer like when Randy, Stu and other people was watching Halloween and one of the partygoers got upset that the blood was too red. I think half the issue with Scream 3 as a film is that Kevin Williamson (the writer of the first two) had become so busy that all he had was a rough outline for the script, and another writer (Ehren Krueger) came in to write the script. With some scenes, not being given to the actors until the day of shooting, as it was being written as it was being filmed. Many people do theorize that there was a second killer (Angelina [aka the new Sidney in Stab] was drafted as one in one of the scripts and was originally going to be a former classmate of Sidney's and Roman's lover). One of the highlights of this film is easily Parker Posey as Jennifer Jolie (aka Gale in Stab), her comedic timing and performance is one of the reasons, why despite Scream 3 being my personal, least favorite of the franchise, makes the film still rewatchable.

    • @mellysomething6296
      @mellysomething6296 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has nothing to do with Kevin being to busy. The film already had the entire setup planned out.
      The tragic columbine shooting is what ultimately made the rewrites happen and it become so messy. Stu was originally supposed to be alive, Angelina was supposed to be a killer.
      It had nothing to do with schedules or bringing in new writers.

    The thing about the Billy twist that works is that everyone expected one killer. That was the norm. Billy was the obvious so it makes you question it knowing theres a twist. Especially with the time between Billy coming threw the window and Stu leaving the door. Stu being the second killer is the big twist.

  • @josephparker4022
    @josephparker4022 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Kevin Williamson unfortunately didn't write this so that probably was one of the main reasons it's not so good. Also, at one point the fake Sidney actress was going to be a second killer which is why she's caught with the costume and she disappears for a while around the house blowing up scene and her death is fairly vague.

Normally, the part for the bangs goes further back (closer to the center of your head) but for some reason, this stylist just barely gave her a middle part then chopped the bangs WAY too short. Courtney hated/hates them just as much as everyone else. I'm just wondering why no other stylist on set saw this and didn't attempt to make a part further back to attempt to give her better bangs.

    As a lot of folks have mentioned, this film (like its predecessor) was a victim of script leaks which led to a lot of last minute scenes and editing to keep the killer reveal a mystery. In one of those leaks, Angelina was meant to be one of the killers. During editing, they kept a lot of her build-up scenes which, unfortunately, led to a convoluted mess of a final cut, where the audience is left wondering why so many of her (out of place) scenes appeared.

Roger Jackson created everything that is so sinister and chilling about Ghostface in his VO, the malicious phone calls, the taunting, makes him so creepy. And the other voices just don’t work. I wonder if it was some kind of contract disagreement that he isn’t used the whole time.

    The final act where Sidney stabs Roman, Neve Campbell actually did stab Scott Foley. His screams of pain were legit.
    This Scream is not a good movie. It's a fun movie.

    In another script Angelina was the second killer. Which explains some of her weird behavior thru the movie. I remember seeing the trailer on t.v and thinkin the detective was the killer lol. the acting with the "Stab" cast was horrible but I think that was the point. I hate it and love it overall all this one the killer has the best motive and that it was revealed Roman is who sparked the idea in Billy and Stu's head.

    Haha so just a couple of things: Judy Jergenstern is Jennifer’s actual name. Jennifer Jolie is her stage, hence the brad Pitt reference and her name (Jennifer Aniston & Angelina Jolie)
    Also Stab 1 and 2 were based off the events we saw in scream 1 and 2. For Stab 3 they were just making stuff up

    Entertaining? Yes!
    Bad writing? Yes!
    I just have one question, I NEVER got answered:
    If Roman was searching for Sidney in the beginning of the movie, HOW AND WHEN DID HE FIND OUT, WHERE SHE WAS??? How and when did he find out her phone number and that she was "Laura"??? That´s NEVER explained as far as I´ve noticed, but I think it would have been important.............

    • @mandycaz5562
      @mandycaz5562 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard someone say recently that Cotton apparently knew where she was. I don't know why he would though 🤷🏼‍♀️ but that's why the killer went to him and asked where she was.

    • @mandycaz5562
      @mandycaz5562 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also they did make it a point about other people using Dewey's phone. He said just Jennifer and Kincaid. Idk if Roman was able to get ahold of his phone at one point too, and get it back without being noticed. Or if that was just a red herring towards Kincaid being the killer.

    Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was being filmed at the same time on the same lot and featured Wes Craven (as himself) directing a new, hilariously terrible, Scream movie. It was a fantastic meta joke!

    Ah, this came out the year before "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", in which Wes Craven is directing "Scream 4".
    Wait. So, Jay and Bob exist in the Scream Universe, but the Scream movies exist in the Askewniverse.
    Weird. But then again Jay and Silent Bob were also Jedi in a Star Wars comic (well, an official parody), so there you go...

    My favorite of the series is still Scream 2. With Scream 3 I like it too but not as much , it’s like I understand what they were trying to do but it just fell flat . So sometimes I’ll let certain stuff “slide” cause they meant well if that makes sense. I loved the house set scene, and how the killer could change his voice , even Cotton’s death at the beginning of the movie. But definitely agree with you on the jump scares.

    It's ironic and humorous that you mentioned your ”negative" reaction being a problem (this one generally being the least enjoyed of the franchise overall). Just speaking for myself, I find very little enjoyment watching this movie beyond Parker Posey's over-the-top performance.

  • @je7055
    @je7055 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It actually works okay as a comedy. They really should've dove headfirst into that aspect of it, like Sam Raimi with Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. But yeah, as a Scream movie, lots of us share in your disappointment Mell. EDIT: "...I _guess,_ man" lmao yep, perfect reaction to the asinine twist. Then again I had completely forgotten about the scene where GAIL LITERALLY CHECKS ROWAN'S PULSE AND CONFIRMS HE'S DEAD. Disregard the working okay as a comedy, this movie is kinda just a heap of shit.

  • @XghostXfaceX2
    @XghostXfaceX2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I mean there won’t be too much push back on your opinion on this one. I hated this movie as a teenage because it takes away from the motivation or demystifies the original killers in a way. But over time I have learned to love it. Despite it’s weaknesses it’s still a fun Scooby-Doo caper to watch.
    Again I really can’t wait for you to see Scream 4! Again I can’t praise that movie enough. I hope you’ll be able to consider how ahead of it’s time it was with the context of things that’s happen in the ten years that passed since 2011.
    But also if you don’t like it, it is what it is🤷🏻‍♂️

    There’s a fan theory that Roman was the Ghostface that was in the bushes & following Sidney in the grocery store in the first movie. It’s an interesting way to really tie it all together since Roman being the mastermind of it all is really out of left field.

    • @cptayne
      @cptayne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like this theory, but the only problem with it is that Roman only supplied the motivation he didn't know Billy and Stu were going to go on a killing spree. With that said, because Roman didn't know, he wouldn't have known to buy the same exact costume that the original killers used because he wouldn't have known they were going to choose those as their outfits

    • @insertname193
      @insertname193 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He wasn’t there. Roman had said “I had no idea they would make a movie of their own”.

    • @a.j.sumano7578
      @a.j.sumano7578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He doesn’t say that at all, he actually says “Once I supplied the motivation, all the kid needed was a few pointers. Have a partner to sell out in case you get caught, it was like he was making a movie…” it’s totally likely the costume & the order of the spree was Roman’s idea & the three of them planned it together. But obviously since it wasn’t planned from the beginning, you can’t connect all the dots.

    Scream 3 is the low point of this franchise, so your feelings about this film are understandable. Scream 4 is what I consider to be the true sequel to Scream 2. It goes back to form with some new energy. I'm looking forward to your reaction to Scream 4!

    I don’t mind your opinion but you’re just going to have to understand what kind of movie you’re going into, a slasher movie.
    It is true that there are outrageous stupid elements, but the filmmakers are very aware of that. It’s a commentary on slasher movie sequels and how inferior and ridiculous they turn out to be, including cameos most of them had.
    Don’t think Wes Craven had lost his touch. Just keep this in mind going on into the fourth movie. The fourth will deal with remakes around 2011. When they replaced the Campiness of the series they were remaking with a more realistic gritty style and gore. Yes, slasher movies will always have stupid moments. Let’s just check our brains in at the door when it comes to these kinds of movies and have some fun. I enjoy your laughs.

    I actually like it better when movie reviewers are honest with their opinions on movies because it gives the viewers a more honest sense of the movie rather than having the reviewer saying what they think the viewer wants to hear which makes it harder to know what people really think and going them go into the movies with unrealistic expectations.

  • @stevenjohnvasquez9112
    @stevenjohnvasquez9112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, man! Love your reactions!
    The reason that the writing and such in this film seems so uneven is because they had to ax the original idea. Originally Matt Lillard was going to reprise his role of accomplice Stu Macher from the first film having survived the tv dropped on his head (Watch that moment again but pay attention to his stomach just before the cut from the shot of him under the tv-His stomach is still moving, showing he’s breathing). In that original script Stu was in prison and horribly disfigured from the tv drop. He was sort of tutoring Woodsboro High students from a Stab fan club who were obsessed with the film and the string of murder that inspired it. Then the Columbine shooting happened and they felt it’d hit too closely to that real life tragedy soon after it occurred so it was scrapped.
    The Hollywood film sequel story took its place and it was said to have been constantly rewritten during filming (often script segments were rewritten and given to the actors on day of filming respective scenes).
    Also you have a good eye suspecting that actress Angelina who portrayed Sidney on the in-universe Stab sequel. In the original script she was going to be Roman’s lover and accomplice who also turned out to be a former schoolmate of Sidney at Westboro who was obsessed with her and wanting her fame.

    Scream 3 is by far the worse, but it had a lot against it. Only had Neve for a limited time, the original writer wasn’t able to complete the script and a new writer brought in, lots of studio interference, and like always MPAA came down hard on them.

    Scream 3 is definitely the weakest link in the Scream franchise. Scream 3 had a change in writers, from Kevin Williamson to Ehren Kruger, the writer for Transformers. The violence was also toned down because Columbine happened a few weeks before shooting.
