Brian Balmages just conducted my Allstate band and I was able to be in the second band ever to play his new piece, Grace. It's even more gorgeous than this and I actually came to tears on stage and so did he and basically everyone in the audience
My band directors old school played this and at the very end a baby cried and it tied in with the song SO WELL I shit you not💀💀 everyone in the class got shivers 🤣🤣
I think that was the intent. I've practiced this song in band but never actually played it in a concert or anything. But we did do Moscow, 1941. And we did Summer Dances and Among the Clouds during my sophomore year in high school as our halftime show.
:) My favorite part is playing the suspended cymbal on the timpani (while moving the tuning pedal) with a violin bow. It makes those creepy screeching noises towards the end. It freaks everyone out when your band room is completely silent. >:D
When I played this in middle school my band director decided that the bow on the cymbal on the timpani head wasn't spooky enough so she had my friend bow a music stand. It was Gnarly.
I remember that I had a stupid hard time getting the bow to scrape past the cymbal; I also remember how bad I hurt my ears when I got the good scratches. :D
It's been three years since I played this in my school's band, but I still distinctly remember the Alto Sax part having a really awkward trill at a certain spot. Can't recall what two notes they were, though.
Tried to get my band teacher to have us play this, fingers crossed that she lets us~ (We only got 2 flute players in my band so hopefully it goes well lmfao

Ken Bell the only time music has driven me to tears was when I was forced to listen to knickelback on a long car ride. Tears of pain.
