Damaris Carbaugh, a native New Yorker, grew up in Cuba, Puerto Rico and New York City. She gave her life to Christ at the age of eight and by eleven knew all she ever wanted to do was sing. As a teen, Damaris and her two sisters sang as a trio and traveled with their mother. At 15, she was asked to sing at a recording studio, and soon she was in demand by producers and advertising agencies in New York. In the years since, Damaris has sung with many well-known artists in recording sessions. She has performed vocals on countless advertising jingles and commercials, often in Spanish, which she speaks fluently. In the early ’80s, Damaris was seeking a career as a secular performer, feeling that this was the way God would give her a platform and would use her talents. In 1982 she won the American Song Festival Talent Search and received a recording contract with CBS Records. The album was released in January 1984 but, in Damaris’s own words, “It went nowhere.” A turning point came in Damaris life in 1988, when she visited a group of believers in Argentina who live in abject poverty. She was struck by their devotion to the Lord in spite of their circumstances, serving Him not for His blessings, but for the pure joy of loving Him. Damaris felt a need to give herself totally to the Lord, and began praying for ways to use her talents more fully for him. For many years, she has used her gifts to glorify the Lord and tell others about Him. Her depth of love and devotion for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is so evident through her special gift of song and powerful speaking ministry. You will be moved and inspired as Damaris reveals a true servant’s heart through her beautiful voice and infectious love for teaching God’s Word which reflects her personal spiritual journey. This talented musician was a featured soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and regularly appeared on the “Day of Discovery” television program. Damaris lives in Mt. Vernon, New York with her husband of over thirty-five years, Rod. Their grown daughter, Ashley Rose (Wheaton College 2005) lives nearby. Ashley is a charter school math teacher in NYC. Their married son, James Christian (Naval Postgraduate School 2015, US Naval Academy 2007), is a Lieutenant Navy Aviator with masters degrees in Operations Research and Applied Mathematics. There is a difference between a Christian singer and a singer who is a Christian. Damaris is a Christian who's been gifted to sing the glories of God! Though her voice has always been a very special gift and one that has and continues to bless me richly, I believe it was always secondary to the message God wrote upon her heart! What a blessing!

I have never seen a “soul” as beautiful or a voice so perfectly wonderful as YOU have, Damaris. My friend Carolyn Fultz, who died in 2017, loved to hear you sing and watch your amazing video as much, if not even more than I did!

I've listened to this beautiful soul sing for many years . I heard her sing for the first time on The Day Of Discovery and have been a loyal listener of hers ever since . And even though we've both advanced in age since then her voice is still just as moving and beautiful as ever . Over the course of many years I've listened to many Christian singers but Damaris Carbaugh is in a class all her own . When she sings I'm moved to tears of emotion from the immense love that she shows for her God above . Thank you so much Damaris as you are truly a gift from God to all of us listeners that enjoy your singing of praise to our Lord above
I met Damaris in Charlotte, NC at Calvery Church in 1991. My Mother was in the Hospital trying to recover from 5 Brain surgeries. Damaris music help me face the next 2 years as Mom's caretaker, on more than one occasion. She was amazing and I've bought every CD she's made by herself and with The Brooklyn Tabernacle.

Damaris... funny about voices, it's really not the voice but the power of the Holy Spirit moving in us, (of course it helps to hold a key & you do that beautifully, lol) from the days when i listened to your cd's specifically ,"Just Hymns", in my kitchen, with my children (they remember your music, i played it that often) the Holy Spirit was working. His mercy allows us to be used even in our imperfection, He knows the heart of His children, even when we miss it, and still, in His mercy, chooses to use us. But how wonderful, that as we mature in Christ we are continually humbled, realizing we are nothing without Him and how amazing that He chooses to use us and love us, regardless of our frailties and failures... He's a good, good Father. Your voice reflects the glory of our hearts when we meet Him before the throne. Thank You for sharing your heart here, i was deeply moved. All God's blessing and strength sister... we're going home very, very, very soon. ")

Damaris, I will be 67 in a few days. Your voice may not be strong and powerful as we age, but it is expressive. With years of experience as a Christian, our voice has depth. I recommend you use a headset microphone at as high a volume as you can without feedback. Then, sing softly with expression. I think you will be pleased with the result. You still sound good. Of course, your song selection is impeccable. Try to use as little vibrato as possible. Hit the notes cleanly, in tune. I get emotional too when I sing. I love singing your songs of worship and praise during the day and try to share it. We are so fortunate Our loving Father is so good to us.

I've heard you speak in person in the 80's at Moody Church with Mary Welchel. Don't know if she still has these womens groups since I've moved from the area, but I listen to your tapes constantly, especially now, during this pandemic. You have been an inspiration all my life. I too sing your range but am 72 now and my voice is not what it used to be. God knows I try. Love you. God bless you and your family.

Damaris I love you so much. I have had the pleasure of seeing you in person with my daughter about four times. She was young at the time but you let a lasting impression on her young life. At my mother's funeral I had them sing "When We All Get To Heaven". If my email shows up on this comment please forward your schedule because I can't seem to find it. I was introduced to your beautiful spirit, I guess back in the late 80's. So it's been a while. Do you remember the story you told about the New York woman that looked at your daughter and asked if you "CARE" for HER? (As a sitter/nanny) And you replied, I sure do, she's my daughter! You can't make this stuff up. Damaris, I still have your cassettes from back in the day. But I also hear your struggle with the Lord. I'm going to Pray for you. Pray for me, just pick anything. Love you Damaris.
I always loved your voice. Your singing with the Discovery singers and Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir spoke deeply to me. The anointing is still there. To God be all the Glory. Yes Damaris continue to follow Him.

I disagree with Damaris. Her voice is more beautiful and impressive than ever for it is completely the power of Jesus ministering through this humble vessel. For decades, the sound of her voice has never failed to minister to me.
