    I had the same opinion on Redbreast 12, bought it a while back, tried it and thought - eh did I really spend almost 50$ o n this? About a month or two later I tried it again and realized this was what everyone was raving about. Great review and interesting/happy to hear someone else had a similar exp. Thanks Bill!

    I found the Woodford Double Oak also benefited from opening and leaving for a few weeks.

    Actually.... Redbreast dates back to 10,000 BC when Ancient Alien Astronauts arrived In Ireland and taught the secrets of distillation to the primitive humanoids. However, it was originally used to produce fuel for their spaceships and it wasn’t until centuries later that the Irish used it to make whiskey, the first was called Redbreast because the alien women had red hooters.

    Feeling single pot, I nosed a dram fresh out of a freshly opened bottle and was at first horrified; but I returned a week later and after letting it sit a bit before drinking it showed up deliciously ;)

  • @shengyang021185
    @shengyang021185 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are correct buddy! This must sit and be allowed to breath! After the neck is where it changes! The 12 is a great step towards great irish whiskey. But let it sit and let your nose explore it first

  • @guitarswhiskeyandgolf

    I had the same experience with Glen Morangie Quinta Ruban 14 when I bought it and tasted it i did not like it. I tied it again a month later and still did not like it but had a couple drams. Now 3 months later as it really has opened up I love it. The nose and the flavors just came together and rounded out and now it's a beauty but it had to sit after opening for a good 3 to 4 months

    Huge pot still fan. Specifically in American whiskey and bourbon. Willet might be my favorite. Definitely not as impressed by Powers 12, but I will say I slightly enjoy the Redbreast 12 more. I really want to like them, I just still get a “young” taste when I try either.

    Redbreast 12 is wonderful stuff but be warned boys and girls it can be very seductive. It is the only whisky I know that doesn't taste like whisky rather it comes across as a sweet, luscious, syrupy ice cream topping. It definitely carries that unique to pot still viscous mouth feel. If not careful you might wind up drinking more than you wanted because it really is that good. Alternatively, you might just be tempted to pour some over your ice cream. Go easy on the water.

    Haven't tried the regular RB 12, but the 12 cask strength is everything you'd want Irish whiskey to be, but on steroids. Bonkers. The lustau is a sherry bomb, and although excellent, I think all the sherry takes away from the best parts of what defines an Irish whiskey. Cheers Bill

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I saw that while researching this one.. it looked limited edition so I didn't bring it up as a core range. Boy does it look good though

    • @davidgeschke4247
      @davidgeschke4247 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seems to be regarded as a limited edition bottling by the press, and the “the range” section of Redbreast’s website doesn’t list it, as is the case with their other limited editions. But the press release quotes that “Redbreast 27 Year Old will join Redbreast 12, 15 , 21 Year Old and Lustau, taking its position at the head of the family”. I’d say the plan is to fully implement the 27 Year Old as a core range offering if they can match demand.

    Another whisky that changes dramatically after being open a couple weeks (or even a couple days) is Balcones's smoked whisky, Brimstone. When newly opened, it has an aggressive rubber note on the nose (which I actually don't mind), but it disappears really quickly.

    You have to be very critical of Who's producing what and why!!! I have just opened and sampled Redbreast 12 and I'm VERY pleasantly surprised to find it delicious and quite complex, and yet 'complex' is really a distraction, If you're truly objective, you'll review your judgment, and have yet another blind taste. I did, and found it's nature to be well worth the $50 I paid for it! It's, summarily, delicious though slightly pricey!
