    Good tip with the Jack under the tie rod I don't know how many times I've replaced tie rod ends because of that reason when I really either couldn't afford to at the time or didn't want to do that much work on the vehicle at one time

      Def agree. I don't know why I didn't think of that myself...I've used a similar trick on antique stuff.

    Same thing happens to me when I did my hub... Only 2 outta 3 bolts were in 🤷‍♂️. Luckily I had that extra rusty D30 laying around to take one from. Great work as always 👍

      Apparently every Jeeper should have an old D30 rusting in the backyard. haha

      I recently discovered that my passenger side CV is torn. I have a vibration that occurs when I slow down but not come to a complete stop.

    Love it man! The screwdriver idea is genius. If it hasn't been mentioned yet, you really should torque hub nuts with weight on the wheel. The idea behind torquing this nut isn't to keep it from coming off, its to pre-load the bearing. That pre-load should be applied with the suspension collapsed to ride height. this way the inner and outer races of the bearing are in alignment and not angled away from each other.

    • @DEInTheGarage
      @DEInTheGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is very good advice and it makes perfect sense. I will change how I torque these in the future. thanks!

    • @YOUZTUBE2000
      @YOUZTUBE2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Question: With weight on the wheel would there be much of a problem reaching the hub nuts in order torque them correctly?

    • @jonb2046
      @jonb2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@YOUZTUBE2000 you’ll want to leave off your wheel center cap so you can access them. Once torqued, pull the wheel, replace the castle nut cage thingy and put in a new cotter pin. Replace the center cap in the wheel and remount. It’s a little extra work but worth it in my opinion.

    Ah, I shoulda looked up this video sooner smh. I am re-installing my old CV axle and the joint is a little sloppy but not bad. I'm been trying to slide it back in but can'r get it to go straight but after watching your screwdriver method I will try that and hopefully avoid having to remove the diff cover to guide the shaft. Thanks for making this channel and sharing your knowledge I very much appreciate this, liked and subbed.

    Hey brother quick question, I have 2001 Jeep Cherokee xj and replacing the existing u-joint Axel shafts with CV joints. My question is this: will the CV axels work with those fancy shiny metal Axel tube seals? (Red with black rubber stripes?
    Also, how would you suggest reassembly? Should I install the actual first and then put on knuckles or vice versa?
    Thanks Man for all the great videos! Lied and subscribed!

    Loving it and then the nail cotter pin..people think I'm crazy because for my battery terminals I have clamps, u know the king round with screw . I break every single battery terminal connector I touch....they been on there over a year. Clean them up here and there just like you would regular terminal things good to go. Thanks for all the info. I'm pretty sure my wj got that issue. The boot is torn away and grass is everywhere. Death wobble on steroids. even if that's not the problem for my death wobble it needs replacing I'm sure just and I haven't even taken apart yet. I don't like to go nowhere anyway so if Jeep jacked up. I dontt not go nowhere...

  • @jeepinbanditrider
    @jeepinbanditrider 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You dont have to be exact while pulling or installing the shafts. The axle seals are cone shaped and guide the axleshaft into place.

    After years of seeing RockAuto commercials everywhere I turn, it appears it will be a D&E video that finally drives me to their store. Got a ripped CV boot on my 2000 WJ quadra-drive, front left. Any recommendations on the various suppliers of replacement axles I find on RockAuto ie GSP, Surtrack/Trakmotive, Cardone?

    • @DEInTheGarage
      @DEInTheGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am a big fan of Cardone. I have to say, bud. I have not had a bad experience on RockAuto ever. I know a few people who claimed to get shotty parts, but when I weigh the price and convenience, I have ALWAYS been satisfied. Good luck bud!

    Ive got a '99 wj and when i go to put in my front passenger side cv axle it slides in almost all the way until it stops at like 2 inches from fully in. The splines go in to the gear cause it doesnt turn but stops a couple inches early

    But you go to use torque specs even better you got to use torque sticks keep doing what you're doing I'm sure somebody's going to have a fit I've never had a problem with the good in tight method

    screwdrivers are wd40 in stick form. and looks like it is Delightfully easy to replace CV joint on Solid axles than do it on IFS

    • @DEInTheGarage

      It truly TRULY is. One of the reasons I love solid front axles so much. Everything is easier. Axle shafts, steering boxes, tie rods...

      Biggest most obvious would be the body styling. If I recall the ZJ still contained some AMC parts and design, the WJ was all Chrysler from then until when Fiat got their hands on them then it all went downhill even further.
