    I found your channel several years ago due to your brother mentioning you. I have watched you off and on over the years. I don't know much about whiskey and just got some Redbreast 12 yo single pot whiskey for Christmas. I am a Jack Daniels/Jim Beam kind of guy. I didn't know I liked Irish Whiskey but it is quite good. As soon as I saw the bottle, I knew I had to check your channel to see if you had done a review for Redbreast. THANK YOU!

    RB12 is a wonderful dram for sure but my favorite of the available Pot Still Whiskeys is the Powers John's Lane 12. I believe the Powers uses the "heavier" of the available styles of Pot Still from Middleton.

    It's funny, I recall you mourning the Beam takeover of the Cooley distillery only 4 or 5 years ago as it was the last independent distillery in Ireland, but it's spurred on the opening of around 17 distilleries since then, with another 20 in planning. Most of these distilleries will be producing Pot Still. Teeling just release theirs last month. The next 10 to 15 years will be very exciting for Irish Whiskey.

      'Most of these distilleries will be producing Pot Still.'
      Where did you get that information?

      @@fredlabosch5164 Mostly in press releases.I can't really offer you one source for the lot but I do watch developments in the Irish industry very keenly, and most of them are producing Pot Still and of course Single Malts. Dingle and Teeling have just released their versions this year.

    • @fredlabosch5164
      @fredlabosch5164 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adammartin7007 Dingle and Teeling are the ones that I heard of as well.
      What do you think about their price tags, I mean, I have not yet spotted any official ones since I have only encountered the pot still varieties of them at online auction specialists, but...
      Do you think they're testing the market before they release the stuff for public shelves?

    • @sav7568
      @sav7568 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far the reference to pot still is a bit optimistic The only small distillery selling it is Teeling and even they are only on their first batch Dingle had a tiny release but it sold out in no time Maybe in a few years ?

    Awesome stuff! Ralfy was one of the inspirations for us starting our own channel. We reviewed this one 2 months ago, it's so good!
    I'll say it's my favorite of the easily attainable Irish Whiskeys. The Cask Strength is just delicious.

  • @xiamengbaby
    @xiamengbaby 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The cask strength is so close in price to the standard 80 proof bottling by me in the Chicago area (only $5-$10 difference) that it's a no-brainer to get the cask strength. So much more flavorful. This cask strength Redbreast is one I really feel benefits from a wee bit of water. More so than any other whisk(e)y I have had. Really allows the complex flavors to shine.

    This will be my next acquisition. I haven't had the standard 12 year but I don't really care to start there. Irish whiskey is my favorite, with distinct single malt Scotches being my second, if it weren't for price disparity otherwise it would be equal. Pot still whiskey will always hold a special place in my heart (even the blends). If it weren't for a friend giving me a single malt scotch that rocked my world, I wouldn't even have known what my favorite spirit is, because my first two experiences had corn alcohol in them which I cannot stand, and subsequently had me avoiding whiskey for 20 years. I also cannot stand peat. I wish I had a broader palette so that I could enjoy the flavors others are able to, but whatever. At least my preferences are readily available within my budget so I shouldn't complain.

      Weirdly enough the lower proof version of this whisky is harsher this version has a crazy good mouth feel. Most would say it is very smooth, i dont like that term as to me it sounds like its weak, this is no weak whisky but boy is it good in the mouth. First time i tried it i fell in love sadly i went to order it again thinking i was getting the same one turns out redbreast does 2 versions of this whisky they have a sherry finish version and a french oak version i sadly got the french oak version the second time which is also very good but doesnt have that great mouth feel and richness of this one.

      What is the meaning of this "between" of which you speak? 😁 Seriously, try one of each. Since the Irish will be spendy, try a cheap proven rye, i.e. Rittenhouse or Old Overholt BiB. Or one of the MGP: Ezra Brooks Rye, Rebel Yell Rye or Dickel Rye. Of course, can't go wrong with Wild Turkey or Woodford. Or Lot no. 40 Canadian.

    Hi Ralfy. It's that time of the year when Aldi release an old Whisky for a relatively affordable price. This year it's the Glen Marnoch 1988 at about £50. Last years releases got mixed reviews. I would be interested to know your views on this years release. I am tempted but would rather buy a younger malt that is a sure bet for that price. Is this one a gimmick or is there a decent level of value in respect to price and quality as well as age? In one respect I like that they are making an old Whisky accessible to the masses but £50 is still a sizeable outlay for a malt from an unknown source. Cheers!
