    Note:
    Most Chinese characters have more than one meaning(some have more than 10), the meanings I mentioned in the video are just one/some of them.

      omg same! I write stories for fun and sometimes share them with people, and these past few weeks I’ve been thinking of making an Asian American inspired story to raise awareness of the “Stop Asian Hate” movement. i’m not Asian but that’s why I plan to do lots of research, in order to understand and make my stories feel more alive full with relatable topics that people can feel connected to :)

    When I first chose my name I heard that characters with fire radicals don't fit with well with female names, why is that?
    Now I'm curious tho, how does 莉莉安 sound? 😂

    • @ChinesewithJessie
      @ChinesewithJessie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Marianna, I've never heard that characters with fire radicals don't fit well with female names, it depends on the Five Elements as well (I mentioned in this video: th-cam.com/video/kVCdABuke6U/w-d-xo.html) characters like 灿/煜/烨 could be good for female names too.
      莉莉安sounds like a transliterated name from Lilian, so just sounds…alien to us. 😂
      But 莉莉 is a common Chinese name, it sounds like Lily but means Jasmine lol. It's a lively and cute name.

    I like how these sound and it seems to be suitable for girls (hopefully) 扬扬,轩轩 but this seems too masculine. I want a name that is pronounced er. Any tone. These two are pronounced ěr 洱珥 and they are nice, but I don't necessarily favour their meanings. They do have good meanings. 珥 means jade or pearl earrings and 洱 is the name of Er He river, 薾 means luxuriant growth of flowers. I would like a name that has to do with intellect and philosophical things like 儒 or 思. Er is my favourite syllable to pronounce, so I'd like it as my name.
    Edit: turns out珥 has a wonderful historical context, it doesn't only mean jade. Jade has to do with values like loyalty and stuff. I like that. 洱 is a name, however i don't know if it's suitable for me, i like the feeling it gives. Like a peaceful river. Also, 高珥 kinda sounds nice not going to lie.
    Edit: another good one. 英. Would 珥英 go together well? 英 means heroic or courageous which is a tad outlandish but i like it. 理 means reason or logic and that's more my forte. I like the way the surname 港 with it. Another edit. If you're like me and really like this radical - 耳, and are a beautiful woman, this is for you 媶, pronounced róng and it means beautiful. 㛅 seems to have no meaning but it's used in girl's names and it's pronounced èr. But.....I don't think you should couple it with 高. Cause if you do, it will sound like 高二. There's also this one 㜨 which means the same but doesn't have the radical and is pronounced ér. 聑 - tiē or zhé means comfortable and I think it would go well with 舒.
    Edit: 洱 as a name would be suitable for me and would also go really well with the surnames - 木,呂 and 港. I feel like 呂洱 would give off the calm, humble and reliable vibe I'm looking for.

      Hmm all of them are not too bad except 残阳, which means the sun is about to fall. That sounds like a name Chinese people would never get because we believe a name would have great impact on your life, and this name kinda indicates someone's life is about to end, pretty much like a curse. 残(incomplete/ left/evil/to harm) is not a good choice for names.
      彬and 旭are kinda masculine but that's not a big problem. Out of the rest four I like 昕阳 most, but personally I think 阳昕 sounds better. Up to you though.

      I like 舒 so 舒敬睿
      嵘?nope. 嫆?嬫 ?茂?飔?恳?儒思?
      高柔舒 cause I'm gentle and humble. I kinda like that one, it makes me feel comfortable. 禄荣?康荣
      高荣凯? That seems off. 岚霭
      I really like the sound of 暮. I thought暮 and 霞 would go well together but, 霞 seems to be a 90s name. I would like a name that reflects that I'm a thinker, and smart as well. Quite hard to name yourself.
      Should I give myself the surname 劳? It means work hard which would go well with my given names or should I go with 福. Sorry for the overload.

    • @ChinesewithJessie
      @ChinesewithJessie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      狼 means wolf, that sounds really odd for a name unless it's a stage name or a nickname I think. 婉仪 sounds really nice together but you might need to find a surname if you want it to sound like an authentic Chinese name. If you just want a first name, then 婉仪is good enough.

    Hi Jessie! Don't know if you're still responding to these comments but I'd like to know what you think of my name 殷金星. I'm also trying to make a good girl's name and I came up with 美亮. I'd really like your input!

    • @ChinesewithJessie
      @ChinesewithJessie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I still try to respond as much as possible, coz I know a name means a lot to someone and it could be frustrating when getting a new name in a foreign language. Wish I got some advice from a native speaker when getting the English name loll.
      Anyways, 殷 and 金星 are cool surname and cool first name, but just so you know the first two characters also sound similar to pen*s(yin jing) in Chinese, I had a classmate in high school named "yin jing *", people make dirty jokes about him all the time.
      亮 is one of the most common characters seen in male names, so I guess it depends on what kind of vibes you're going for?
      Hope this helps.
