You fought like a cute little bee... just flying from flower to flower, from zombie to zombie, stinging them with your cute little poisonous stinger. :D
I know you said you can't get yourself to just attack normally till you are the right level, but to me I see no difference between using shrines to damage monsters or just attacking them directly, it's still damage that is not the skill in question.
I also just wanna say how underrated knockback is ey. Everyone always says it's annoying or terrible but it's actually an amazing melee ability for survivability. The way I view knockback is you are just sacrificing speed for survivability.
With attacks like poison dagger and Rabies, kb is great. Same with kb poison javs. Pushing enemies away where they need to move in order to attack you causes them to spend longer taking Dots than hitting you. And with Rabies, kb can help spread it to mobs.
@@ziljin i will say end game poison dagger with plague is actually pretty decent. The poison nova procs clear trash and with fleshripper, bone and some other things can actually do ubers. But without endgame gear it is pretty miserable.
Enjoyed the video, im doing my first ever hammer pally build. Ive been playing D2 for over 20 years and only now doing one. Mana is always a pain in the ass, but having vigor as a synergy is awesome for getting around.

I didn't know you could stand there and tank all that on players 8 at the beginning of the game! Very cool content by the way. Please keep making more.
What a terrible amazing run. I played poison dagger all of season 7, but did have a group running with me so did not experience the misery of a full solo playthrough of it. It was really quite solid endgame, but yeah it was not the most fun without gear. Also that was a great meph fight, I have never seen the pillars used so strategically.
@ryanomac27 I enjoy theory crafting meme builds and poison dagger was actually one of the better ones honestly. Plague fanged knife for constant poison nova procs for general AOE farming and did dclone and ubers with fleshripper and some other specific items. Its miserable without gear though.
I like the poison dagger with poison explosion combo. I also use the poison potions in the swap. Definitely not a strong build, but it's fun. I like poisoning everything and running around while they all die. The explosion works pretty good when they all swarm the merc or in narrow passageways. A cool trick on the maggot lair is to take all right turns. I think it always leads to the lower level.
This takes me back quite nicely. Actually came here from watching the more recent pt 2. Haven't played D2 since around 1.10 or around there. Not quite sure on your detailed restrictions, but you can do some pretty fancy stuff if you figure out how poison dmage stacks from different sources. The one I built back in the day could stab p8 Hell Baal once and that was it. Took a few minutes to do its thing but the main strength of this skill works all the way through the game if you know what you're doing. The skill's strength is also to some extent its weakness; you can only stab one enemy at a time. If I recall correctly, I had skeletons as meatshields and used confuse/attract to deal with large mobs of enemies. Come to think of it, I actually think I only had a Clay Golem - the reduced speed on boss enemies comes close to incapacitation much like Kelpie Snare. Cheers! =) EDIT: Strike that thing about one-stabbing Hell p8 Baal. Memory fail on my part.
I like your challenge runs in D2. To me it was a good cut and commentary. It's always more interesting if played in HC but I like that you didn't used a mercenary and really tried not to die. ;-)
Thank you so much! Will do some hardcore stuff, but I love playing pretty casually and having a laugh, and I'm normally watching tv or something too so get easily distracted.
@prophetezekiel keep up your good work. I really enjoy these runs. No idea how people can still watch those endgame builds or farming runs. It has to be a challenge. The more you suffer the more it is entertaining. 😊
Not using Merc is more interesting than HC imo, alot of these "bad skill playthrough" type videos end up turning into "can the desert mercenary solo hell (he can)", but alot of these skills are simply too weak or risky to play on HC without one That said I think you could've just stabbed the mobs to level 6, you're definitely gonna accidentally do some dagger basic attacks when PD runs you out of mana anyway lol
Really entertaining! A couple of pointers: you can deliberately keep just 1 gem in your personal inventory when tagging a shrine to upgrade that gem. Then you take your Perfect Ruby to make a Garnet Ring to solve some of your fire resistance problem. I always shop Fara for a 2-socket breastplate to make Stealth, rather than slower chainmail. Also, when you sell your gear in normal after an act boss, you can go to the next act first [e.g. your breastplate from Duriel may have gotten you 15000 in A3]. I couldn't tell, are you allowing yourself to use amp damage or not? And bone armor also from level 1 would help. Using shrines only, that's dedication for sure.
For poison dagger, it pretty much requires the "venom" skill, which is normally an assassin skill but can be acquired through the use of equipment. It has an odd interaction where using both Venom and Poison dagger in conjunction causes the poison to have the damage of the venom skill, which is extremely high, but the duration of the poison dagger skill, which is extremely long. Venom ordinarily has a duration of less than a second, which is the balance to it's high damage, so giving it the duration of the poison dagger becomes very potent.
You can continue this run to the Hell difficulty if you manage to get Treachery runeword on armor. It has (if isn't fixed) quite fun interaction of chanced cast of Assassin's Venom ability with Poison Dagger skill. Although poison-immune enemies can be really annoying.
I made some sheets and it seems like the optimal DPS is with skill_level=2* total_synergies_level. So with 24 SP, it's lvl 16 dagger with 8 in synergies for 111 DPS instead of 20+4 which is 105 DPS . The game may make one build look weaker than another, because poison DPS are added but poison duration is averaged (for melee ; ranged durations are added instead, but poison dagger is melees :'( ), then DPS is multiplied by duration. so if you have a high-damage, low-duration poison charm, your DPS will increase additively but your duration will decrease, so your total damage will go down. Maybe open wound is better than crushing blow ? Not sure.
Wonder if you've sat through the trap assassin playstyle for a video? There are a few, I really enjoyed a few ladder seasons of rushing an enigma and getting my hands on some of the cheapest skill GC's that were around lol
