    Pastor Charles preached in our recent Bible conference. He is a faithful, humble expositor of God's Word. I can attest that this process is very productive and that he was blessed by God with each aspect he prays before he preaches. It was awesome to see God use him in such a great way.

    If I didn't stutter so bad I'd be halfway ok. Do you have any tips for speech impediments?

      I don't have any specific advice to offer, brother. But as the Lord has called you to preach, he will give you the wisdom, strength, and help you need. Keep pressing on.

    Awesome video. This is 4 years of seminary in 12 minutes (lol). The background file that is prepared for you seems critical to your sermon prep. What are the qualifications of the file preparer? Has to be somebody you totally trust? How does she know what to grab and what to ignore? How did you train her to only give you certain things that make the rest of the prep easy? Sorry for so many questions but your file prep is intriguing and for most of us, I bet is the missing step...

    Thank you very much Pastor. Much appreciated. May God bless you richly. I occasionally lead prayer meetings in our local church and your ministry and style of exposition has had a deeply positive effect on my own teaching. Thank you🙏

    Thanks HB for sharing your sermon process and every sermon prep process is not a one size fits all thing but I confess that I like refining my own sermon process by reading good books and listening to practitioners like yourself to get good ideas for my process refinement. As always keep doing your thing and I will catch you on the next one Lord willing

    When you mention you list objectives of the sermon, are you talking about objectives in order to apply the text? Do you declare that objective, or some would call a proposition, explicitly in your sermon? Some would begin their sermon either in the introduction or after the introduction saying, "Today, God wants you to ..." Is that how you do it?

    • @hbcharles
      @hbcharles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my sermon skeleton, I craft a main idea - a short, direct, active sentence that summarizes the point of the sermon. But I also consider three objective for the message that I most often do not formally state: 1. What should the hearer think/believe as a result of this message? 2. What should the preacher feel as a result of this message? 3. What should the hearer do as a result of this message?

    This was very helpful Dr. Charles. Can you enlarge on what you file is?

    • @hbcharles
      @hbcharles  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have all the resources I will need from reference books and commentaries copied and placed into a file. As a read the material, I record what I am learning on Microsoft Word documents that I label notes, context/background, commentary, sermon ideas, sermon outlines. As I record what I need, I toss the copies. I usually include some of the copies in the file that I may want to refer to later. Thus, when I have finished studying, I have a file of study material on that text that will serve me for the rest of my ministry, God willing.

    • @hbcharles

      Currently, a sister in our church who works in our front office. I have a cart with the books for my current series. She or someone takes that cart of books and copy what I need for each sermon text.

    I've pastored and preached for years the only process I know of is humble yourself to God in prayer, and wait on God to give you a message from God Himself not a man made put together sermon.

      Your logic is questionable and your understanding of the importance and authority of scripture is skewed as well.
      Explain how someone who goes to the Word of God and through an in depth study of that Word receives a message from God from that Word is somehow more "man made" in his preparation then you going into your prayer closet and supposedly "receiving" something from God and writing it in a sermon to deliver to the Church. That doesn't make sense at all.
      Seems to me your method is more "man made" than H.B. Charles' method since you are not relying on God's scriptural revelation but rather your own carnal and subjective ability to discern a message that comes no other way but through your own thoughts. Seems like that is more "man made" than having faith in what God has already revealed in scripture and sharing His thoughts with the people of God rather than our own.
      It's erroneous to create a false dichotomy between in depth study and preparation and the spiritual quality of what is produced from that preparation.
      One is not less spiritual by in-depth study and one is also not more spiritual without it. Honestly the latter could actually be interpreted as laziness rather than spirituality.
      Not sure how one can humble himself in prayer and then say that one cannot humble himself under the Word of God as well. Again it's an erroneous false dichotomy.
