My favorite hive tool can be found here: tinyurl.com/3htwrdf6
Was.... your favorite hive tool! 🤣
What about the flat j hook tools with the red paint? I saw one hanging out in your pocket. Edit: That might not be a hive tool.
A good hive tool should be magnetic which means that has chrome in the mixture and that makes it difficult to bend.. but l don't know.. l study that stuff a long time ago. These days they can mix all kinds of metals
@@mikes6884 it was a hive tool. I cut myself in 2 places when I broke my favorite hive tool so we thought we would call it for the day when Laurel saw I need bandages lol
@@kamonreynolds and yes, if you're strong enough you'll break even the magnetic ones that don't want to bend. It will break like glass. No joke, Kamon you are strong.
As much I like your video but I love laurel giggles 🤭
Look at Kamon snapping steel like twigs. He probably welded it back together off camera with his laser vision.
Lol.
😂my morning is complete after watching Kamon bend hives tools 😊
People are saying we should have a hive tool bending competition at the bee expo 😂. I think we better not
Never underestimate the power of a beekeepers hands 😂
The lighter side of beekeeping 👍👍
Can you put a link for some of the cheap hive tools? Some of the rest of us need to impress our wives too! 😅
Called cheap steel.
🤔You can tell that Kamon is still on the younger guy side,😁any guy with 50 year old knees isn't gona do that.😂Blessed Days you two.👍
Thanks DC we appreciate you hopping in!
Heat treating after bending. Many manufacturers don't bother to take the extra step.
A good blacksmith could fix that for you.😎
Laurel must be worth it lol...
100% got to prove my worth!
Laurel get the poor boy another hive tool!
YES!
Good thing amazon has free returns. I can bend or break every one of them.Really though I have tools over 20 years old and some people break em the first time they use them
They haven’t gone through a hardening process
Kamon Raymond hive tool is still in the pipeline. Hopefully soon we can get you a sample.
I never realized the difference until I ordered more of my favorite one. They were very sharp and didn't feel at all the same. My favorite one is a genuine Maxant hive tool, it's unfortunate they don't make them anymore.
To bad they don't make them. I love the couple USA tools I have. I don't think I could break those.
Oh Man , you really shocked me that you was able to break the good one. Super powers.
I was shocked too! I really wanted to bend it though. I also didn't want anyone to think I wasn't torquing down on it the same as the other two but I went a little to far!
Great comparison, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Well, there are two major types of stainless 300 series is soft, 400 grade is high tempered and very, very strong. Probably using the 300 series as it is cheaper and easier to tool. Both can be sold as "Stainless Steel"
I have never found a 300 series hive tool. Stick a magnet to it if it sticks it's not 300. 300 is used in kitchens and hospitals more often in sheets. 400 series is tool steel much more common for this application.
OK, I make my own from steel.
Oh man, when Larry sees this he’s going to try to keep up with you. Got the doc on speed dial…
Uh oh! Tell him he better behave himself for once! And to start acting his age and not his shoe size!
😂😂😂❤
Interest that broke in half , when you get a new one can you warm it up slightly and try it again lol just for science
Why warm it up?
@@kamonreynolds as apparently if it’s slightly warmer it won’t be as brittle and maybe bend slightly more and bend back without snapping , , i only read google lol i am clueless and couldn’t even bend one haha , obviously room temp warm not hot so it bends easy 😂🇬🇧
I just leave mine out in the rain to tell if it’s SS…
I too test my hive tools this way. Sometimes for multiple years. Yes that is what I am doing, they aren't lost testing...
Naw! Those are great hive tools! You're just too strong!! 😜🤣
I wish!
@@kamonreynolds 😂
Lol 😅
You’ve been body building.
Kamon, I think you’ve been eating your spinach and cheerios!
Yes I do!
You may have to upgrade to a nail bar.
Super K!
Where is your shirt from???
The Summers Family
Kamon, where'd you get that T shirt?
Natalee Summer and Dawn Summer made one for me and Randy McCaffery!
@@kamonreynolds Sweet! In more ways than one.
Does 2:1 mean sugar to water for feeding?
How to eliminate lime disease chalk disease in bees I am waiting for your suggestions on this topic thank you
Genetics is the long term solution. Thymol is the best treatment I know of. Apiguard, Hive Alive, Api Life Var and other products have thymol in them. Some people make their own thymol treatment but I have never tried this.
Ok Kamon, admit it, you were looking for a reason to flex
I can't help it Hank! Honestly I was blown away by the low quality of these tools and then thought hmmmm where is my 2:1 shirt?
Hello, beekeeper friend, I've been asking you a question about lime disease in bees for a few days, why are you not answering somehow
One tick spreads Lymes into other organisms. They have found it other sucking insects but not proven transmission. Bees don’t suck!! lol
What about your knee?😅
;)
badass tool breaker
Wouldn't cost that much have bunch of those cut on CNC machine... Not that hard to heat treat drop it in oil ... wouldn't want really hot heat treat so they don't snap .. that's why yours snapped heat treat was to hot ... Cheap ones just junk steel
It's about 40 bucks a piece to machine them out of 420 stainless. You don't dip most tool steel in oil FYI just air cool. Most of the hive tools on Amazon are made in China and they are very inconsistent in the makeup of the steel as well as heat treatment. I gave a local bee store a price to make some properly out of quality steel and it would be about 30 to 40 dollars each depending on the design I put on the handle. These were custom and very nice but people just won't pay for quality in the real world. I put my hive tool on a rack for 50 bucks next to a Chinese tool for 15 most people will buy the 15 dollar tool. It's not worth my time to make them if no ones buying them.
Really?
Really!
