Yep, you got it. You can actually put the weight on to match the float, ie: 1/2 oz float and 1/2 oz weight plus your mid-point weight. I like the float to ride a little higher so you can see it well, on long drifts. So, I always go an 1/8th oz less than the float. Make sense?
Hi Duane - Always informative! I'll give that trailer hook method a try and report back. Thanks for all the knowledge over the years. (this is coming from a fairly serious bank angler) Maybe do some partnership vids with other youtubers, not sure who but hey, just trying to give some ideas to help you since you've helped me and im sure a lot of others. Thx again, Dan from BC (Subscriber)
Why do you run a top shot while bobber fishing? Is it because you don't want the fish to see your braid? Is it because you are using the rubber bobber stops and they do not hold on braid line? Just do not get why you do this so please explain.
Yes, both of those reasons and I have had much higher success when doing so. I have run a top shot for as long as I have been float fishing. It really makes a differance when the water gets low and clear... At least what I have expierenced..You run straight braid to your lead?
@@FishHuntNorthwest I do run straight braid when I am running slip bobbers but when the water is clear I just run a longer leader with a split shot to keep my bait neutrally buoyant. I do like your idea of running a 1 inch section of pencil led with a stop insead of split shot and cant wait to try this. I also take a sharpie to my braid when this is the case to mitigate the fish seeing my yellow main line. When it is low and clear I do run a long bumper with a fixed bobber so that the fish do not see my mainline. I never run a rubber bobber stop on my mainline because I have had better success with the thinner dacron bobber stops where the rubber ones do catch in my guides. To peg my bobber to a fixed position I have run rubber bobber stops on the bottom. Thanks for responding and all of your videos helping other fishermen and "Bobber Down"!!!
Awesome video very helpful! Thanks for posting this. When you say sometimes you are allowed to use 2 hooks fishing this method for salmon, do you know if in western washington you are allowed to fish in the rivers this way with 2 hooks? I’ve only ever heard that you can only use a single barbless hook
Usually I use 25 to 30 lb. for my top shot and will run equal to or 5 lbs. less for my leader. If it's mostly Coho, I will even run 20 lb. top shot and 15 lb. leader.
Fish Hunt Northwest for the beau mac bobber stops, are you using the size 8-12lb? I can’t seem to find anything bigger. If I’m not able to find the beau Mac brand, would the eagle claw rubber stops hold?
Fish Hunt Northwest Do you think a 20lb leader maxima is strong enough for a big fall chinook? That’s what I’m using now but I’ve had some people tell me to go heavier.
i CAN'T FIND THAT STYLE OF BEAU-MAC BOOBBERS. EVEN ON BEAU-MAC WEB STITE. i LIVE IN IDAHO AND FISH THE SALMON & CLEARWATER RIVERS. SO WHERE CAN I PURCHASE SOME? Paul D
Sportco in Fife. Call 253-922-2222, follow directions to the fishing counter. Tell them what you are looking for. Type and size of bobber. You can pay over the phone and they will ship. -DI
Awesome, thank you.
"Or if you think I'm full of it..." 😆 Great video, very informative. Thank you for sharing. 😊😎
Awesome detail! Wrote every word down thanks.
Great video. Thanks for the tips!
So if I use half ounce float offset it with 3/8 weight….hollow core for mid piont

Yes sir thank you

Are you using the same line weight for your mono leader all the way including the leader line?
Usually I use 25 to 30 lb. for my top shot and will run equal to or 5 lbs. less for my leader. If it's mostly Coho, I will even run 20 lb. top shot and 15 lb. leader.
Fish Hunt Northwest appreciate it. I’ve been going through a few of your videos, learned a few new tricks. Thank you!

Yes, those would work as well. But yes, I tend to use the 8-12. You have to pull them on the 25lb. carefully, but you can do it.
