    "If from a ship thou take away the helmsman, thou wilt sink the vessel; so too if from a flock thou remove the shepherd thou has overthrown and destroyed all...When the ruler is bad, no small evil it is, but even a far worse evil than anarchy. For it is better to be led by no one than to be led by one who is evil. For the former indeed are oftentimes saved, and oftentimes are in peril, but the latter will be altogether in peril, being led into the pit of destruction."
    - St. John Chrysostom (Homily on Hebrews XXXIV): NPNF 1st Ser., XIV:518, 519"
    “Keep an eye on your bishops as far as their Orthodoxy is concerned lest they go so far as to teach doctrines against the true faith or celebrate with heretics and schismatics. As far as other things, they act out of ignorance or because the days are evil and they will give an account to God only.”
    - St. Gennadios Scholarios

      @@COGMOFWOC7 a simple study of history, scripture and a comparison of the two paths will easily show that the Roman Catholic Church is the one who broke away from the true church. And even by RC standards they have left their own system, Vatican 1 vs. Vatican 2. It was already a departure from the true faith, but it has departed in more and more ways and cannot be reconciled with itself, let alone with the true Church unless there is massive repentance and reform back to Orthodoxy. Lord have mercy!

    As someone who is in the GOA it is beyond maddening/confusing/scandalizing that this man is still not only our Archbishop, but how he’s even a bishop at all.

      From what I read, the responsibility also rests on the shoulders of the lay people and priests, right? However it seems harder nowadays to start a movement to analyze the opinions of a bishop, because people prefer to avoid conflict not to be titled schismatic.
      Maybe you could talk to your priest about it? Maybe he can contact other priests and bishops.
      It'll probably come to your mind an anxiety that you may be reprehended for judging the bishop. That's what I'm talking about when I say today it's kind of hard.
      However, church history is full of heretics who were only silenced when pious men stood up, seeing that being passive in this case isn't a virtue.

To call yourself a Christian is to take unto yourself His identity; His Name, and to accept that the world will judge God by your actions. To take His name and then drag it through the mud like this is the most egregious of all sins as it steers people away from His Kingdom. To accept the weight of that responsibility is terrifying, and should be approached with the utmost reverence and care. Lord have mercy on us sinners who sully your name with our sinful ways! Many have already spoken to their priests and it falls on deaf ears. They all appear to have the same excuse and answer, sort of like a prepared script. Apparently they can't do nothing about it since the fake Synod that is everything BUT "holy" these modern times hasn't done anything about it. And why should they? They themselves have also betrayed Jesus Christ in many ways (too many to list here). In 2016 they met in Crete and changed many things. A "holy synod" is no longer present. It has been replaced with impostors and freemasons who serve Satan. They have one goal and it has nothing to do with our salvation.

The problem is not the baptism itself of two children, but the fact that the parents are in a clear state of publicly declared sin. Baptism means that the children will be indoctrinated Christianly. But if that happens, they will sooner or later be informed that their parents are in sin as married homosexuals. What will happen then? Do their parents know this? Did Elpidophorus tell them? Where did he get permission to do what he did? We are all sinners, but gay marriage is a public declaration of sin. It's the same as an adulterer saying 'yes, I'm an adulterer, you all know it, I don't consider it a sin, it's okay, I want you to baptize my babies, which there's no way I'm going to have the catechized as Christians, because if I do, I'll have to tell them I'm an adulterer and there's a chance they'll reject me'.

      Infiltrating the Catholics was likely harder because they are all celibate, but with both once you infiltrate the top you can promote fellow corrupted intentionally, the Catholics are almost fully captured with the exception of the Latin mass one's, the orthodox are less far along but certainly endangered should they not mount the type of resistance that was necessary against the iconoclasts.

    His Eminence's reasoning, based on the Theotokos and the "autonomy of women," is a fallacious argument and evidence of a confused mindset. Mankind was made in the image of God. So, of course men and women all have free will. However, God respects our free choice to worship and serve him as our creator (just as the Theotokos did). Yet, mankind has been corrupted by sin and has perverted free choice. They have chosen to worship and serve the creation rather than the creator. From Adam onward, including Cain, the first to shed human blood, mankind has gone his own way. God does not respect such lawless autonomy. I feel your pain. I'm a Catholic but am a great lover of Orthodoxy. I honestly do think that some of the things Orthodox call heresy can be shown not to be heresy. St Maximus the confessor stated that the Holy Spirit is from the father and the son. So did Cyril of Alexandria. While I agree that the Western Church should probably not have added it to the Creed the way that it did, the way it is understood is not heretical. Purgatory was described perfectly by The Synod of Jerusalem in 1672. Furthermore the synod used the term transubstantiated In relation to the Eucharist. I think you will find over time that Catholics and Orthodox should be united in fighting these issues. We are suffering through Francis. You are suffering through this horrible bishop. There will be much more suffering. Please note that the Catholic Church has been at the forefront of condemning abortion. Despite Francis's flaws he has come out against transgenderism and while I disagree with Fiduci Supplicans I think the next pope will get rid of it. It is by no means required and the pope recently stated that if bishops are against it that is fine. Catholic and Orthodox should look for reasons to come together to fight these horrible ideas. I think one of the reasons that things like this are happening including the schism in the Orthodox Church now is because the church was meant to be together, East and West. If a person loses a leg they may be able to walk with a prosthesis but they will always limp. I believe it is telling that the patriarch has not rebuffed him or removed him. The cancer is spreading and we must together fight it. God bless.

      Thank you for your sincerity. While we certainly do not judge any individuals, the fact is that the testimony of the Saints of the last 1000 years is unanimous: Roman Catholicism is a heretical body and those in it have been cut out of Christ's Body. It doesn't matter what you or I think, or what practical social aims we might attain in the world. The truth is that Roman Catholicism is a false religion. This is the testimony of our Saints of the last 1000 years. We even have canonized Saints who are martyrs because they refused to convert to Roman Catholicism. I understand you do not agree with this perspective, but this is the perspective of the Orthodox Church for the last 1000 years. All of the Saints of the Orthodox Church cannot all be wrong and yet somehow still be Saints. If Roman Catholicism were part of the Church, then to deny this would be to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. You cannot be a Saint and commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, it's not possible. I am not judging your intentions, but it doesn't really make sense to on the one hand say you respect Orthodoxy but then disagree with all of the Saints of the last 1000 years, and to believe they committed blasphemy when they say that Roman Catholics are graceless and heretics. We have martyrs who were tortured and died in order not to convert to Roman Catholicism. Either these Saints were all wrong and deluded, or Roman Catholicism is a false religion. You can't have it both ways. I say this meaning no ill will towards any Roman Catholic, the most loving thing I can do is to speak the truth.

      @frankrosenbloom 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GentleBreeze1234 you may wish to believe that it is as cut and dry as you proclaim. Yet a review of history will show this is simply not true. In the attempts at reuniting the church, more Bishops from the Eastern churches were in favor of it then were not in favor. There was a great deal of interplay during the time of Cyril Lucaris with the Catholic Church assisting the Orthodox suppressing that heresy and avoiding a turn of the Orthodox Church to Protestanism.
      In my search for truth 45 years ago I came down to Catholicism and orthodoxy. I found so many things that were truly almost identical between the two and yet the Orthodox, for slight differences in expression labeled everything as heresy. Catholicism on the other hand maintains that there is Grace in the Orthodox church and the Orthodox churches are our brethren. After thorough review of history that took me 4 years I could not abide the Orthodox opinion that the Catholic Church was devoid of Grace. Especially with how the separation played out over 100s of years with the East accepting the West and the West accepting the East with intermittent problems understanding simply a cultural difference in expression.
      I would be happy to discuss with you or debate with you regarding those things in the Catholic Church that you believe are heretical. I would be able to counter those arguments with proof of writings from the Orthodox church that maintain an identical or nearly identical understanding. It is precisely this petulant behavior that turned me off from Orthodox he in the beginning. It is very interesting given Orthodoxy's close relationship with the very definitely heretical Anglican church over the years The Orthodox also have full membership in the world Council of churches and Catholic refusal to become a full member in the world Council of churches. During World Counsel of churches meetings Orthodox offer general prayers along with other denomination's. In my opinion in such an interconnected world as long as this is not done within the liturgy or formal prayer seeming to accept the opinions of other denominations I would not disagree with this. Yet I believe the Orthodox Cannon law actually prohibits this.
      Even when it came to Palamism, while criticizing roams scholastic approach to approving points Gregory of thalamus used those very scholastic arguments to prove his belief in the separation of essence and energies in the Trinity to support Hesychasm. There was a lot of difficulty during that time and the Orthodox priest who argued against Gregory of Palamas ended up defecting into the Roman church as well as some other Orthodox priests. It was initially condemned by the Orthodox, and then approved. Palamism was never accepted in the West. It was a new development. However, the Roman church did not condemn it. The Roman Church did not label it as a heresy.
      If we do discuss this matter and you convince me of the truth of your arguments I will become Orthodox. If I happen to in some ways win the argument or debate I would not expect you to become a Catholic but just except the fact that the same thing can be understood in more than one way.
      I am saddened by your response but of course I respect your views.

      @@frankrosenbloom I can summarize your response very simply: "I think, I think, I think, I think". I'm not trying to be rude, but who cares what you think? Who cares what I think? Our opinions don't matter. Your response here does not in any way address the issue that the unanimous witness of the Saints of the Orthodox Church is that Roman Catholics are heretics and are cut off from the Body of Christ. I would recommend buying the book "The Orthodox Patristic Witness Concerning Catholicism" from Uncut Mountain Press. I understand you don't believe that these various theological differences are a problem, you can have that opinion. But your opinion is rejected and condemned by all of the Orthodox Saints who spoke about these matters. The Saints say that the Roman Catholic Church is a graceless heretical body, if they are wrong, then they are blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, and therefor can't be Saints. You simply can't have it both ways. It doesn't matter what I think, what you think, what this or that modern-day theologian or Bishop thinks. All that matters is what the Saints think.

    • @frankrosenbloom
      @frankrosenbloom 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GentleBreeze1234 And I can summarize yours as denial, denial, denial. When your own Patriarch of Constantinople said the issues that caused the schism no longrer apply yet the Orthodox remail intransigent, it is very sad.
      Have you ever read the Orthodox Saints who thought it was required to follow the Roman church? St. Maximus the Confessor, when commenting on the manner in which Pyrrhus, a former Bishop of Constantinople and heretic, should return to the unity of the Church, said this about him: "Let him [Pyrrhus] hasten before all else to to satisfy the Roman See, for if it is satisfied all will agree in calling him pious and orthodox…, That Apostolic See which has received universal and supreme dominion, authority, and power of binding and loosing over all the holy churches of God throughout the world, from the incarnate Son of God Himself and also by all holy councils” (Migne PG 91:114; taken from Eastern Orthodoxy’s Witness. Happily, seemingly in answer to your concerns about his titles Pope Francis has reacquired the title Patriarch of the West. To be honest, it's one of the few things Francis has done with which I agree.
      There is plenty of liberalism and heresy creeping into Eastern Orthodoxy. As you point out, Archbishop Elpidophoros in July 2022 in Greece baptised the child of a gay couple, the famous designer Peter Bousis and his Greek-American partner Evangelo Bousis. The child was born through surrogacy. Pope Francis came out against surrogacy and against the trans culture recently, and no Catholic bishop to my knowledge has authorized such acts. Following that there was indecisiveness on the part of the Orthodox churches. In a response to an Orthodox Archbishop stating the unacceptability of such actions, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia stated: "The proposal of Abp. Ieronymos of Athens regarding the non-Baptism of infants adopted by same-sex couples is his personal opinion, which does not reflect the position of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece."
      But where are the Orthodox now? There is a schism between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. You have no head. Therefore you have no church, you have churches. There is not an organization that has ever been conceived that does not have a head. While Christ is the head of the church he established a temporal head of the church for the purpose of preventing such problems. There is no power within the temporal church in Orthodoxy to call a council, to resolve the dispute between the ecumenical patriarch and the Russian Orthodox Patriarch, and it seems to be more like fighting children than a church. Yes we do have problems in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis is not my favorite pope, I will tell you that. I do agree that there have been a lot of abuses in the church since Vatican II, not as a result directly of Vatican II, but mainly because of the social context in the West in which it occurred. But The Pope has the power to put the German bishops in their place and to keep the church united in a much more effective manner than the Orthodox Church has been able to. The much anticipated Pan- Orthodox Council of 2016 amounted to a lot of infighting and disagreement and really resulted in nothing, except for some Orthodox claiming that the ecumenical patriarch was trying to act like a pope. Furthermore the Russian Orthodox Patriarch has declared the Russian attack on Ukraine as a holy war. He has claimed sole jurisdiction in Ukraine. I don't see anything like this happening in the Catholic Church.
      The Orthodox Church or churches accepted the Filioque for use by the Western Church, as a response to heresy denying the divinity of the Holy Spirit in the seventh and eighth centuries. Sometimes it was an issue, sometimes it wasn't. Yet, one cannot read the farewell dialogs in John 15 and 16 without recognizing that it is a valid understanding, especially when the Catholic Church has acknowledged that the source of the Holy Spirit is the Father and procession, when it comes to Christ, does not mean as the source, but it would accept the understanding of proceeds through the Son. When Jesus breathed on the disciples and said, “receive the Holy Spirit" seems like a slam dunk to me. Now could it have been handled differently? Yes, that's a different argument. In fact, at the time of the schism in 1054 no one on either side thought it would be permanent. There was great cooperation during the initial crusades and the continued schism was political more than religious. Attempts at reunification happened and even when agreed to by the bishops of the entire eastern church ended up being negated by one Eastern bishop. If the pope had done that you would claim invalid primacy, yet if a single bishop does that in the east it's okay?
      Similarly, the Orthodox constantly claim heresy when the Western Church defines anything. Purgatory is a heresy. Yet the Orthodox Church maintains that there is a place or state of purification where the soul will benefit from prayer. Original sin the way Catholics explain it is heresy to them. The Orthodox maintain that original sin brought death and separated man from God. Catholics of course would not disagree. Simply a different understanding based upon culture but with the same result. Now, if the Catholic Church had stated that Jesus was the source of the Trinity or abrogated the order of the Trinity, that would be a different story. If the Catholic Church denied the divinity of any members of the Holy Trinity, denied baptism, denied holy orders, denied the requirement of faith and works for Salvation, or denied any number of dogmatic principles that are agreed upon by the East and the West then I would understand. The Orthodox will resort to “it's a mystery” When they want to refute a Catholic definition.
      But the Orthodox argue about terminology, or the attempt to use a word to define something. For instance, the Orthodox believe that the bread and wine are transformed into the body and blood of Jesus. The Catholics believe the same. Yet, add the word transubstantiation and the Orthodox cry heresy. It is simply a word that the West used to define a transformation that was taking place. Such is the difference I guess between the East and the West culturally. But it is not a cause for schism. Especially not when considered in the light of the paragraphs below.
      I would like to reference the Jerusalem Synod of the Orthodox Church of 1672. The beliefs as stated are identical to those of the Catholic Church. In terms of the Eucharist: "Further, that in every part, or the smallest division of the transmuted bread and wine there is not a part of the Body and Blood of the Lord - for to say so were blasphemous and wicked - but the entire whole Lord Christ substantially, that is, with His Soul and Divinity, or perfect God and perfect man. This is just an example., transmuted, not transubstantiated, so one is okay and the other is Heresy. But wait, it gets better. A little later in the paragraph it reads: "the bread of the Prothesis* set forth in all the several Churches, being changed and transubstantiated, becomes, and is, after consecration, one and the same with That in the Heavens." Oh my goodness, the word transubstantiated. The difference in the word is only a difference in the tense. So how is it now a heresy if the Orthodox church never changes its teaching?

    2:00 not only was his statement in contrast to Jesus’ declaration that He is the ONLY way, it is giving a blessing to idolatry and worship of the demonic beings, which is forbidden over and over in both the Old and New Testament. My children are smart enough to recognize this, there is no debate about whether this is heretical and blasphemous of not. Lord have mercy!

    Corrupt people have always risen to the top at various times, especially in the Roman Church but there's no reason why Orthodoxy should be immune. The world is at a constant state of war and in each person is a battleground. First cleanse yourself of sin, then see how you might be able to help someone else. I'm Greek Orthodox and while I am sorry for the Archbishop and commiserate with American members of the Church, I also believe that we must all, first and foremost, conduct the most intense spiritual warfare ourselves and let the world be to the greatest extent possible. The state of the Church is a reflection of the state of the laity. I spend time in both America and Greece regularly and can honestly say that both countries are plagued by the same afflictions to nearly the same degree. It's no surprise that the Church is degenerating.

Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

      There are many wonderful clergy and laypeople in the Greek Archdiocese who do not agree with their Archbishop. The bishop is not the Church. Certainly, if the local Greek community is of the same mind as him then this is a reason to leave, but don't leave just because of him if you do have a good local community.

But you're right, there are many amazing people that I love to be around, its just disturbing to see so much support for him. The clergy at my church are wonderful and very nice. I'ts just hard to be part of a parish with such different stances and ideas on everything, especially when some of these ideas are open heresy.

    We must remember that the Head of the Church is Jesus Christ not Elpidoforos or any other bishop. He and His Holy Spirit guide and move the ship of the church. It is not up to us to judge. We must trust in our Lord Christ, the church has been around for two thousand years, and has faced a number of challenges and it is still here and a lot stronger. So Trust in the Lord and His Holy Spirit and do not pass judgement. If this is not for Christ it will not stand in His church.
