Rudy, that was a neat trick using grease, bread and a socket to get the pilot bearing out. Kudos to you. I use bread to seal off copper pipes that I need to sweat that still has a bit of residual water. The bread will stop the water long enough to sweat the joint. When the water supply is turned on, the bread disintegrates and flows eventually down the drain

This brings back a lot of memories. It took a quart of Double Eagle reclaimed motor oil a day to drive the Galaxy back and forth to school! Thru Christmas brake I pulled out the motor on a 1952 Ford panel truck and put it in my 1960 Galaxy that I got for Christmas. Working under a tarp fighting sleet and rain. My tools consisted of a few open/box end wrenches and water pump pliers. Couldn’t feel my fingers a lot of the time due to the cold. But never complained one time I was 14 years. I was so proud of that car.

Doing all the those things at once was how a lot of older people normally learned how to drive a stick. Then throw in a floor starter button and an emergency brake that didn’t hold and try to restart the motor on a 40 degree hill! Left foot on the clutch, right toes on the brake and right heel on gas and bend over and engage the floor starter with the right hand. That’s multitasking! Lol!

Nice trick on the bearing extraction! This project brings back lots of memories! I cut my teeth and quite a few knuckles on mid sixties Chevy trucks. There are lots of ways to skin a cat but the goal is to removing the hide from the cat while keeping as much of your own as possible. FYI, the floor board will wiggle out out between the seat and the dash with the shift lever installed. Pull the 4 bolts that tie the tranny to the bell housing. Put one foot on each side with your butt on the seat and hold the tranny by the shifter. A brother underneath with the floor jack and pry bar is a huge back saver. The sifter keeps the tranny right side up and balanced on the jack while sliding it out of the bellhousing. Leaving the bellhousing and starter bolted to the engine saves a pile of work. Once clear turn the tranny 90 degrees and drop to the floor behind the crossbar. Great project!

If you can't afford windshield wipers yet, go to the auto parts store and get a bottle of Rain-X. Once you get above about 20 mph the water just beads off the windshield and you can see clearly. The harder it rains the better it works. I've used it for years.

Our dad had a ‘65 C-10, 3-speed column, inline 6 and same color as this ‘65. It was very clean and, on occasions used to drive it to school in the early 70’s. I hated it because it was not stylish as some of my classmates had a ‘69 Charger, ‘68 Cougar, and a ‘70 Olds Cutlass. Mom had a ‘69 Coronet, V-8, 318. Now that I’m older, I surely wish that I had that old C-10 now. Upon reflection/rethinking dad made an excellent choice and I would I been proud driving it today!

In the era of that truck, most standard shift trucks could have the hump over the transmission removed so you could set a cable jack on the floor boards and lift or lower the transmission to replace clutches etc.. Made life very simple.

Caulin that is a nice truck, congratulations. You have a great big brother.
The one family tradition I was hoping you would avoided, running out of fuel got you.... Enjoy your new toy.

btw - tip for when you loose your wipers ... Rain-X clean the window very good, then apply Rain-X per directions .. and you'll most not need wipers .. been there, done that.

The good ol grease n socket I haven't done that in well over a decade! One of the other ways I learnt from my father and uncle's when I was in me early teens was T cut a the head of a bolt, use 2 L plates on each side and slide hammer it out. Grease way is much faster though. Nice vid this one Rudy and also happy for you Collin.

Reminds me of my dad's old 63. Except she was white and had the big back window. Lots of great memories growing up in that truck, hauling my old band to gigs, was even my first "vehicle" after getting my license. Great taste in trucks gents!
