Awesome food for thought, Big T! Another WIP for me knowing when and where to back off .... 🤠

Hi Tony. Another awesome video! Even with Jill's athetic ability, I think we can see that when she moved back she didn't have time to get stopped, low and split step with weight forward before the ball arrived, while the pros in that other clip did. I think that especially for the super senior age group like me, we have to assess whether we have time to step back and how far and still be able to get set before that ball arrives! If not, we just have to prepare for the attack!
You probably address in another video the issue of trying to win a firefight from off the line. That is another negative and one that I think has some people getting confused and being told that backing off is bad. But as you show, backing off for defence is good but then trying to win a firefight from back there is normally bad.

Nice job with this video. Where you stand and how you move up and back is based on a number of factors that you almost have to feel. How often and how good are your opponents attacks? How good are your hands? Are you steadier than your opponents? More powerful?

Appreciate it. Great observations about the differences in ability.

The really weird thing is, in open play, when facing 3.25s and below, their ball strikes can be so erratic, it's often hard to pounce on these errors, because you have limited scope to predict the popcorn vector of all the balls coming at you.
I actually take a step back against weak opponents for precisely this reason. It's _way_ easier to react to seventeen different flavours of mis-hit from one step further back.

Sounds like a good approach. Appreciate the comment.

I like to stay at the line when my opponent is given an opportunity to speed up a dink because I feel like I have the ability to counterattack. What do you think of this?

Hello SuperDude. This works as long as you have the reflexes for it. There are players who are very successful holding their ground and picking off the attacks coming their way.
