- Derik Queen outshined high school teammate Cooper Flagg, the nation’s top-ranked recruit, leading the East team to an 88-86 victory over the West on Tuesday night in the McDonald’s All-American game.
Queen, a bruising 6-foot-9 center and teammate of Flagg’s at Montverde Academy in Florida who is committed to Maryland, had 23 points and eight rebounds for the East. He was chosen the game’s co-MVP, along with Dylan Harper of the West team.
“It’s definitely a blessing to come out here and be around some great guys, some talented guys,” Queen said. “Now, hopefully, me and Dylan will become one of those legends that they’ll remember.”
Harper, a 6-6 guard from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey and the No. 3 recruit in the 2024 class, according to the ESPN100 rankings, led first-half scorers with 14 points and finished with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists.
“This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to come out here and compete with the 24 best players in the whole country,” Harper said. “We were showing who were really are in the matchups, and it was the best.”
Flagg, the 2024 Gatorade Player of the Year who will play at Duke next year, thrilled the crowd in the second quarter with a step-back 3-pointer. A few plays later on the defensive end, Flagg swatted a layup 25 feet the other way into the first row. The 6-9 forward is from Newport, Maine, but played his last three years of high school basketball at Montverde Academy. He finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
No. 2 recruit Ace Bailey and Harper will play together for Rutgers next season and played on the same West team on Tuesday night. Bailey, a 6-10 forward from McEachern High School in Georgia, had six points and five rebounds.
Boogie Fland, a 6-3 point guard signed with Kentucky, had 17 points for the East team and also won the game’s sportsmanship and leadership award.
“I feel like what separates us, yeah, we’re the best 24, but we have to be able to adjust to who we’re playing with,” Fland said. “We know when to take over and we know when to share the ball. We came out here, and we were playing within ourselves and playing within our team. I feel like that’s what stood out the most about us.”
Tre Johnson, a 6-6 shooting guard from Dallas who will play at Texas next season, hit a few big 3-pointers, including one that tied the game at 86 with a minute remaining. He tried one more at the buzzer for the win but missed, finishing with 17 points for the West.
Ian Jackson, a 6-4 small forward signed to North Carolina, had 21 points for the East team.
Jalil Bethea, a 6-5 guard committed to Miami, won the dunk contest on Monday night. He had three points on Tuesday. - กีฬา
The best game in 20 years. Everybody is legitimately good.
Brandon Jennings dummy
Dylan Harper is gonna be my guy for this class, he’s incredible.
Jayden quaintance only 16, but he is probably the most talented big on either roster. That kid is going to be special. 6'10 230 lbs that can dribble qnd shoot. He is another joel embid in the making.
Easily. Dude is ridiculous. And he looks like he's still growing.

The McDonalds All-American has been more competitive than the NBA All-Star game. That’s a damn shame. 2023 McDonalds game was competitive also
There’s millions of dollars on the line nowadays these kids don’t really have anything to lose if anything there’s draft stock goes up if they perform

Boogie fland came in after the west was up by double digits and single handedly brought the east back by hitting multiple 3s, and making plays to queen in the post. Queen is the best big on the floor, and boogie was the best guard on the floor whenever he was out there. Cooper flagg was aight, but IMO the two best players on the floor was boogie and Queen..until ian Jackson came out in the second half and exploded.
aight? aight is not a word. you have a speech problem?
were boogie and queen, not was boogie and queen.
Boogie, queen, and powell were bringing it back because of defense. Might be the sole reason why they brought him back in the game in the end
Harper is a stud.
@@archangelmusic13 are you that old or something that you don't know what aight means?
A lot great talent in this game
Both Rutgers commits looked good imo. Thought Jackson, Queen, and Fland all looked solid as well. No one truly exceptional, but a lot of solid players.
Tre & Fland & Ian all really stood out to me the most, u kinda know what ur getting with the top 3-4 guys but I guess what surprised me most is Ian’s activity was impressive , I knew Fland was very quick off the dribble but his shot has got much better and Tres shot is next level hes probably one of the better spot up shooters I’ve saw at this level , I was impressed bye Ace&Harper also Rutgers is gonna be fun this year but they both have been like that , and as stated in a few other comments Quintenence is unbelievable for his age he’s gonna be really good , Queen has really soft hands for a big and uses his body really well to his advantage and not to take a shot at him but I guess what surprised me most was how ordinary Cooper looks beside other 5*s , he’s very athletic but everything else looks average at best .
Bro dropping gems‼️💎

Jayden Quaintance is special, exceptional two way player, him and Drake along with Fland shooting got the East back in the game. Harper, Ian Jackson & Fland are the best guards in this class. Tre Johnson is a pure scorer. Flagg played okay not number 1 like. VJ, Ace & Queen played good. Overall, solid game from each player, the was extremely competitive.
This class is loaded.

Yeah he didn’t really pass the ball though he doesn’t rebound that well, he went to Maryland because he wanted to be the guy he didn’t care about winning. 5 years from now you probably won’t know him unless he can shoot 37 percent from deep, not physically enough and bad on defense that doesn’t translate to the NBA. Jayden is the best big in this game, only 16 4 steals 3 assists 7 rebounds a block with 9 points on 4-5 shooting it’s really not even close
@@johnnystivers6788u don’t know ball , literally was out rebounding and bullying the top ranked center that’s ranked over him😂
@@synceresanders4592 lol he played way more minutes than Jayden and got one more rebound he went to play in the ACC I promise you don’t know half of what I know to say he was the best player out there says is all , Dylan Harper Trae Johnson were clearly the best players, Jayden is the better overall player and he’s 16. Yeah Queen can score down low but he’s terrible on defense, he might look good in high school when you have Liam and Cooper on your team, he might even be good at Maryland but for a terrible team. 3 point contest…..can’t watch after the first quarter
What a street ball “down to the park” mess. Never seen so many clanked 3 point attempts. Shooting percentage by players like East 00, what was he 3 for 15 for three pointers. I was begging to get him out of the game. Harper has game but that was about it.
The game was 🔥 s/o to all the kids. I’m sure they had fun. Cooper Flagg is a beast just wasn’t that type of game for him playing alongside other players on his level. Harper is a killer 👀👀 Queen plays like a grown ass man in the paint I love it. Ian Jackson new name is Action Jack 💪🏾…..But the guy of the night is def Boogie Fland. He brought the team back and controlled the pace. The possession feels much safer when he got the ball. And showed that NYC ball handling in some of highlights 👀🔥🔥
Whole bunch of haters in this comment section
Harper and jackson best guards out there. Fland gotta play more under control. Flagg looked average, bethea is q volume shooter. Queen is the best montverde player, bailey is one and done... Johnson is legit scorer
Paul George still has not won a ring in the NBA!
But a lot of Jack.
More entertaining than the nba allstar game. Seem like these young men were actually competing.
Weak on the fundamentals, strong on the street ball style
What the hell is on Jackson and Quaintance’s heads?

Free form locs.
Flagg is not the best player in this class. Very passive and not a good shooter (judging from his overall film, not just this game). Being called #1 for so long, he has gotten lazy and has some serious holes in his game, IMHO.
I think he just plays with the flow of the offense. And defensively he will be a problem.
@@wilkdr10Cooper was easily the best player on the floor. Cooper dominated.
@@vamoneygroupHe definitely wasn’t even top 10 on the court
@@dredre373livedirect9 He was not utilized by his teammates, a lot of times when he was open, no pass, like it was intentional. Teammates made many hopeless 1v1 instead of passing to the open Cooper. I would have been pissed if I would be cut out from the game like that.
harper cherry pickin
Cooper did not stand out. He also didn't really touch the mall much. His future in the NBA will be as a point forward, playing with the ball in his hands and facilitating an offensive with his passing and driving abilities (like he did on his summer league team). He may or may not reach superstardom. His outside shooting and his handle need to improve for that to happen. He was also the youngest person in the game last night. He has plenty of time to improve.
Jayden Quaintance is 16
Cooper doesn’t stand out much at all among other 5*s he kinda shrinks , even the games I’ve watched this season with Monteverde unless they completely outclassed the opposition he doesn’t stand out , to me the 4-5 games I’ve watched them Queen & Liam has carried them , if he wants to be a star at next level he’s gotta welcome these challenges because I’ve herd people describe him as “generational talent” and even when I herd them say that I was like 🤔 because I’ve watched generational talent in this game KD , Bron, AD , KG and they didn’t shrink in these moments but lived for them and welcomed them.
@@B-Eazy999he’s a very unselfish player, and when game is even towards the end, you see him lock in on defense and ramped up that competitive edge.
