Girl, I got bitten by the Coach bug. I purchased the Brooklyn 39 in black leather and suede. I also purchased The Time Square Tabby in their merlot color, I am very impressed. I really only purchased from designers in the last 7-8 years but Coach is killing it. I would say at least go in the store and just have some fun try on a few bags.

I feel you on this, I get tempted being on this platform whenever I see a nicely priced contemporary bag. Last year I bought the viral Cos bag, I was feeling emotional but I've barely worn it, I really don't love it, I'm going to have to give it away bc it doesn't have much value. I know for me it can be a slippery slope. I think it's a scale, and I will say if a design is so good, serves a purpose and its mid-tier -Dragon Diffusion tempts me every summer, I get it. I've definitely thought about getting a light breezy summer mid-tier bag but I've also realized I can just as easily wear my "wintery" black leather bags lol😂 I know I can talk myself into buy a bag, but sometimes just as easily talk myself out. And usually my talking-myself-out monologue is I want the higher-end bag more lol!
Oh my goodness you know how important your opinions are to me so that’s honestly very grounding and good to hear about your Cos bag!!!!! Especially when I was editing this I realized how much I’ve bought into mid-tier/high street in the past, and have to admit I had the same exact experiences as you… I’d look at them and think, man I should really wear this… and then 100% of the time reached for my luxury/designer bag instead 🙈🙈🙈

I think it depends on the bag and brand - as there are grades and levels of quality even in these super high end brands, owning pieces from them too. I have a Hermes Kelly I got from the boutique and it’s a stunner but I don’t carry it as much as you would think (and it’s a classic color, pebbled leather and everything). But I have a couple of Coach pieces that people STILL complement me on and they are 15+ years. I just keep them sharp, just take them to a leather shop and they keep going strong. I think as long as you shop quality first, your collection can always look upscale. Just care for your stuff.

It’s so true!!!!!!!! I should have weighed in that I always make sure to pay about 50%-70% below retail for the pre-love handbags I purchase. That’s no guarantee to make that percentage back, but purchasing that low second hand helps make sure you can sell for a similar amount a lot of the time in my experience 🙏🏼

Hi Lela, I think you should stick with your wishlist . I would say if it’s something like $300, like Porto pouch in some bright color, then it’s ok, but investing in medium priced bags, as a dupe , to the real thing, It’s not worth it, especially if you know, that you still going to get the premium, your dream one. And you know once you get it, the dupe will not be used anymore 😉🤪 and with low resale value, you will regret it. It’s better stick with the plan, especially you already have a beautiful collection 😍 Have a blessed day🙏❤️

Oh my, some of those mid tier bags are tempting! Sadly, or maybe not, lol, I'm a bag snob. So buying the former would be very difficult for me. A few years back I bought a Coach bag and tried to rationalize it, but the snobby part of me knew if i kept it i wouldn't wear it. So back it went. Whats even sadder - had it not had the Coach branding i might have been able to wear it.
I must confess, i was summoned to the COS website today after seeing an ad on IG. It was a huge oversized clutch, sold out in red, but available in a couple other colors. I just went to their website to look again and its not there or I'd tell u the name.
That all said, you might want to go to the store to see and feel them. If your heart skips a beat for one go for it. I dont know that id buy a bunch bc buying multiples even tho they are very well priced, would cut into ur Birkin money, but one small distraction wouldnt set u back much. And if u tire of it u could gift it away and make someone elses heart skip a beat 😘🥰😍

Yes, we do love quality. There can be quality to lower tier designer bags too it just depends on the bag. Jesse, another YT creator that loves Hermés just bought a Coach bag and absolutely loves it. She doesn't have to stress about it, she can just enjoy it.
I personally wouldn't buy a bag to sit on my shelf, Hermés or not. Bags (to me) are meant to be used, just like fine china and flatware. I have different Hermés patterns that I use everyday. I wouldn't buy them to sit in my cupboard or just have them for display, collector or not, It's all meant to be used. If u can't afford to use it buy something else you're comfortable using. Life is too short to worry.
Circling back to lower tier bags, if one pulls at ur heartstrings buy it, use it, and enjoy it, ur worth splurging a little, or saving to splurge a lot on whatever makes you happy 🥰
Not big into bags, but I feel the exact same way about clothing. Why spend $100 on a top from COS/J Crew/Doen when I can get a second-hand designer equivalent in great condition for the same price or less? 90% of the time, I regret buying fast fashion or cheap thrifted clothing, but I've always loved each and every one of my designer pieces. I know you shouldn't tie your self worth to material things, but it makes me feel so dignified to wear a beautifully designed 100% wool sweater that actually keeps me warm during winter.

I need to stop feeling like I’m offending anyone whenever I talk about wanting to prioritize luxury, but you make such a good point!! Since slowing down (in some cases completely stopping) buying mid-tier/high street, dare I say fast fashion purchases, I’ve found myself buying less but higher quality. I did that with jewelry years and years ago, but it’s definitely taken me longer with other categories. It feels so easy to get pulled back in because of deals and sales, but I’m loving consuming slower, and more consciously these days 😍🥰😍🥰

Please save your dollars for what you really want to add to your collection this year 🤎 BUT not gonna lie, I’ve been distracted by Little Lifner small totes (burgundy and chocolate brown) too, and the larger Longchamp Le Foulonné crossbody bag for everyday use…. BUT that would make a dent in my savings for luxury winter bags/scarves that I have my beady eye on! I think you might get bored of a mid-tier bag 🤔🤔🤔 even the Savette bags have issues with their clasps and I can’t see that happening with a ‘luxury’ bag.

Don't sleep on Ralph Lauren bags! They have really good craftsmanship, specifically the collection line. The 'Ricky', named after his wife, is beautiful if hardware is your thing. They run from 2.5K to 20K+ and have been a staple of the brand for forever. I like them specifically because they aren't considered mainstream bags.

1- have a bag should be fun and a way to express your style or yourself with no pressure “if I can’t have the same money back if I resell………then is not for me…….(is the mentality of people who cannot afford but do anything to have it like a life goal “(psychology that most brands use and you never realize)
2- the reason why people just don’t have fun anymore is because they buy a bag that is above whta they can afford . Example: young children having the last iPhone because is cool is a brand that most celebrities have and even because of its qualities
3- we have been educated by luxury brands (imprinting) “something only a few people can buy this is more juicy” is a status
4- even when we have the best intentions like a gift we made to ourselves a luxury brand for our hard work is not bad but the idea we have been educated (imprinting)by this culture of luxury brand remains . Question why it need to be something like Chanel or Hermes ? Because is exclusive a sort of privilege. The fact that we can resell it just makes our brain justify even more our choice again “the culture of luxury” . People who really enjoy the bag never have this sort of thought just people who to afford such a bag try their best in saving have this sort of thought the one who enjoy their bag just use it until the end like the person who ispired the Hermes Birkin who show her personality in her bag until it broke.
5- before anything a person who really wants a bag should choose without looking at the logo , should feel the leather , the stitching ecc. Someone who really appreciate the artisan job even would look for a personal bag who will cost even less than a luxury brand bag . A bag that you could buy , choose the type of leather , the design ecc. Because all this brands are not anymore the original since their founders died and sold their brand to LVMH or the other one who I don’t remember the name . There is a video who show how LVMH AND other luxury brands just have the same poor factories with Chinese people working on their bags for parts (is on TH-cam) the factories are ……….you can imagine they just hide this truth and have beautiful factories to show off but the reality is completely different all bags of Lmvh that includes a lot of brands are made in the same fabric …………….just a few are really made in what they say are made (to hide the reality) . Chanel is no more Chanel since the real Chanel died and the same goes for other brands of course the bags whoever looks good because the workers work hard but where is the labor rights in here ? Is a luxury have such a bag ????
Sadly yes because of the culture of luxury that was imprinted on our minds because we can justify saying they have more resell value in more years I made an investment and is a status symbol for others.

I couldn’t agree more and have to admit, I feel the exact same (although clearly I do still see through rose colored glasses on occasion). I’ve been thinking of how to do a video on the “downfall of luxury” but want to wait until I can exactly express my thoughts. A lot of what you said is precisely how I feel so it’s wonderful to know I’m not alone in my thinking.
I do think exceptions are fun sometimes, but ultimately (whether one agrees or not) that’s why I buy from the brands and enjoy wearing the vintage styles that I do. There is something about quality that will trump all for me 🙏🏼
With most brands these days, quality seems to be completely irrelevant, and for the most part silhouettes and thoughtfulness of the functionality has completely fallen by the wayside as well 🫠
