I wish I had seen this video when it first came out, for some reason it has been 6 months before I was aware of it. I am retired in Florida, clearly this looks like the owner is in south Florida. Mine was bought new a few months after this model serial number and it already had improvements like the sliding seat track. Literally hundreds more small and large upgrades happened in the last 6 years since his (name of owner not mentioned) was built. The original aluminum backed solar panels had a problem with an eventual 50% failure rate so the huge Facebook ELF owners group (there are 3 groups in total) figured out that replacing the riveted on panel with another expensive aluminum backed panel was not the way to go. I was the first to try a vinyl backed flex panel applied directly over my OEM 100 watt panel, leaving the original just as a body rigidity component. This is easier and cheaper. The roof curve is not excessive and in theory it should not kill these flex panels but many go dead when a soldered conductor eventually separates and can not be repaired. The high quality solar charge controller OT selected is far more dependable than the panel itself. The old battery the owner had is close to end of life, the owners group has many documented and photographed battery replacement projects. The standard amp hour capacity for these batteries rose to 17 AH eventually. A functioning solar panel really extends battery range especially when you pedal, in fact I have never run down a battery completely in 6 years and I weigh 300 pounds. The ELF has been my only transportation for 6 years, getting rid of my car has saved me $16,000 so far and the exercise and emissions free transportation is priceless.
Very helpful. I no longer can get a driver's license due to vision issues, but see well enough to operate at the slower speeds of an ebike. The Elf is going on my shortlist.
It's too bad Organic Transit folded; the assets are for sale so it may come back; it's a good bike so we can hope. I bought a PEBL last year and agree, these things are nice.

After seeing this video, I think the industry would do well to abandon trikes for quads to make it easier to avoid pot holes and bumps. I ride a RoverTerra Trike, and a Burley Recumbent, and I feel qualified to make this point. The wheels need to be in-line tracking with a good distance between each side of your vehicle. On a trike, you avoid a bump on the front tire, just to pick it up on the rear tire, the drive wheel, torquing the thrust and make it feel like a harder impact on your back. Bumps tear bikes apart, and it's important to miss as many as you can. Quad with good suspension for the electric bike that's going to be there in another hundred years. These are novelty.
Sorry, you do not seem to be aware of the federal law for US ebikes. 3 wheels or less is mandatory to avoid a requirement for license and insurance. 4 wheels not legal on bike paths or trails either. This is no issue in the EU. Light enclosed vehicles like this are never going to be practical for off road use, get an MTB for that. We use 3 inch tires slightly under inflated for a reasonably smooth ride.
One design flaw the owner was not aware of - the rear window turned out to not be flexible enough to survive repeated bends when you roll it up and use the velcro strip to hold it up. Remove the velcro so you won't be tempted. In colder climates this results in shattering or serious cracks, in my climate it began developing hundreds of micro-cracks so I stopped rolling it and it has not gotten any worse with years of use. The choice of a very light design is still wise - the PEBL has a framed rear window with gas shocks and key lock, this certainly is more durable but part of the reason the PEBL is fatally over weight at 70 pounds heavier than the ELF.
I have a question , since seem knowledgeable on ELF bikes Can you upgrade it to go faster like 40mph or 50 ? Bc from miami to key west theres 46 bridges to get over. Can it be done?

I'd be more concerned about how it deals with winter road conditions then having to bundle up. Road salt can do murder to even regular cars over time (causes a lot of rust) & I'd imagine the chain on the bottom not putting up with that very well over time. I'd imagine a heated garage for regular maintenance would be a must with these in winter assuming you know how to repair & maintain your own machine.
Clearly you never tried to pedal one. Since pedaling has to be practical for this to be a functional hybrid vehicle, the PEBL is a disaster in that department. It used to weigh 30 pounds more than the 160 pound ELF, then it turned out the hippie body shell made from hemp was disintegrating in hot climates. They went to a 230 pound vehicle weight with their fiberglass replacement shell. PEBL excites inexperienced ebike fans who don't understand just how critical low weight is. You are dazzled by the liner, wood dashboard, courtesy lights, door panels, gas shock trunk lid and all that stuff adds up to make the PEBL too heavy to enjoy pedaling. You certainly can pedal for exercise but it needs a very large capacity battery and so many complained about the lack of hill climbing power that the factory had to install an illegal mod that doubled the motor power to 1,500 watts - that is illegal in the US on all roads and trails. Federal law limits ebikes to 750 watts power. Based on our US laws, there is an unwritten rule about these designs that they must not weigh more than about 170 pounds to be practical. Buy a PEBL and it will end up sitting parked all the time. ELF owners get out on the road and travel, over 5 million miles logged so far. The solar feature works.

If it had a Li-PO battery instead of a LI-IOn battery I would most likely get one but those Li-ION ones just go out too quickly.
