So nostalgic - My first car was a '78 Red Mk2 Escort, loved it (although was only a 1.1 Popular), being 17/18 years old I did get the back end of it fish tailing a little with it being rear wheel drive, and I think helped my driving as I got older. If I had the money would love to get one like my first car - all the benefits of a new modern car, but with memories of being 18 again! - Good luck to your business.
I wouldn't normally condone such driving on what appears to be public roads.....but my gosh, that is some car! What a beautiful day it would be to one day own one (and have the minerals / skill to drive it like that) good work.
@@paulthomas3374 Yes it's cheap compared to actual Mexico and RS cars, BUT that still doesn't make it cheap OR good VFM. Classic Ford prices are probably one of the biggest bubbles there is. Not saying it will burst any time soon but that kind of money for those kind of cars is ridiculous and that's coming from a Ford fan.
My Papa had a 1300 (if my memory serves me correctly) in a pale blue. That was 40 something years ago. He part-ex'd it for a 1600 Cavalier cause it was bigger but he prefered the Escort.

Just seen Mr Johnny Smith's review of this and so TH-cam's algorithm directed me to your video put up 19 days earlier. Great idea, extremely well executed. I am interested to see although this was classed as a kit car, you do not have the Q registration plates but a new 70 plate. Also would have assumed old EU laws would have required the dodgy day time running lights to be fitted as this is a new car, not a resto mod.
New build, it's.impossible to restore a mk2 and register it on a 70 plate UMLESS it was never registered since it was built in this country, but even so it'd probably get an age related plate like the American imports which you still can't put a newer numberplate on.
You mentioned that you are building one for a California based customer. I have two questions... Can you build a left-hand drive version of the MK2? Is it possible for one of these to be road legal in California?
@@simonorr594 I did a bit more research and MST are building these Mk1 and Mk2 shells from scratch in Pwllheli. DVLA has them registered as MST mk1 or MST mk2. I think these must be the first cars built in wales since Davrian packed it in. the next car should be a Gilburn Invader shell made from Kevlar/Carbon fibre and put these modern mechanicals in them.
@@huwjones5879 Nice! I think the Irish Rally Lads had some shells made in China a couple of years ago, and they were being sold for about 25k. It seems a shame that BMH couldn't make them, but maybe they only do ex BL products and can't get access to the dies. I do think some of the panel gaps on this prototype are a bit on the limit, so I hope they tighten up as production starts - low volume body in white must be a bit of a nightmare.

@@richardoakley8800 I've been in a 2L Mexico with an LSD with winter tyres and over taken a land rover uphill on a snow covered single track road. I think you will find the tyres were hopeless just the same as you see today with 4wd cars in the snow on summer tyres and they wonder why they can't stop until they end up in a ditch

As this is on a 70 plate as a new vehicle it must be a new body shell, where did that come from or was it a bespoke fabrication?
You can get new shells - there's a rolling shell on ebay for 35k
