You said it, man. Nothing is more reprehensible and lame-brained than when people defend crap by saying, "It's just a show. It's just a movie. It's just entertainment," as if standards of excellence don't exist anymore.
Excellence shmectalence, nothing is more reprehensible and lame-brained than when people defend crap by saying, "It's just a show. It's just a movie. It's just entertainment," ignoring the rampant anti-male / anti-white-male lgbtqaxyz propaganda they're shoving down your fanboy throat.
I have noticed how the modern Star Trek series like Discovery and Picard putting out woke crap and nonsensical content which contradicts canon and characterization, and mentioned this to my older brother, who is a ST fan and still watches these series, who only says, "it's just entertainment". Then I realized his standards are really like normies and no longer want to raise up these issues to him anymore. But one rhing I did notice, he never puts the modern series on repeat viewings, only series back from Next Generation to Enterprise.
When I think of normie, I think of that woman on dating show The Button who was asked if she likes Marvel movies, and her response was “No, I don’t really like anime”
This is so true, normies are the reason we can't have nice things. They slurp up any kind of trash as long as it's flashy, and maybe if the media tells them it is good product and/or they're evil if they dislike it.
At the Xmas meal with mates I was sat next to one of my oldest mates who, like me, is a proper LOTR/Silmarillion nerd. We only get to see each other a few times a year so when we do we inevitably get really drunk, laugh a bunch, and then end up chatting about Tolkien. This year it was brilliant. We tore RoP to absolute shreds, laughing at some of our favourite shitty moments, characters and plot holes. A while into this conversation a few of my other mates heard what we were talking about and butted in "What? It was sooo good!". We looked at each other and just cracked up. Within 20 minutes we had all of them going "yeah actually, that part was shit / that made no sense / that was boring / I didn't understand that either". These are the same mates who ostracised me for saying at the start of S6 GoT that it's all going to shit, and then carried on rinsing S7 and 8 as they came out. I also walked out of Force Awakens after the mega Death Star did the blowy-uppy thing on like 6 planets. It was just so shit, and they just wouldn't accept it. Years later they all twigged that I was right. "Normies" lol. A term I was not previously aware of... Thanks for giving me a name for these types of people Jonny lol. And Happy New Year, all the best for 2023.
So I'm not the only one who thought that Death Star beam splitting up into heat seeking missiles and hitting several planets at once made no sense. I feel like that always gets overlooked.
When I was in highschool a bare handful of other kids played D&D. We were mocked and ridiculed. Now EVERYONE claims they played D&D. It probably bugs me more than it should.
You hit the point, the worst about normies is their fucking indifference towards anything that isn't their mainstream media certified consumer products.
I had this happen to me with anime. I was in middle school in the mid 2000's and there were some kids at school that I thought were REALLY cool that were into anime, so I tried to get into anime. I didn't really have anywhere to watch, but I tried to get my hands on what little I could. But I was always teased so badly for being into anime that eventually I just dropped it. And now anime is freaking MASSIVE and I know so many of my adult peers who used to make fun of me for it that are posting all the time about "this great new anime that I'm into!" ..... yeah.
Fooking brilliant! This is the exact, THE EXACT, conversations I had with my mates. Nerds, all of us, through and through. All of us old enough to remember the days when people were laughing at us for having such "weird hobbies" (Tabletop Games, RPGs, Video Games, etc.), who mocked our interests (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Action etc.) and belittled our stories for being "childish" and stupid (Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer, Conan the Barbarian, Lord of the Rings, Dune, the hundreds of amazing video game franchises, the hundreds of amazing sci-fi novels, the hundreds of amazing comic-book franchises etc.). The very same people who mocked us in our childhood now proudly proclaim that they go watch EVERY Marvel movie and EVERY Star Wars movie, that they LOVE Star Trek ("no not the old stuff, the stuff that J.J.Abrahms made") and tell us how 'problematic' certain stuff is. It is infuriating!!!! Despite all that I agree with in your video, there is a small point I would like to disagree with and I find it rather important. It is something that me and my mates talked about too. It is this: "Nerds become nerds, because they are cast out everywhere else." I am not sure how much that belongs together. Were alot of nerds bullied? Certainly. Me included. Yet, I don't think that this statement is fully true. Alot of us nerds, are nerds, because we LOVE nerdy shit. We love these franchises, these stories, these games and these conversations. We love to argue and bicker over lore, spend hours watching explanation videos on TH-cam for our favourite video game and we rather spend our friday evenings playing video games, watching movies, reading books, playing tabletop or RPGing, then go out and get shitfaced. It isn't because "we weren't invited to the party". It's because we rather want to spend time doing what we enjoy than waste it with people that give us little to no enjoyment. Now, that isn't ot say that we nerds don't like raising the roof and partying down. Of course we do. And we all having hours, days, weeks, months, even years away from our hobbies, but we will always return to them eventually. Nerds come in all shapes and forms. We really have only one thing in common. Our passion for something that has been proclaimed "nerdy" by people who think our hobbies are "weird". We are not connected on a deeper personality level, but we are connected in an incredibly deep level when it comes to our passion. I had mates who could kick the shit out of ANY athlete (mostly because they were athletes themselves) but who would enjoy nothing more than to sit down and watch the newest anime. I had mates who were close to genius-level smart, but couldn't for the life of them, win a game of Axis&Allies. I had shy friends and loud friends, akward and cool friends. All united under the umbrella term "nerd". We were truly colorful in our appearance and personality, but when it came down to play a round of Shadowrun, we all sat together and rolled some dice. Did some of the guys walk out mid-session to be with some girl? Did some crave for the attention from the "popular kids"? Yeah, sure, but for the most part, the guys would have told the hot girl or the popular gang to get bent, if they would have interrupted them, while they were doing their "nerdy-shit". They simply enjoyed, and are enjoying doing it. We need to realize that we aren't the caricatures that Big Bang Theory wants us to be. That normies and the general population wants us to be. We are just as normal as all of these people. We just willingly forgoe much of our free-time to partake in a hobby that is deeply satisfying to us. Always remember: It was the outsiders who proclaimed "Well, when you have these hobbies, you must be weird and smelly and akward. You therefore must be a nerd". It just isn't true. Most of us don't give a flying fuck about being popular or cool. We could, but seriously... who has the time, ae?
I always love finding newer channels like this that somehow manage to produce content on par with or better than channels with hundreds of thousands of subs. Finding an angry British diamond in the TH-cam algorithm rough. Got yourself a new sub, my dude.
Yeah the whole normies coming in and ruining something is pretty much the death kneel for anything and it's now sadly also happening to anime now. A once rather niche entertainment genre which has now exploded in the last 15 or 20 years. The anime fandom as a whole is welcome and friendly but we've started getting the articles called Japanese anime studios ists and phobes mainly due to the fact that most of their stories are focused for the Japanese audience so often the majority of their characters have a Japanese origin. Like I'm sure everyone has heard of Attack on Titan or My Hero Academia etc. The thing is though you can tell a normie when they never stray too far from what everyone is recommending. I personally got it into anime through a friend and once I got into it. I started exploring every show to see what I enjoy and I got quickly hooked into the amount of amazing ideas and shows they have to offer. The Japanese as a whole doesn't really care about the foreign market. Of course that's starting to shift now with western companies throwing their money round. Yes we've started to get the whole diversity angle too with normies screaming about a lack of it and I can tell they are not fans as there are so many anime with characters from all different ways of life and countries. I can recommend several shows with a huge diverse range of characters. Of course it also depends on how you define the word. If you define diversity purely by a characters skin tone or place of birth than honestly you live a sad existence. I personally see diversity as characters with different opinions, motivations, backstories, personalities etc. I couldn't care less about their place of origin or skin tone but if you really need me to list some shows that are to their standards of diverse every well I shall do so. Black Lagoon, Great Pretender, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Vinland Saga, Jormungard, Soul Eater, Berserk, Helsing Ultimate, Kengan Ashura, Baki, Record of Ragnarok and more. Each of these shows fit their criteria of being diverse with people being from different countries and cultures. If instead you define the word by having characters that aren't just defined by their places of origin then check out shows like Made in Abyss, Assassination Classroom, Mushou Tensei, Re:Zero and I could go on for a while. The point I'm making is that I think the word diverse has been corrupted by these people.
Bro I feel you I have watched them all and normies love To Rub their Ds with Dragon balls man I hate how anime is going like man its getting tame now like WTF
Haha all of the yes! Bandwagon hoppers really do just leave destruction in their paths. Its awesome to see the channel growing! Pretty soon you're going to run out of breath by the time you finish reading off the list of members! :D
Jonny you really put everything into perspective holy hell. It really is like you say. We opened the gate, and now they’re inside and using subterfuge to fuck the OGs over. Honestly, I write fanfic (no not the weird kind) and when I watch these shows as a SELF TAUGHT AMATEUR writer I come up with better scenes and storylines than they do on the fly. How do these people have jobs?!
@@richardfurness7556 Nah. There are suddenly too many jobs in Hollyweird. So the feeding system for talent is strained. These people aren’t really connected so much as socially adept at integrating themselves into the right cliques. They are often from the area or went to school here but they know a few ins. I’d wager though few of these are actually trained film students or trained writers. Rather they are PolySci, Psychology and Communications majors that lucked out and got their foot in the door as backend content creators. The lady who did SheHulk did something called “Pickle Rick” which was some kind of filmed skit that really makes no sense but it was marginally well put together these are Skit comics and Improv people trying to do High Fantasy drama and Science Fiction or Superhero fantasies which are supposed to be morality plays. Diversity though is their cover. They know they are out of their depth so the social issues give them cover and make their bosses immune to Twitter pressure. It’s a win/win except when the general public all agrees something sucks OR the lead actor walks out because it’s all so shoddy.
I have read fanfic (yes, the weird kind) with way better and more engaging storylines that a lot of things we've seen in '22 and '21 come to the screens.
@@cy-one that’s true as well, I’ve read weird fanfic that is more compelling as well. It’s crazy how unpaid writers doing it as a hobby can do better than paid pros. But, I suppose Jonny goes over that in his video as well with these people actually being fans
As a nerd I feel like Norman Osborne when he got kicked from his own company. Once they mocked us for our passion, now we are on top of the world. Now they want the whole pie. Be gone normies, go back to your boring lives!
Never respond to provocation with anger, it's what they're looking for to "prove their point". Mock them relentlessly & laugh loudly. And vote with your money/views. Hit their bottom line & if they still don't listen then eventually they won't have the bank balance to make anything at all 🤷♀️
@@MadMaz1983 I'm just saying both things lead to the same outcome, so it's ironic to say avoid one while advocating the other. They will surely read downright anger very similarly to mockery. If they're looking to make you angry to prove a point, then inciting you into mockery and rudeness will prove the same, or at least similar enough, point. Anyway, idk, whatever, you do you. Just seemed counter intuitive to me.
it perfectly normal to get angry. voting with your wallet doesnt work when you got a countless sea of morons waiting to eat up any shit they are served. and even pre-order the shit. twice, maybe more times. normies kill everything they touch. our only hope is to pick up the pieces once everything has been ruined.
sometimes it's okay to respond with anger... a pointed "you're a fucking idiot" is more than warranted these days. The problem with a lot of normies is that they're so painfully unaware they are fucking idiots, which means they never try to improve....
i had a similair take not long ago about internet and geek/nerd culture. all was better when 'the basement' dwellers where the only once consuming geeke/nerdy/weird content and talking about them on message boards/early internet. I miss it. lol
I learned the necessity, and utility, of gatekeeping when I was a teenager. I played Magic and 40k(Victorus aut Mortis) and made a few friends at a nearby gaming store that I could walk to. Well, eventually, we had formed something a group of about 10-12 people(I know, pretty big) within which we could find other people to play against, we could group up for LARPing or paintball, and we, over time, shared the individual games we played so that by the end(spoiler) we all basically played or RP’ed all the same games, with most allowing others to borrow their figures for war/board games. We had a really, really good thing going for several years. We could, regularly, get 8 or more guys, who gave a shit, together with a pretty good old head DM and a reasonable younger DM, who got better over time, learned a lot from the older guy and took suggestions, for campaigns of D&D, Dark Heresy, Pathfinder, Inquisitor, Shadowrunner, Cyberpunk, Rogue Trader, Arkham Horror, Call of Cthulhu, Homebrew, and a fair few others. One homebrew Pathfinder campaign lasted a bit more than a year, meeting once a week, and I’ll never forget it. Then she arrived. There were girls at the game shop, the mother figure who co-owned the game shop, and peoples’ sister’s who were a bit curious, but they weren’t around much. This girl stuck around. She was dating one of the guys in our group, alias: Erik, it was starting to get serious, they’d just moved in together, and I guess she decided that if he was going to be gone once a week, she wanted to know why. At first, no problems. She seemed super excited, asked questions, seemingly wanted to know everything, but she retained next to nothing. She had come to a few Magic and 40k tourneys we’d put on, but she didn’t seem all that enthused, what she really wanted was to come to one of our game nights just to see what was so interesting. We had a large enough group and a good thing going so we kept saying no, but idk, I guess she really let Erik have it and he talked to the DM, so she came with Erik on our next game night. It was a little awkward at first, Erik wanted to let her make a character, while most of us, including the DM, thought it better she just watch since we were in the middle of a story. She watched for a bit, but our game nights were pretty long, so she got bored after about an hour, and asked Erik to take her home. So we all just let her role a leveled character, with certain limitations, and left Erik to take care of her. Well, one night turned into every game night real quick, for months. She was a pain as a player, constantly trying to meta game, munchkin(with Erik’s help), and not learning the setting. She would purposefully try to derail the DM’s stories in ways that were really just annoying, not clever, she constantly asked for legendary items, bending the rules on magical items, rerolls, out of class skills, and she never fully learned how the rules worked, not sure she tried, really slowed everything down. The worst part, though, was that she was very clearly “above it all” sometimes making fun of other people for getting into their character….I mean, if you think of that one fucking person, you know what I’m talking about. Apparently that was nothing, though, only the prelude. As she got more comfortable she started telling people what Erik was supposedly saying about them behind their backs, gaining confidences, then pitting group members against each other. She brought politics into both the shop and the gaming nights, constantly talking about how we were all sexists that were just too ignorant to understand we were sexists. That it wasn’t really our fault, that our white supremacist, male dominated society made us this way, but that we had to change. Shed bitch about certain games, saying they were racist, sexist, and championed evil politics, getting a couple guys to stop playing them and join in on her condemnation, including Erik, who became very political. Anytime one person would challenge her, two more would defend her. She used to love touching on guys, especially ones that had probably never kissed a girl before, loved making them feel wanted, yet awkward, and then making fun of them for it. She liked touching on a couple other guys for different reasons. She eventually started cheating on Erik with two guys in the group, who were good friends with each other, inseparable really, at the same time. Well, one day one of them caught the girl kissing his best friend behind the shop one day when Erik wasn’t there, and they got into a fight in the parking lot. Well, of course everybody in the shop then found out, so Erik found out, and…..didn’t break up with her. She had told him…whatever she told him, and he believed it. Erik still hated the two guys, though, thinking they were lying about his girlfriend, so he quit the group. The two best friends couldn’t be at game night together. They’d make the night so awkward, they’d insult each other, even came to blows once, so the rest of us had to figure out whether to pick one or boot them both, and we ended up booting them both since they just refused to reconcile. The girlfriend had brought in a couple of her friends a couple weeks earlier, who basically all did something similar; flirting with guys, hooking up with different guys at the same time, generally getting guys to start doing what guys do to earn girls’ attention. Guys who had never cared for politics suddenly became ardent environmentalists, SJW’s, feminists, etc and made sure everybody else knew it. It also meant that Erik’s girlfriend would sometimes come around and start trouble. Members of our group started fighting with each other over the girls, chasing, dating, cheating, and the politics, which some bought into, and others refused to, which then brought out all of that petty little shit that happens over the course of years as well. Things went from political to personal very quickly. Everybody started hating each other. Our game group split, then fractured, and eventually dissolved entirely ending five years of game nights. Guys stopped coming to the shop, too, including myself, because it was just such a toxic, awful place to be. Guys can pull this shit, too, especially the political mind virus aspect, but women have a special talent for fucking with men’s heads. Maybe if we had talked with Erik near the start, when we figured out his girlfriend wasn’t into the games as much as causing trouble, if we had stopped her before she became too integrated, gatekept her, then things may have turned out differently….
While my ex turned out to be horrible, I was able to actually bring her into my friend game group. She actively participated and actually brought us into things like Danganronpa and Soul Caliber
@@lordhellstrande2763 I’ve had similar experiences with my exes, tbh, and that’s really how it should work. Again, it’s really more about picking up on the crazy, political, or crazy political ones and excising them before they can wreak havoc. People tell you who they are if you let them. I’m big on trying to get people interested in what I like, including them as much as possible, so, I find myself very conflicted on gatekeeping sometimes. Looking back on it, this girl was throwing out bad signs almost from the get go, but only the older DM picked up on them at the time. None of us really believed him when he told us what could happen, it was just so….ridiculous, until it wasn’t. These days, I generally believe it’s better to be careful and vet, or even exclude some people rather than let that one person who delights in manipulating people come in and wreck relationships. I even know a guy who lost his marriage because they let his wife’s sister’s husband into their group and he just gaslit the hell out of people, lying, causing all kinds of arguments and fights, guilting people into defending him, refusing to speak to them unless they picked his side, getting other family members involved. It was apparently a mess, got totally out of hand, and the wife decided her relationship with her sister was more important than the one with her husband. Apparently the wife later figured out the real source of the problem and they’re currently reconciling, but, it was nearly two years of lonely misery over nothing, and it destroyed a lot of trust.
Man I love your vids Jonny, you got production value that rivals channels with 10x your subs. Thanks for making content for us, it's immensely entertaining in an otherwise bleak and dreary age of online media.
One caveat: TRULY great works are what converts "normies" >into> fans! Plenty of folks who'd never picked up a Tolkien book were enthralled by PJ's masterful trilogy, and retroactively became LOTR fans.
This is why I’ve stopped racing to watch anything that goes main stream or is made by a big company. While I can recognize that somethings aren’t made for me (and that’s ok), I do get frustrated when someone says “Omg that show was so amazing” and I watch it’s and it’s just “aiight”. Personal example, when Edgerunners came out everyone and their grandmother was singing it’s praises, I watched it and it was decent but that’s about it. It not anything mind blowing that will inspire me for years to come. I love Dragon Age but the moment I saw Netflix was going to release yet another cash grab animated series I knew it was going to be cringe pandering marketing for game company that hasn’t released a new game in years. That’s all it is at this point. Edgerunners was just another attempt for CDPR to lend out their IP in hopes that the anime can lure in people to buy 2077. The moment I realized that I started avoid any borrowed IP crap. It’s never going to be as good as original, it’s just a soulless cash grab to lure in people with low tastes and no knowledge of the OG material
@@otakugamer616 my issue with it was it wasn’t long enough to make me actually care. I’ve played the video game and I’ve also played the TTRPG and dying is regular occurrence in NC so I didn’t really feel sad. Plus the plot is so played out and I hate that out of everyone Lucy, who is the most boring and annoying character, is the one that got to live and have her happy ending. It was extremely predictable to me and the only character I liked was Rebecca so by the time it ended I was bored and disappointed
This is the exact same change I saw within IT as well since I started studying it in 2016. As IT became more popular and more mainstream, the nerds who had been sitting in their basements picking apart computers and learning C were ousted. More normies were roaming the halls of the university building, and the people who would previously go there were stuck at home watching the lecture over Zoom because they didn’t feel at home anymore. It’s such a shame it’s hard to exist side by side.
What does that person mean with "death in the game meas less becausr its just watching pixels die"???? Doesnt he knows that TV works with pixels too? Or maybe he thinks that when a character dies in a movie they actually kill the actor that is playing the character?? Wth
This exact.same.thing happened to me Jonny. Like the new show supposedly based in Tolkien's work, there was another IP being "redone" lately that the blood boil for us real fans as opposed to the normies you discuss here. For YEARS, us diehard Anne Rice fans and specifically her much MUCH beloved "Vampire Chronicles" had been waiting for a TV show. From the very start, the showrunners said things like "Yes, we know her work." and "Yes, the fans have our solemn promise to stick to the actual text." Instead, what did we get? Something totally UNRECOGNIZABLE to the actual story. They were supposed to begun with book 2 for the show (The Vampire Lestat) bc the original film is already put there AND accepted as Canon. Did they do that? Nope! And when we finally got to see what they did, we'll, let's just say that us "diehard fans" were entirely disappointed and when we aired our grievances; many of us including me were given all the IST and OBE labels available and then kicked OUT of those forums! Tall about "normies!" OMG! It was and will remain a nightmare for us and now I can no longer watch and enjoy said show bc why? Well, they broke all of their promises to the REAL fan base to appease the masses who may or may not ever have read a single word on the actual page. 😭😭😭 Thanks for this one Jonny, I appreciate it. Your newest sub and bitch. Take care. Aszneth @JonnyLawYT
Your video once again is 100% on point. I'm growing sick and tired of mediocrity. And when you say the industry "tries to please everyone", well in the process they make passionate people like me miserable. I like to play a video game that challenges me, not a game that holds my hand and tells me what to do. I really hope Elden Ring's success will make a major shift in the gaming industry, the only AAA game in 2022 that didn't hold the player's hand. Yes, Elden Ring is much more casual friendly than Dark Souls, but well, at least it didn't hold your hand too much.
Wonderfully put. I was just recenq discussing Kenobi with a friend who is a casual Star Wars fan. She enjoyed it and was surprised to hear I didn't. Thankfully she does understand my position because Marvel is to her what Star Wars is to me.
Just want to add that just like how corporations uses normies to shield themselves, so does the --phobes. They will use legitimate dissatisfaction to point toward things like “hey diversity bad, maybe black people shouldn’t exist”. We should try to combat both things, especially if people might get hurt too
I remember seeing highly rated comment that was essentially "I liked Rings of Power. It was fun. My only two complaints are that Dwarf Women didn't have beards and Galadriel should have been taller". So after watching 8 hours of RoP, their only issues with it are perhaps the single most trivial lore break in the show (which I doubt they knew about before the reaction to Disa's actress) and a characters height. How do you even begin to take their opinion seriously? They define "Tolkien fan" as someone who has nothing bad to say about Rings of Power, I define it as someone who can find plenty to criticize about the Jackson trilogy despite really enjoying it.
My significant other, who is not really into Tolkien, said he liked the ROP. He was a little upset with me when, at the scene which the writers and directors obviously meant to be the most dramatic scene of the last episode, I burst out laughing when I saw Sauron and Galadriel scream at each other. It was just so ridiculous, especially Galadriel who looked like a 14 year old who just ghad her phone taken away. But even he complained about all the main characters not being harmed by the volcanic eruption while walking through the field of people being burned and buried alive. Even normies have their limits. 😂
Great video! I really enjoy your incisive and unapologetic thinking, as well as the witty delivery. Even your reviews of awful shows are enjoyable. I mean that in the sense that even though the shows are dull, repulsive or both, your style makes for entertaining reviews.
Tell you what man. I only discovered your channel recently and I honestly enjoy your videos almost as much and often times more than Nerdrotics or Disparu.
Yes, I have previously replied to youtube videos on this subject with the following comparison: The situation is like a kid bringing his favorite toys to school to play with at recess. During recess, bullies come along and grab those toys. They begin mashing the faces of characters together, like maybe Batman and Robin, for instance. One of them takes some markers and changes the toys' appearances. They mockingly make those toys "say" really dumb things that are entirely out of character and actively mock the material they came from. Now, these bullies have control of making new "official" media with the characters, not just playing with toys on a playground.
I don't even feel bad for gatekeeping and using the word "normie" anymore after seeing how normies usually sh*t on my interests constantly, then get it on the train when it gets popular. If you're a beginner and are interested in the subject you're trying to get into, smth we have in common, I'm more open to interact with you, but I usually don't directly interact with the fandoms I'm in, especially as a beginner bcs of the stigma of being an "all consuming" normie, when I'm actually looking into being a fan and developing a hobby. One of the reasons I'm not on twt is bcs it's an infuriating space and I'm not willing to let my sanity go just so I can possibly find people interested in smth with a cult following that's sheltered from the world.
Happy 2023 my guy! Happy to see another video! Love the yu-gi-oh reverence for diversity. Somehow the idea that the "always cheating" Yugi Motto pulls the last piece of his "Diversity cards" and auto-wins the game seems very accurate to how modern day movies and shows are being made.
This is another TH-camr I have subscribed to and honestly he’s 100% correct on this many other franchises that I grew up with had interesting and learned quite a bit about the lore have been dismantled and destroyed by Hollywood and Normies
Really love your vibes Jonny - even though the video topic was more serious this time around, your delivery still put me in a good mood as it always does! And agreed on every point.
Yes yes a 1000 times yes! Glad the algorithm led me to your channel. Never thought I'd miss the days when I was a weirdo for wanting to rush home after school to watch anime on toonami. Let's hope Mr. Cavill can help us out of Witcher mourning and bring us some quality 40k content 🤞🏼
I highly suggest reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Theorie of Stupidity" enabling "evil" through passive disinterest, selfishness, illiteracy and lazyness .
A Venn diagram?! I dunno, this is getting too intellectual for me. Nah but seriously, you're right. Normies don't understand how ppl can be truly passionate about things and devoted to quality.
It's funny that youtube recommends me your "Why Did The Ob-Wan Series Flop?" video and I can't tell the difference between the camera you're using now and the one you're using 2 months ago. >:)
yes the entertainment industry has shown itself to have disdain for word of mouth advertising sacrificing it on the alter of "the message", because "the message" is more important then the paying customers they already have who would of freely advertised a well made adaptation.
“ Fans cannot be pleased” Strange, because before they started trying to please normies the fans were fine. Your analogy on the guy who bullied you for watching Star Wars now trying to bully you for not watching it, is perfectly sums up why these hobbies die thanks to normies lol
Movies are watching people pretending to die. Humans can emotionally connect more with games b because we invest in them. Eg that npc who helped us out of a jam has a direct emotional connection to us
Your diagram overlapping Normies and Fans weirded me. But you had me at Normies Cause Pain and even harder at Normies vs Outcasts. May your new camera serve you well.
Be valued by your merits no matter the race/gender or anything else is not diversity, its Meritocracy and its the true a and only equality we should strive for. Diversity is product of this process. Forced diversity is pure evil and opposite of Meritocracy. Where you ARE valued by your race/gender but NOT by your merit.
Game deaths = pixel dying = 0 impact Movie deaths = living people playing dead with paint + chocolate = 0 impact Play deaths = living people playing dead with no fake blood = 0 impact Book deaths = bunch of words describing death = 0 impact Gladiatorial fights = ppl actually dying= 100 impact Thts basically how I saw tht video game comment by the last of us guy 🤣🤣🤣
The normies that are glorifying avatar right now are pretty annoying. I had someone tell me that the villain in avatar who died in the first movie should have been brought back for no good reason because.... HE'S JUST AS GOOD AS DARTH VADER . I had to go take a smoke break to calm down after that one
To be fair I can see the appeal of Avatar. Chris Gore put it succinctly on a recent Critical Drinker podcast where he had some good points. I’ve not seen it but the way he described it it harkens back to a time when a bad movie was still watchable because you could turn your brain off and enjoy, instead of modern world politics pulling you out of it
I was a bit skeptical about how you would define normies, but I think you've hit the nail on the head. You correctly separate the GP from Normies. The GP may watch the same products, but they're not typically the ones going online to defend trash adaptions or actively usurp fan culture and shape it into their desired image.
5:05 There's been a lot of controversy over this, but I think Mazin has been taken massively out of context. In the original article, he is specifically talking about opposing NPC deaths during gameplay, and so his points don't apply to emotional moments in games like Sarah's death. Basically, if you are always respawning and killing the same enemies over and over, it grows less and less impactful to do so. This is especially true if you're bad at stealth games(like me), where I often do the same level so many times that I'm mostly playing on autopilot by the end. While this element is a normal part of playing games, it's not something you want to replicate in a TV show, hence Mazin's comment. Could he have worded it better? Of course, but that doesn't mean he hates video games as a whole.
I’ve been enjoying your content for some time now. Make me laugh a lot each video ! Thank you! Thought it was time to start giving back, so I’ve become one of your patreons !! “You biiitch!” Hahaha
You said it, man. Nothing is more reprehensible and lame-brained than when people defend crap by saying, "It's just a show. It's just a movie. It's just entertainment," as if standards of excellence don't exist anymore.
they dont.
maybe some people need some random images in the background with random background music while doing some particular chore around the house.
Right. If you went to a fancy restaurant and they gave you beans on toast would that be ok? Well it's just food. It's just sustenance.
That's brilliant, just proves how shallow their thinking is.. can't be more obvious here! Lol

Wasn't that Dildo Shaggins?🤣
You hit the point, the worst about normies is their fucking indifference towards anything that isn't their mainstream media certified consumer products.
Make Gatekeeping Great Again!!!
Bingo. Once the woke idiot's get in, that's exactly what they do
May we ever be vigilant and our will always strong!
We are scholars and connoisseurs of the things we care about.
The Gates should have stayed closed. We let The Flood in and The Flood consumed our world

Absolutely
I had this happen to me with anime. I was in middle school in the mid 2000's and there were some kids at school that I thought were REALLY cool that were into anime, so I tried to get into anime. I didn't really have anywhere to watch, but I tried to get my hands on what little I could. But I was always teased so badly for being into anime that eventually I just dropped it. And now anime is freaking MASSIVE and I know so many of my adult peers who used to make fun of me for it that are posting all the time about "this great new anime that I'm into!" ..... yeah.
It's true that ALL the fans will never be pleased, but there's a difference between not please all fans and not pleasing ANY fan 😂
It is this:
"Nerds become nerds, because they are cast out everywhere else." I am not sure how much that belongs together.
This is one of your best videos to date. Been with you since your first two weeks. Very well said Jonny.
I write fan fics and have read fan fics Better then the source thos 100k+ word ones
They have well connected parents. Strings were pulled, favours called in.
Hit their bottom line & if they still don't listen then eventually they won't have the bank balance to make anything at all 🤷♀️
Don't respond in anger, but mock them and laugh at them? Right, surely that doesn't "prove their point" at all.
@Jay Kay There's always someone who thinks having a sense of humour for the absurd is as bad as being an -ist or a -phobe
Kevin Smith has also stated he hated HeMan
i had a similair take not long ago about internet and geek/nerd culture. all was better when 'the basement' dwellers where the only once consuming geeke/nerdy/weird content and talking about them on message boards/early internet. I miss it.
@@rtsiii5404 gatekeeping is a fine line to walk, but it does its job to keep things running smooth
Man I love your vids Jonny, you got production value that rivals channels with 10x your subs.
Thanks for making content for us, it's immensely entertaining in an otherwise bleak and dreary age of online media.
It’s an honour my dude, you take care
I can see you on some critical drinker and nerdrotic streams in the not too distant future, good stuff.
I’d love that! I love seeing my favourite creators collaborate
Critical drinker, yes. The other one….. 🤐
@Marit They stream together weekly, are good friends and have alot of the same opinions.
Critical Drinker is a moron who misses the point of movies nonstop.
One caveat: TRULY great works are what converts "normies" >into> fans! Plenty of folks who'd never picked up a Tolkien book were enthralled by PJ's masterful trilogy, and retroactively became LOTR fans.
Man called us "armpit" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cyberpunk anime it made me cry as a Stand alone its great in 10 Episode and it was a journey but I will say I am not into games I am a anime nerd tho
I would like to add that an NPC is someone who says what they've been programmed to say. Their thoughts and actions are predictable and manufactured.
This needs to be seen by more people. Excellent argument.
You're a natural. Keep going Jonny.
What does that person mean with "death in the game meas less becausr its just watching pixels die"???? Doesnt he knows that TV works with pixels too? Or maybe he thinks that when a character dies in a movie they actually kill the actor that is playing the character?? Wth
Sean Bean disproves that a bit, doesn't he?
i think he thinks that video games are still 8 bit pixels💀💀
Nice analysis, Jonny, couldn't have put it better myself.
😭😭😭
Thanks for this one Jonny, I appreciate it.
Your newest sub and bitch. Take care.

@JonnyLawYT
Camera looks the same. Found you last night and love your stuff. Cheers.
Congrats on the new camera!
Looks the same to me tho.
Bro, even I didnt know I was tier 2 lol. I wasnt looking at the screen when I heard you say my name and it spooked me! 🤣
Tell you what man. I only discovered your channel recently and I honestly enjoy your videos almost as much and often times more than Nerdrotics or Disparu.
Yes, I have previously replied to youtube videos on this subject with the following comparison:
The situation is like a kid bringing his favorite toys to school to play with at recess.
I've been saying this for years. And I 100 percent agree with you/
Excellent video! You've said everything I've always thought but never had the words to say! Well done!
Dude..
KEEP THAT THING GROWING.
go full handlebars. Carnival style.
You'll kill it
This is another TH-camr I have subscribed to and honestly he’s 100% correct on this many other franchises that I grew up with had interesting and learned quite a bit about the lore have been dismantled and destroyed by Hollywood and Normies
Normie consumer slops.
Really love your vibes Jonny - even though the video topic was more serious this time around, your delivery still put me in a good mood as it always does! And agreed on every point.
You get my thumbs up for the shirt alone 😆, now I'll watch the video.
Yu-gi-oh is life.
We are angry at reimagined classic IPs because it is bait and switch. I ordered a steak and got a salad instead. Unacceptable!
Thank you, Jonny! More people have to see this video!
This was perceptive and insightful. Excellent upload.
Somebody finally made a comprehensive video explaining the process in CAPITALS. Thx, man💪🏼✨
in summary: after10 h of work 5 hours of live streaming, 1 bottle of champagne, i still prefer to watch this guy than to sleep
THANK YOU!!!
And this how wars begin.
Might as well have told me not to push the button 😂
Tlou is definitely going to be shit.
I highly suggest reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Theorie of Stupidity" enabling "evil" through passive disinterest, selfishness, illiteracy and lazyness .
Excellently put 👍
But when yt loads this vid on my phone at 360 does a 4k camera matter? LOL!!!!
your new camera really brings out the colour of your zits
I'd hate you but it's so true
Well I HADN'T noticed until now! 😆
A Venn diagram?! I dunno, this is getting too intellectual for me.
Nah but seriously, you're right. Normies don't understand how ppl can be truly passionate about things and devoted to quality.
You have spoken wisely on this subject earning a like and a comment.
It's funny that youtube recommends me your "Why Did The Ob-Wan Series Flop?" video and I can't tell the difference between the camera you're using now and the one you're using 2 months ago. >:)
You’re doing the lords work here Jonny! 😂
Because TH-cam shows video previews I expected this to be about YuGioh.. I got bamboozled by TH-cam.
yes the entertainment industry has shown itself to have disdain for word of mouth advertising sacrificing it on the alter of "the message", because "the message" is more important then the paying customers they already have who would of freely advertised a well made adaptation.
Normies killed sagas, series, and videogames. Genshin Impact for example.
Ooooo you have more colour in your face with this new camera. Looking good!
CAMERA LOOKS THE SAME TO ME!!
(I'm lost so need Johnny to find me... I can see a church with a steeple...)
Great video John! Keep it up!
Most normies cannot have a deeper understanding of pretty much... anything. Also, the NPC meme exists for a reason.
Chronically online person
@@marvthemartian001meds take them
@@sneed. Yes I agree you should
@@marvthemartian001 “no u”-🤡
Take your medication schizo
You know what’s funny about normies? They even stealing insults and memes because they can’t come up with their own lol
“ Fans cannot be pleased”
Strange, because before they started trying to please normies the fans were fine. Your analogy on the guy who bullied you for watching Star Wars now trying to bully you for not watching it, is perfectly sums up why these hobbies die thanks to normies lol
You’re hilarious! Glad I found your channel
When you called me a bitch I chuckled
Be valued by your merits no matter the race/gender or anything else is not diversity, its Meritocracy and its the true a and only equality we should strive for. Diversity is product of this process. Forced diversity is pure evil and opposite of Meritocracy. Where you ARE valued by your race/gender but NOT by your merit.
Looks the same when my quality is set to 144p on my phone. :P
9:50 hey look its Gameboy Jones!!!
Game deaths = pixel dying = 0 impact
Movie deaths = living people playing dead with paint + chocolate = 0 impact
Play deaths = living people playing dead with no fake blood = 0 impact
Book deaths = bunch of words describing death = 0 impact
Gladiatorial fights = ppl actually dying= 100 impact
Thts basically how I saw tht video game comment by the last of us guy 🤣🤣🤣
I appreciate this video
Not Today!
I’ve not seen it but the way he described it it harkens back to a time when a bad movie was still watchable because you could turn your brain off and enjoy, instead of modern world politics pulling you out of it
booii i stoped it after 10 minutes sad propaganda BS not they need to pay us for this trannywood psy-ops
"Just as good as darth vader" *proceeds to put his head in the microwave and yell "end it all!" *
I was a bit skeptical about how you would define normies, but I think you've hit the nail on the head. You correctly separate the GP from Normies. The GP may watch the same products, but they're not typically the ones going online to defend trash adaptions or actively usurp fan culture and shape it into their desired image.
“…watching pixels die.” Does this person not know how many people cried over Mufasa’s death? Or Bambi’s MOM??
Facts times FACTS.
I need more Willow ^__^ Love your work more and more.
That hoodie is gas brother
I thought I needed glasses...till I saw this vid. It's miraculous. I think I hear angels singing
It looks the same🙊🤣🤣
Always great to watch you being funny
I’ve been enjoying your content for some time now. Make me laugh a lot each video ! Thank you! Thought it was time to start giving back, so I’ve become one of your patreons !! “You biiitch!” Hahaha
that was excellent
you are right it doesn't look the same.... it looks worse.
nah just kidding looks great!
