This next request in my "John Farnham can sing bloody anything" playlist is, no joke, opera. The bald guy in this video is Anthony Warlow, Australian Opera and Broadway royalty. This concert was called The Main Event, where Olivia Newton John also performed alongside these two. So... yeah. No notes. Not only can John Farnham slay Black Dog, but he can also sing opera.

Anthony is the elite of Australian Opera....it was great to see John could really hold his own against him and turn it into a comedy act to boot. I saw this concert when it came to Perth and was probably my favourite concert of all time. 3 incredible singers and personality overload. You should also check out John with Olivia Newton John Singing "Please Don't Ask Me" from that same concert ...very emotional.

Anthony Warlow is arguably Australia's greatest tenor, and really made a huge impact in bringing in regular people to see opera and musical theatre.

Actually Anthony is what they call a lyric baritone and is classically trained. He’s an absolute legend in Australian musical theatre. John is a tenor and has a much higher range. The Main Event concert with John, Anthony and the wonderful Olivia Newton-John was phenomenal, one of the best I’ve ever been to. The chemistry between them was amazing. I love the way they clown around. Check out more of the show, you’ll be blown away.😊

Anthony Warlow won his own cancer battle a while ago. From my bro-in-law, radium to the face is not too pleasant, causes problems with tasting as well, so it is great his sense of humour will help John along the way. I had breast cancer, chemo and radium, lost my hair and grew it back, so I know it is possible to get through cancer. Positivity rocks. The big C, is so cruel though, it has already taken far too many of my family, we just can't give up, ever.

The voice Anthony put on when asking for a towel was that of Frank Spencer, the main character in the British comedy "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em".
    Why?
Because it was a nod to Michael Crawford (Frank) who was the original Phantom from the musical The Phantom of the Opera. Anthony Warlow was the original Phantom for the Australian production. All the Phantoms have a bond.

@@frank4792 If you are thinking of the production before the 2007 one, there was a production of The Phantom of the Opera in 1990, Warlow was the Phantom for that one before Rob Guest later took over. If perhaps you are thinking of the 1976 Phantom of the Opera (Hill, not Lloyd-Webber) it didn't make an appearance in Australia until 1992 and is a different musical (and omits 'The' from the title) with the revised version having classical music rather than contemporary.

This was a musical spoof of opera, hence the joking gestures etc. Anthony Warlow is an amazing Australian opera, but mainly musical theatre, performer. In this concert he also does a number of solos. My favourite one is, 'This Is the Moment,' from the musical Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Please watch it. His rendition is outstanding. Anthony also has had cancer as has John. Adam Stolfo has done a You Tube series about the many (around twenty) styles of music that John can sing.

They do have great chemistry, and I think the main reason is because John is so down to earth and can make anyone feel like you have been mates your whole life. He is so genuine, no ego and just easy to engage with and have a laugh. Would have loved to have sat down with him with a couple of beers. He embodies the true essence of a good old-fashioned Aussie bloke. I am so honoured to have grown up with his wit, his music and his humanity. He has shaped me into the person I am today.

John is an untrained singer. Anthony is classically trained. This act was from The Main Event, a series of concerts featuring John, Anthony and Olivia Newton-John singing their various hits, singing in duet or trio and a bit of joking around. It’s a superb concert … this segment was Anthony baiting John to perform “high art” and of course John’s role was to ham it up. But you can hear vocally John can more than keep up! Anthony has battled cancer years ago and was the face of the Leukemia Foundation for years. Olivia was outstanding in the work she did for cancer research and her legacy lives as a hospital dedicated to finding treatments for the disease. John is battling his own cancer issue now with a difficult road ahead. If you get the chance to see The Main Event, you’ll find you love every minute of it. Superb talent, chemistry and friendship. Anthony’s rendition of This Is The Moment from Jekyll and Hyde show is spine tingling. John and Olivia perform You’re The One That I want … you’ll love it. Best concert ever.

No John Farnham can talk a lot too. Here's a nice story for you. My daughter came home and asked me if she could work for one night at a wedding in country Victoria when she was only 15 because her friend was working there and they were short staffed and I gave my permission and took her there. When she arrived she heard nothing but a huge commotion and a big kerfuffle coming from the kitchen area. John and his wife were guests at the wedding and the women were all nervous so they asked my daughter to serve them. Now bare in mind that she's one of those sweet but very quiet girls. John absolutely adored her because that's how John is. Today she's in her 30s and has always thought of John as one of the most down to earth, kind human that she has ever met. Yes the man is real and the sweetness that you see in him is real.
