  • For 2024, BMW is giving its customers a “more affordable” electrified 7 Series - the i7 eDrive50. It is brand new for 2024, as is a 650hp M70 that rockets to 60mph in just about 3.5 seconds. The pair of i7’s join the i7 eDrive60 that debuted last year, and stood alone until these new Bimmers hit the market. The eDrive50 is RWD, with one motor mounted at the rear axle. It’s a massive car, with quirky yet refined styling and is as agile a car that we have ever driven. It’s composed at high speeds, and is PACKED with tons of tech and gadgets that are overwhelming at first but deliver an unbeatable package of luxury, premium and upscale amenities. The eDrive50 has 449hp with a range anywhere from 301 to 321 miles on a full charge, depending on the wheels. Slow AC charging and fast DC charging are both possible, with a full charge on a 220V outlet taking about 11 hours - while BMW says owners can add about 80 miles of range in just 10 minutes on DC fast charging. Inside, a floating glass screen encompasses both the driver’s gauge cluster and the center infotainment screen. Leather adorned surfaces surround you, and the seats are plush and supportive. A premium BOWERS & WILKINS sound system is a must for audiophiles, and the rear executive lounge package ($7000+) adds reclining rear seats which re controllable via a small screen in the armrest of each rear door. Opulence is the name of the game in this i7, all the while cruising in a hushed cabin that often makes you wonder: how are we even moving? All of this comes at a hefty price: the eDrive50 starts around $106,695 and climbs from there depending on options; the AWD xDrive60 stickers for $125,195 while the top of the line M70 will set you back $169,495. What do you think of the electrified BMW flagship sedan?

I think the i7 nose is a huge improvement over the pig snout of the iX (and even i4's schnozzola). This xDrive50 is the one to get is you don't want/need AWD. The M70 seems a poor value. But, I love this BMW i7s gravitas. The sheer size is likely the biggest problem, she's a big girl. What a ride!

Nice review! I loved watching your Mirage review videos especially as well as your 2024 Kia Soul! Could you possibly review more affordable cars like a base 2024 Corolla LE sedan and base Civic LX?

It felt TOTALLY planted on the ground - I truly have never driven a more “confidence inspiring” vehicle, EV or otherwise.
