So do you need the grease to help impale? The Grease was Super Tech Multi Duty Complex. It was just a grease I had. It is Hi Temp so I guess I can reload real fast. I would think oil would also work. I am hoping the grease will stay in place longer. Anything will be better than nothing, like most Dillon users do.
@@briannemec9214 yes to impale but shh 🤫 and I later noticed the zerk fittings were already greased up and ram oiled up from the factory, but still need some for future maintenance. I found out Dillon uses Schaefer 209 grease but not sure what they put on the ram. The manual says 30 w motor oil.
@@theimpaler2317 The greased area is enclosed and once it is greased I would not think the grease would escape. So adding grease to the press would not be needed for a long time, advantage over oil. Grease on the shaft, to me, is a dirt trap. Oil is a film and excess flows to the bottom with any dirt. Every so often I wipe down the shaft and reoil. The upper part needs the wiping down most due to primer dust and gunpower. I use Pennzoil because that is what is used in my MEC hydraulic pump.
True on the newer model 550C. My comment at 1:13 states that. There are no fittings on the older 550s which a lot of people have. Do you see any fittings on my press - no.
The best greasing is to take it apart once in a while, clean the old grease and the grease bolts and put it back together.
You can also download an updated Dillon manual for the 550. Much improved version of older paper copy. Thanks for the tutorial.
Plus One for 1) Cleaning. 2) Disassembly 4) Greasing 5) Re-Assembly
( I have seen hardened grease "glued" onto those pivot pins. )
Is that the “red n tacky” grease? I’m trying to find which grease and oil to use, and will heavy duty 30 motor oil work for the ram?

The HANDLE has zerk fittings on EACH of the ‘arms’, outside of each where the handle threads in basically...
