I think (could be wrong) that the sound card bandwidth depends on the sound card you have. Most are not 192kHz. Also, I think it needs to be stereo input, and a lot of usb sound cards are not stereo line in, but mono. Again, I could be wrong. You have to verify by testing.
You're correct. You usually need a higher end audio interface. There are some stereo line in sound cards but most are mono mic inputs. However a sound card with a line-in is usually stereo.
Great video, thank you! Just one thing...... at around the 9:05 mark you noted the IQ Out EN somehow went back to the default mode. What really happened is at 2:44 your hand touched and moved the VFO knob. Instead of using the + or - to make changes, you can also use the VFO knob to scroll through them. Just an FYI. Thanks again for this info, it worked perfectly the first try! Bob, W0BNC.
perfect vid - followed the steps and it works - i can confirm the issue of the sample rate is card based and all you need to do is set windows audio setup to the highest available and then match that in HDSDR
I like SDR Console a lot and has built in server so I can use the radio remotely on another Windows machine, for RX, I get exactly the same SDR experience remotely as I do from the main computer. SDR Console can TX too but not sure what radios are compatible for this.
HDSDR always shows a peak at the center. You can supress it; go to options > calibration settings, then to tab DC Removal calibration for RX. Here write 50 in the field "Bandwidth [Hz]:" and select IIR-Highpass (Auto). This works for me. 🙂
Use this software with an off-centre offset, so the carrier in the centre is not influencing the received signals. You can tune this in the software for less impact by tuning the I and the Q signals for synchronicity, but you will almost never get rid of this. The better option is to use SDR-console v3, which does this automatically and even better.
SDR-DXobserver, Which input do you use in SDRconsole? I asked Simon, and he replied that he did not know if it is possible to use SDRconsole for this specific task.
I have the latest firmware installed on my X6100 but in the settings there is no IQ OUT EN window so I can’t turn it on. Don’t think it is on by default as I am not getting the spectrum on my screen. Getting audio OK and can control frequency also
I don't think your correct, I think the IQ is just "always on" now, they only removed the option to "turn it off" which was pointless anyway 🤷 if I'm wrong, one could always roll back to an old Firmware, but yes, Xiegu keeps fucking up the firmware 🙄@@HAMRADIODUDE
Maybe an updated video is needed. None of the speaker settings are the same on my Win10 (home edition) PC, no IQ out menu setting on my X6100 and there is no way to set the radio to ICOM 718 on Omni Rig V2. Shoot now I need to uninstall it all.
I'm terribly sorry. I had it working with V1.2 and had no issue. I did upgrade to 2.1 and had some issues, but eventually got it working. I would suggest V1.2 for now. I updated my description (my fault). Let me know on discord if you are still having issues and we can walk through it
Thanks for making this to work, I was trying yesterday but I missed some information. I used the USB-C audio as input, to get the sound from the radio, will this work also? And if not, can you explain why. Thanks allot again, this radio is awesome.
Most PC mic inputs are mono only, but HPSDR requires IQ "stereo" inputs. Are you sure this works properly using IQ sound outputs on a PC SDR? Also, the IQ bandwidth from the radio is likely something less than 192K....have you checked?
It worked great for me for both line in and mic in. Both of those I can set to 192000. Although that's a good point about stereo. Thanks for the input, it'll probably help others having an issue
Is there a way to stream the IQ samples out over wifi or usb? Can someone point me to a hack? I’m thinking about buying this radio as a cheap rf frontend to gnuradio backend. i want to do some spread spectrum experiments. What doesn’t make sense to me that the iq samples is already available to the sdr. Why go through additional step of converting that back to analog, squeeze that down a limited bw analog audio channel, only to be resampled back up to iq? Also, just because you can configure the pc’s sound card for 192 kHz doesn’t mean the radio is putting that out over analog audio.
Hi Robert. At the time I finally decided to get rid of the radio, xiegu had removed the capability for IQ out. Horrible decision on their part. Since getting rid of this radio however, I'm on certain whether or not the features available again. Everything I see kind of says no. Sorry to be the downer. Maybe there's a workaround, this radio is just too pieced together for me
@@HAMRADIODUDE that's a marketing mistake. It's not as if their non-Chinese customers can replicate the hardware at Xiegu's price point. Opening up that HW for end user tinkering means free engineering NRE. Hmmm. I bet they are worried about counterfeit and copy cats from other Chinese manufacturers. Karma's a bitch, eh?
Ive yet to figure out out, but I'm assuming it has to do sm with another setting in the software that needs to be tweeked. I'll look into more when I had a few moments
If I am anywhere near my laptop when I key my mike, the laptop freaks out... I wish I could broadcast near my laptop so I could take advantage of computer add-ons like this one.
Yes, SDR Console is really fantastic and so is it's built in server function which allows someone to use their radio from anywhere with full control with SDR console installed on the remote laptop. With SDR Console one can TX too but not sure if the 6100 is compatible with TX using SDR Console and 6100 ? I use it with my 7300 and Airspy HF+, got the ptrx 7300 panadapter, was never happy with the audio quality from the 7300, too much sacrifice was made in order to have so many features, I like the 7300 but the audio is not good, my FT-891 sounds vastly superior. But having the waterfall on a 24 inch monitor made a massive difference.
@@HAMRADIODUDE It's been a while since I set up SDR Console to work with my Airspy HF+ but you need to add some DLL to the sdr console folder. Might be better to ask on groups.io. But once you have a compatible DLL you can then select the radio from the definitions on SDR console.
Same here, SDR-console every day of the week. It is more flexible, accurate, way better waterfall and more usability and feature rich. Here there is an I/Q crossover suppression, so there is no fat (fake) signal in the centre of the screen. Also, the S-meter is spot on when set correctly, and you have an SNR metering, which is the one to use to evaluate real signal strength.

You're correct. You usually need a higher end audio interface. There are some stereo line in sound cards but most are mono mic inputs. However a sound card with a line-in is usually stereo.
Most USB sound cards nowdays are stereo and the sampling rate is typically 48khz unless you have a high end sound card.
Yes , You are right . Always It has to use a soundcard with two-channel input and availability of 96 kHz or better 192 kHz sample rate ...

This is great! You can probably use these instructions on any other SDR programs, like SDR#, SDR++, SDRUno, etc. Easier to see on a bigger screen.

What exactly is the IQ Out? Is it just an audio output from X6100?? Could this work with any radio with audio output?
Thank you!

Wider bandwidth available to view
Unfortunately the I/Q settings vanished in one of the firmware updates. At least I can't find it any more. 73, Stephan, DF6PA
Yeah. It's silly they got rid of it
It may just work without having to enable it
Do not forget to calibrate the signal meter. Yes, it is not accurate, but at least you will get a more honest value on the meter.
I need this on my Raspberry Pi.... Anyone know of an alternative to do the same thing?

Buy a soundcard
I honestly think it's not worth hooking this rig up to HDSDR, the bandscope / waterfall on the actual radio is wide enough 🤷
Any thoughts on what the signal in the center of your HDSDR is coming from? It is there before you enabled the IQ port on the radio.
