Thank you again for your expertise in explaining the music. Tim always shakes his head at how popular this song is. I see you know the story,so even drunk, his musical genius comes out. And to think we almost never got to experience his talent. He was going to be a dentist. In between music gigs,he was a substitute math teacher for elementary students. The youtube video for Hers Ain't Mine is just a still picture. You'd have to watch youtube shorts or Austin's tiktok channel to see actual videos -- that's videos, plural, many scenarios.
So glad you enjoyed this one. If I remember correctly, the producers of the Sing Off decided to tout them as an capella country band. As it turned out, it was a brilliant choice. HF has covered many many country songs and their versions are usually better than the originals. I strongly suggest "Hillbilly Bone". It's so fun! Thanks for another super reaction.

My guess they also filmed Ring of Fire at the same time with Avi. It was about the same time, when Avi was beginning to break off was Pentatonix. The company, (see The Hound + Fox couple) who usually does Home Free videos is located in the Northwest US near where Avi is from in Northern California.
🔥🔥 .. thank you Sir Hairless for getting me to laugh today. I needed a good laugh. I am so, so glad that you are a traveler on the Home Free train. I will be with you along the way. The Home Free gents are my favorite acupella group. I am forever impressed with their talents , their voices , their whistling , and of course their humor. Just amazing talents and you have a way of noticing some things that I miss. I really can not tell you how happy I am that you like this song , and video. Please keep these reactions from Home Free coming , as there are many. All of us Home Fries are anxiously awaiting your reaction to "Man Of Constant Sorrow". TY ......... Mr. Longhair
I loved your reaction to this performance, and sincerely hope you react to more of this amazing group's, "GOOD FILTH," to quote a very talented musical reactor! I look forward to your future Home Free reactions!
Great! This before Chris Rupp (founder) left the group and brought Adam Chance in to replace him. Chance is wonderful in his own right as well - would love to see you react to Chance's "Wayfaring Stranger" done together with "The Hound and the Fox", a wonderful couple who work frequently with these guys.
Yes! I agree! Chance also has his own TH-cam Channel with one original (for now) and a few covers. He is working on a solo album. Would love to see you react to the one suggested and anything on his channel.
They do actually use multitracking and have explained that at their live shows, which I have been so very fortunate to attend. Tim will explain how they do it to cover the parts, while someone will sing said part, like Rob on Man of Constant Sorrow, while Adam Rupp will be in the back on a sound board recording it, and then they may record some sort of sound effect, or another voice and add it to the song before they sing it. It’s really cool and fun to see the process they use. I’m very much looking forward to you getting into more of their originals. They are truly gifted artists. Also, I would love to watch b you react to Austin singing “Bring Him Home” from Le Mis. It literally gave me chills just typing it.
I’ve even seen an interview with Chris Rupp, where he talks about them doing multi tracking. He’s now been working on the engineering of the recordings since he stopped singing with the group. He talked about how all a cappella groups do this whether they’re doing more than the number of parts than there are members or if they’re multi-tracking a single part where the member sings it several times, and they layer them on top of one another to give it a fuller sound. There’s nothing wrong or dishonest about it so I’m not sure why people get so wound up when people say that. These groups are making popular music and they’re making the best popular music they can without instruments. The fact that they use multitracking during recording to achieve this makes them smart and in no way detracts from their talent.
@@pjschmid2251 precisely. I mean… they are STILL the ones singing it, after all. It’s not like they’re laying in actual instruments besides their own voices to add to the effect. I agree… it’s very clever. And, to be fair… they sound very much the same live as they do recorded. That takes TALENT. Not… auto-tune… like some artists use live. 😂
I love this song and I really wish it was longer. I busted a gut when Avi came in and was holding a champagne glass and Tim sees it and follows him with his eyes. 👀 just many little moments in this song and can you see Avi riding a bull. Lmao 🤣. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. ❤. 😂
@@pjschmid2251 It's humorous to me that people get upset about multitracking. Brian May mentioned that during Queen's recording of Bohemian Rhapsody, Freddie Mercury recorded the same part so many times that he was wearing out the tape. I believe Michael Jackson was a master of layering and multitracking as well. It's not a new phenomena from the digital copy / paste age.
Your expression when Avi did his cameo walk-through was priceless! And catching him in the background on the bull was pretty amazing as well, most people don't catch that on a first watch. I've heard (although I can't confirm it) that it was also Avi's hand that placed the champagne flute on the bar - might as well use him if you've got him! While I'm not as familiar with HF songs as most other commenters will be, I'd like to recommend another fun one - Brothers (NOTE: HF has also done a song called Brothers in Arms - that one's VERY serious, so please don't confuse the two). Many people have to watch/listen to the video at least twice, the visuals are so distracting it's easy to forget about the music; I have to close my eyes to listen to the music, otherwise I get completely distracted!
Avi was in town to do the Ring of Fire video with Home Free. They invited him to do a cameo. The fact that so many people stop the video to double check that its him is a testament of how many people love Avi.
When they filmed this video in a local bar in Minneapolis, they invited the "Home fries" to join them as extra's. So most in the background are fans. That is not Avi on the bull, though many think it is, It was Nate, their merchant man at the time. A great follow up to this one would be Ring of Fire, starring Avi.
If I'm not mistaken, that was filmed the day after Avi was featured in the Home Free cover of Ring of fire ( th-cam.com/video/0l3dsHCScxU/w-d-xo.html ). Avi was around when Home Free was filming this video, he was asked to put on a little cameo, and he simply said yes ( that was explained in the Home Free History series th-cam.com/play/PLqceSrBDzQAkWd_fr7HkveTzyUQjvvMUp.html ) but can't remenber the episode 🙏
@@SirHairless As far as i can remember, there are. 🤷♂ Every episode dives into the memories of some of the HF components ( both former and current ). I don't have the feeling of watching at many clips, but there were some. I think i remember more times with background music from their past works than visual clips, but there certainly were clips. As en example, the explanations of that Ring of fire + cameo certainly came with some images of both performances if I'm not wrong, with hilarious explanations of how they did the aerial-ish takes back in 2014. So, IMHO, if you plan to keep diving into HF performances, I think will be better to postpone warching the HF history series. HTH. Congrats for your work. 👍
Apparently, his video was done after the Ring of Fire with Avi video, so since Avi was still around during this filming they invited him to do a walk-on.
Always eonjoy seeing your analyses, never saw anyone doing one for this song before. Just saw that you reorganized your playlists according to the different artists. It is very appreciated!
The first part of the video with the four in a boat is referring to the saying "up a creek without a paddle", which is another way to say someone is in big trouble. Avi photobombed them. And yes, they are good friends. They help each other out with song arrangements and also will sing together.
Fabulous HF reaction, as usual, Sir! Hope you will check out the song they did for Ubisoft's upcoming game, "Skull and Bones"! Would love to see you react to both the live version at the game premiere, as well as the studio version in the same video to hear your thoughts! xx PS: it's a Chance original!
Cheers! 'Skull and Bones' is on my list! Along with many other HF recommendations 😅 So we'll get round to it eventually - just not sure about the order yet! I'll make a note that there are two version though, thanks
The guys were filming Ring of Fire with Avi the night before, and since he was still in town, he made an appearance in the video. If you look closely, it's Avi placing the champagne while Tim knocks it over with a beer. It's a play on Pentatonix being the champagne types while Home Free is into beer.
Rob is the whistler, He has a perfect whistle, not many can do that. Avi and Tim are bass friends. Avi was in the video Ring Of Fire with them(He sang)and this was done around the same time as that video so Avi made his cameo in this.
Aloha! This was the very first video I saw of Home Free (thanks to Avi's cameo).😁 You really get to see their sense of humor (& not taking themselves too seriously). Been a Home Fry ever since 🤙🤙
Oh, this is a classic Home Free original. He wrote a couple prior to joining Home Free and there are about three on their post Sing Off album (Crazy Life). Chance and Austin also have their own TH-cam channels with their solo work.

We can answer all your Avi and Home Free questions in one video 😆 check this out: th-cam.com/video/0l3dsHCScxU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=t51aZioNNYL1TLh1 and their whistling's got nothing on the harmanica, I mean a man that's a harmonica, best one for that is my personal favorite from Home Free, Man of Constant Sorrow
I hope you’ll react to some more Home Free originals. So many originals to choose from! . . . So Long Dixie (includes guitar), Dreamer, Stargazer Lilies, Give Me Sign, MR, Dive Bar Saints, and many others.
Tim, Chance & Austin are each song writers and have originals on their own channels & with Home Free. The ones with Home Free include Tim's "Remember This" & "May As Well Be Me"; Chance's "Skull & Bones"''; Austin's "Love Me Like That", "Remember My Name" & "Playing with Fire". There are lots of others, these are just a sample. Love your channel & analyses!
It is an open secret that Darren used Tim for the bass on recordings when he was also doing lead/harmony because Chris's bass was not strong enough for a recording, but in the live shows, Chris covered it. If you want a trifecta of whistling - watch HF's Quarantine. An original parody that Tim wrote. Mozart's maid used a similar technique to what worked with my college roommate - just leave off the last note of a piece she knew well.
Not trying to nit pick, but Tim used the Billy Joel song “Honesty” and changed the lyrics. The HF rendition is fantastic- just want to give credit where it’s due.
Your honest reactions and being so real is refreshing. Some of the details you pick up on and your true love of music keeps me interested. Keep doing what you do it is much appreciated
Yeah this is so funny. Tim wrote this after his boss insisted he write a country song. He was in LA at the time and didn’t want to write a country song. So he went home and got drunk and wrote this in one night. It’s been his biggest hit. I love the lyrics, “I won’t see her pretty face at all since the prison’s no where near the mall”. Hahaha. Avi had just done Ring of Fire with Home Free and they were going to film this the next day so he stayed and got a walk on part in this. I am embarrassed to say that I can burp at will two different ways. It’s because of being the only girl in a family of boys and my brothers love it as they can’t do it. Talent! 🤣🥰 Good one SH! Lots of originals by Home Free. Three of my favorites are Give Me a Sign by Austin and Understand by Tim and of course Skull and Bones by Chance. 😍
So the moral of the story is....get drunk and do things you don't want to do for the best outcome? Sounds fun 😅 Thanks for the info! Don't apologise for the skill of being able to burp at will in two different ways - I wish I could!
Great reaction and analysis as always. You mentioned how cool it was that they did the start of the song in one long take. Well read this it from there page. We decided to mash-up Ed Sheeran with Marvin Gaye into one awesome, crazy one take video! Enjoy "Thinking Out Loud / Let's Get It On!" It is so good, hope you react to it
Another suggestion, the Bass Gang is another a cappella band that might interest you. Their rendition of “Centuries “ is exemplary! They also do a collaboration with Tim Foust!
Yes and Tim has a cameo in The Bass Gang's We Don't Talk About Bruno. And some of TBG members have done some of Avi's songs...Peter did Otherside, Marwan did Get Down, Peter and Bobby did The Summit, and Tomi did an entire Avi Kaplan medley...Tim makes a brief appearance in the outro of that medley.
I won't see her face cause the prison's nowhere near a mall... as in she would only come to visit him if it was on her way to the mall. 😂 Cracks me up every time.
You brought a big smile to my face with this super fun reaction😄And Avi did surprise us with his unexpected appearance at the Home Free's rendezvous; awesome!✌
I believe Avi and Tim are friends. But This video was filmed while Avi was in town for the Ring of Fire video where he sang with Home Free, and was invited to be on set for this video as well.
This is so much fun. Tim tells the story that he wrote it under protest after drinking way too much whiskey because his boss at the time wanted him to write a country song. Loved the Mozart story - even if it isn't true.
Now that you have found Home Free my #2 acapella group. You must check out their good friends from The Sing-Off VoicePlay #TheatreKidsOfACapella. They are #1 on my list. I love watching people's reaction to Avi's cameo. I found out this was filmed less than an hour from me, I think it was Maplewood, MN?? Not a Home Free fan but this song is fun.
@nanadeborah8717 The bar wasn't at the mall though, according to someone from the comments I read somewhere it was more like Maplewood. I know they are MN based, I don't understand why they sound so "country".
@@stephanie3230 I didn't say the bar was at MOA. I said the bags that Tim unloaded from the trunk had the mall logo. And if I remember from a behind the scenes, the bar is actually in Elko. They have filmed several videos there.

As for why Avi was in the video, it all started when they were filming the video for Ring of Fire at their producers farm/ranch with Avi as a guest artist. The following day they were set to film 2 videos at a local bar near the farm for this song and "Honey Im Good" so Avi stuck around and went with them. And to think we almost never got to experience his talent. He was going to be a dentist. In between music gigs,he was a substitute math teacher for elementary students. All of Home Free are college grads, including Chance who replaced Chris. Talented and intellgent men.
If you liked this song, you should check out Austin's "what's hers ain't mine"! 😂
Oo that one's not been recommended to me yet! I'll add it to my list
@@SirHairless yes "Hillbilly Bone" is another fun one ! You will really enjoy it !
@@SirHairless Thanks
Oh, this definitely Tim’s sense of humor….he’s quite the character….&, a great comedian 🙃🤪😋🤪🙃‼️ He’s their spokesman during the concerts…he’s a real Hoot…what a Fun guy 🙃🤪🔥‼️
Rob is the Awesome whistler…oh, Yeah, he’s Good 🙃‼️🙃💗🔥
Story Time With Tim. OMG - Count the Bacons, Barnacles, Whip/Nae Nae, Angler Fish. The guy is so funny!
I believe Avi was there after filming Ring of Fire - so photo bombing their video was fun.
Yes he was there for ring of fire and stuck around and did the cameo.
We love some good filth
😂❤ as someone is strictly as flat as a pancake when whistling, I'm so envious of Rob!
❤🤠#HomeFree. Fun reaction. Tim's humor is wonderful ❤🏠🍟
This is so funny. Home Free can do funny, sad and beautiful. They are so extremely talented. Love your reaction!♥
🙌
I think this video and Ring of Fire (featuring Avi) were filmed on the same day. Hence, Avi was around for a fun cameo.
I love Chance’s lead in I Can’t Outrun You too! ❤
Chris didn't bring Adam Chance in, and he's made that clear in interviews. Adam was an old friend of Jenika, Tim's wife.
So, I stand corrected! No harm, no foul!
I finally found this song and I love this song. Tim is a great storyteller. The harmonies are great. 😅😅😅
I love your musical theory - I might have paid attention when I took music if it had been presented this well!!
Thanks for the heads-up!
Lol never expected you to ract to this. Such a fun song
I love this song
One of the best #homefree originals is Catch Me If You Can.
100% agree!
Will watching the history series give away spoilers?? I'm interested to watch, but don't want to hear a lot of songs I've not discovered yet
@@SirHairless As far as i can remember, there are. 🤷♂
Every episode dives into the memories of some of the HF components ( both former and current ).
I just love your reactions.
You might like the Austin written song and video more recently released called, Playing With Fire.
I've never heard of that saying so that joke was (unfortunately) lost on me Thanks for explaining!
I’m glad you appreciate their humor. I feel that they are so well loved by all types of people is because of their repertoire of different genres.
Fabulous HF reaction, as usual, Sir!
Hope you will check out the song they did for Ubisoft's upcoming game, "Skull and Bones"! Would love to see you react to both the live version at the game premiere, as well as the studio version in the same video to hear your thoughts! xx
PS: it's a Chance original!
Cheers! 'Skull and Bones' is on my list! Along with many other HF recommendations 😅 So we'll get round to it eventually - just not sure about the order yet! I'll make a note that there are two version though, thanks
@@SirHairless OMG yaaayyyy!!! Sooo excited!!!
The guys were filming Ring of Fire with Avi the night before, and since he was still in town, he made an appearance in the video. If you look closely, it's Avi placing the champagne while Tim knocks it over with a beer. It's a play on Pentatonix being the champagne types while Home Free is into beer.
Chris said that sometimes for recording Tim would do the base that Chris would do live
Thanks for confirming - it makes sense to do it this way!
Rob is the whistler, He has a perfect whistle, not many can do that. Avi and Tim are bass friends. Avi was in the video Ring Of Fire with them(He sang)and this was done around the same time as that video so Avi made his cameo in this.
Still laughing from yesterday when Avi popped up. Your reaction was priceless. I so enjoy you and your channel and your music expertise.❤
Thanks so much!
The acapella Home Freee, Voice Play and Penatonix groups are friends and will guess star together.
Love your comments
Thanks!

and their whistling's got nothing on the harmanica, I mean a man that's a harmonica, best one for that is my personal favorite from Home Free, Man of Constant Sorrow
I'm excited to get round to that one! My first HF reaction was their Sing Off performance of Ring of Fire so I guess I'm already halfway there?...
I would suggest Ain't Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up as a great one for harmonica.
I hope you’ll react to some more Home Free originals. So many originals to choose from! . . . So Long Dixie (includes guitar), Dreamer, Stargazer Lilies, Give Me Sign, MR, Dive Bar Saints, and many others.
Dreamer and not the version with Texas Hill but the one with just Home Free. I love that song so much
Tim, Chance & Austin are each song writers and have originals on their own channels & with Home Free.
Quarantine never comes up enough...
@@larryfisher7056 It's such a masterpiece, especially for their first lockdown one.
Not trying to nit pick, but Tim used the Billy Joel song “Honesty” and changed the lyrics. The HF rendition is fantastic- just want to give credit where it’s due.
@@robynmatheson7687 Thus the word "parody".
Your honest reactions and being so real is refreshing. Some of the details you pick up on and your true love of music keeps me interested. Keep doing what you do it is much appreciated
😂so loved your face all through this! If you want more silliness check out their Butt's Remix or Zombies vs Hillbillies
@@SirHairlessThanks!

Another totally different is a song Austin wrote and arranged Playing with Fire. great matching video. You will see their diversity
Another suggestion, the Bass Gang is another a cappella band that might interest you. Their rendition of “Centuries “ is exemplary! They also do a collaboration with Tim Foust!
Yes! Hooked On A Feeling! A must-watch!!
Tim could actually b a stand up comic! He's hilarious
His Storytimes with Tim have given me some fabulous ROFL moments
I think that Avi and the guys from Home Free get along very well.
Great reaction 🥰 one of my favorite Homefree songs is the Butts medley it’s so much fun 😊

I never noticed the burp before! Thanks for pointing that out. lol

Another Home Free original is Full of Cheer also written by Tim
Perfect reaction Sir, really enjoyable 🎉 thx 👌👌🤩🤩🍟🍟

😂😂 they're so silly. Love their originals ❤ nice analysis 😊
This is so much fun. Tim tells the story that he wrote it under protest after drinking way too much whiskey because his boss at the time wanted him to write a country song. Loved the Mozart story - even if it isn't true.

Love how these boys can be so funny. CK out Butts Medley and Hillbilly Bone both are so funny.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Brother is a cover, HF’s humor shines through! 😊
The song is gorgeous and the video is really epic!
Now that you have found Home Free my #2 acapella group. You must check out their good friends from The Sing-Off VoicePlay #TheatreKidsOfACapella. They are #1 on my list. I get my country with Home Free and VoicePlay is everything else from Metallica, Broadway to Disney. They are more theatrical and do it all themselves. Arrangements, production, filming, editing, lighting, costumes, sets, and props. Their bass Geoff Castellucci has his own channel and does LOW Bass covers and also did an arrangement of Elvira for Home Free to sing with the Oakridge Boys.
I was waiting with bated breath for you to see Avi! I won't address why he was there. I'm betting a whole bunch of others who have address that question. I was really happy to see that you had reacted to this. I look forward to some reactions to their album that has MORE ORIGINALS in it: TIMELESS (the whole album is in one of their playlists). I would link to it, but usually that makes my comments disappear these days (sigh).

Glad you enjoyed! Thanks
Avi is friendly with Home Free, especially Tim Foust as they are AS YOU SAY = Basso Perfundo !
Suggest basso profundo as the spelling
I love watching people's reaction to Avi's cameo. I found out this was filmed less than an hour from me, I think it was Maplewood, MN?? Not a Home Free fan but this song is fun.
The bags are from the Mall of America in Bloomington. I live near St. Paul. Minnesota is home base for Home Free.
@nanadeborah8717 okay, sorry for misunderstanding. That name doesn't sound familiar, I'll have to see how far away it is from me.
@@stephanie3230 In order to have a better chance at getting accepted to perform on The Sing Off TV show back in 2013 they were told to say they were country because no one had ever done country acapella before. They did go with the country genre but that was never their original intent.
I was surprised to see you reacting to this fun song. I thoroughly enjoyed your comments of note!
Fabulous reaction, Sir! I absolutely loved the surprise and delight on your face whilst you were listening to it, and thanks as always for the informative musical analysis, which explains so well why I love the song so much.

As for why Avi was in the video, it all started when they were filming the video for Ring of Fire at their producers farm/ranch with Avi as a guest artist. The following day they were set to film 2 videos at a local bar near the farm for this song and "Honey Im Good" so Avi stuck around and went with them. Chris Rupp came up with the idea for the cameo in this video and hes also in the other video as a background extra but you really have to look hard to see him.
