Reneesme's power is twofold. They are taken from both Edward's and Bella's power with a twist. Instead of reading people's thoughts like Edward, she allows them to read her's. And instead of keeping people out like Bella, nobody can keep her out of their mind. And anything she shows them is regarded instantly as the truth.

By far the best Twilight reactions I've seen. Look, we know the relationships are toxic, some scenes are so cringe, the CGI baby is horrfying, and the imprinting is problematic... but we love it anyway. And, I'm glad that you could look past those things and still just have fun with it.

I like that in Midnight Sun (which is the book Twilight but from Edward’s perspective) you see that Bella gets her Power from Charlie. Edward can see his mind but he doesn’t get words just feelings and images but nothing clear so it makes Bella’s power something that happened after generations and shows how Charlie is still safe from the Voltouri. I remember reading the books and thinking he wasn’t safe because he was kind of a loose end but this genetic quirk that saves Bella also saves Charlie because Aro can’t read his mind and see he knows they are vampires or supernatural

They actually do say that vampires forget a lot of their human lives after turning. It becomes kind've a daze for them. Also, there is a lot of elements of Fate in these books, and it's basically implied that Bella was fated to be a vampire, which is why she's so good at being a vampire, and was objectively "bad" at being a human (clumsy, awkward, etc)

That battle scene threw me for one heck of a loop lemme tell ya. I went to see this in theaters and the battle scene happened and I freaked tf out because none of that happened in the book and seeing Carlisle's head off was way disturbing to me because he was like 'wholesome dad doing his best' kind of figure for me. The imprint will never sit right with me especially after having my own daughter. You are completely right (imo) that there is a future intent of romance even if there isn't one now and that comes across as grooming for me just ick. I loved Bella's turning though and the fight with the Volturri I reread that part of the books semi regularly. Great reaction! 💙💙

In addition to Edward liking Bella being powerful, I think he also liked seeing Bella free of her Jacob feelings.
The main reason they can’t tell Charlie the truth is because if they do the Volturi could/would find out and they would insist he be killed or changed. They are trying to protect him. Jacob’s plan works because it doesn’t even hint at the existence of vampires. All Charlie knows is that something supernatural happened to Bella. If you notice at the beginning of the scene Jacob doesn’t have a problem with telling Charlie that Bella is dead. He only decides that it is unacceptable when he finds out that they are going to leave.
The biggest differences for Charlie in hugging Bella would be the cold and the stonelike skin. Bella constantly described Edward like he was a statue when she kissed him in the earlier parts of the story.
Renesmee was already more mature than a human child at birth and she continued to mature quickly. In the book Edward was able to read her thoughts in utero and learned that she was aware that her strength was hurting Bella, and she was trying to be careful and still so as not to hurt her further. The back breaking thing happened because the placenta detached, and Renesmee was suffocating. She taught herself to read while being read to. Her first word was the beginning of a fully grammatically correct sentence. Her first steps were perfect and graceful. She advances very quickly both physically and mentally.
Umm, I agree you NEED to see Avatar. Best animated series ever.
In the part where they were practicing, and Kate suggests getting Renesmee they actually do have Renesmee there in the book. She never tried to shock Renesmee, but she was there.
The thing with the fake id’s took longer in the book. There wasn’t a pre-existing order and Bella had to figure out who this guy was and what help he could be with practically no clues. She makes the order herself on the first visit and she meets him a second time to pick up the documents.
In the book, they don’t explain why Allistair left. He just disappeared one day. Watching the movie made that clearer to me.
There was no fight in the book. Alice didn’t trick Aro with a vision. They talked and proved Renesmee wasn’t an immortal child. Then Aro says the unknown is unsafe and Edward hears Alice coming and her thoughts and he gets Aro to agree that if Renesmee’s future could be known there would be no reason to fight. And then Alice comes in with the witnesses and proves what Renesmee will be. It’s during this conversation that they ask if Renesmee is venomous, and Bella says that she is not. The guy that is like Renesmee also talks about having several half-sisters and that they are also not venomous. Only he is. I always inferred that only the male half-vampire children develop vampire venom. So because the Volturi like to be seen as the good guys they back off.
The movie ignores the fact that the Volturi brought a group of witnesses to watch their actions to report that justice was done. Their presence was part of the reason no fight actually happened. Because the Cullens proved there was no crime and there was no valid reason for the Volturi to attack them.
The shield thing was significantly more impressive in the book. I think this was also a big part of the reason the Volturi did not attack. They are not guaranteed a victory and they know they will lose people if they fight.
I’m not bothered that they changed this in the movie. The fake fight thing was a lot more visually interesting. Can you imagine the climax of the movie being a big conversation and debate followed by a shrug and a sigh and they walk away? It worked well in the book but that’s an anticlimactic ending for a movie. LOL yes Caius is very punchable.
When I read the books, I was completely immersed in the book world and swallowed all the imprinting explanations without question. As time has passed and I’ve gotten older and given it thought, it bothers me now.

Having read the books and then seeing this ending every time is so emotional. Is the symbolism of she is now able to take down her wall for the person that she truly loves. The whole series they talked about how much Edward loved Bella and they portrayed her as Obsessed but it’s much deeper than that when she was able to truly show him how their lives impacted her. The book literally ends with forever.

  • @sepiaswirl

You responded a lot more dignified than my theater did at the time 😂 the book ends with them literally just having a conversation, no confrontation or fight. But I remember around the time the movie was going to released, something appeared in the media stating that the directors etc wanted to deviate from what was done in the books. So a lot of fans started wondering if they were planning on changing the ending. The moment Carlisle made that leap and was killed by Aro, my entire theater filled with teenage twilight fans lost their minds 😂 people started screaming and crying, because they thought the new movie ending was that multiple beloved characters were going to die instead. When it was revealed to be one of Alice's visions, my theater kind of broke down in anger hahah I will NEVER forget that moment. As silly as it is looking back on it, we truly loved this series so much and to have such strong emotional responses to seeing our favourite characters get hurt... idk, it's a fond memory for me.
The final scene with Bella and Edward is her bringing her defenses/shield down (it's the reason why Edward was never able to read her mind in the first place if you remember from the first movie, she was shielded), aka her showing him all of the previous movies we watched basically. I always thought it was a nice touch. I always get emotional seeing the ending credits, and watching you react to them was no different 🥹 thank you for giving this series a chance, and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the journey despite it all! It was a joy re-watching them along with you.

Hard on Jacob?? No. No! That guy is the worst.
I know Edward has his stalking habits as well and is no saint, but Jacob is a walking red flagg, he ignores every boundary he has been given even to the point of SA. Even though Edward was very "protective" of Bella, he never forced his presence onto her. At any point in the series, from first book/movie to last, if Bella would have asked him to leave her alone, he would have done so. He would have accepted her "no". Whereas Jacob pushes even harder everytime she declares her love for Edward. It's like Edward says: "Wait for her to say the words."

From an almost hateful sister in law to a loving aunt. My favorite scene is when Jacob, in wolf form, looks at Emmett for him to join them in the walk to go see Aro. Jacob knows Emmett is the strongest vampire next to Bella. Also when Edward goes to walk towards Aro, Bella makes sure Renesmee moves between her and Jacob when Edward leaves. I could go on and on😁. PLEASE WATCH AVATAR! Great series for the channel for reallll!
Fun fact: The whole Alice's predicting the future battle sequence that we see wasn't in the book. I guess the end was so anti-climatic after the whole gathering people and stuff that they decided to add it, and it was honestly a great choice. But book readers like myself were SUPER CONFUSED IN THE CINEMA 😂😂
Another cute thing to notice is that the wolf that died first in the memory was Seth. Then Leah, his sister, cried for him and Jacob got depressed. Then Esme was about to die and Leah saved her, sacrificing herself in the process. I think this is really sweet because of the whole wolves hating vampires ofc, but also because Esme had been trying her best to be nice to Leah/Seth since the last movie. When Leah/Sett become a part of Jacob's pack Esme makes food for them, but the vampire smell makes the it impossible to eat, so she does her best not to touch it while preparing. In the end Sett/Leah grow to like her and it is shown by Leah's actions here 😢 Super cute.

I’ve only just started watching your reactions and your smile is just infectious and your personality and warmth just shine through. You are wonderful to watch. Thank you!
In the books there IS no fight, not even in alice’s powers, because she cannot see events the wolves have a part in, same with Renesmee. Bella just sheilds the entire group. Aro has jane & brother both try, and his dark mist went around them like an enormous dome, then she just kinda let the shield fall and cloak each as they moved etc. Aro sees it, sees the Takoona halfbreed, & left. Also, the Volturi only took about 20 ppl, but brought witnesses themselves. Witnesses who got the F out of there as soon as Calrisle pointed out Aro wanted to have Alice & Edward, that was why the volturi had come etc.
the writer left the takoona man (who has many sisters) kinda looking at Renesmee the same way Jacob does. Setting up a love triangle for later if desired lol.
Mean Girls is really good. Super funny & with a decent basic message as well.

I too was one of those who saw this in the cinema and same as everyone else has said, the entire room was collectively gasping and crying at the fight scene but what was hilarious was when it was revealed to be just a vision, the entire room let out a collective breath of release that we didn't realise we had been holding together and everyone started laughing at the fact we had all had the same reaction. I mean people had been digging their hands into the arm of the person next to them so hard it was leaving marks. It was such a great moment to be seeing it in the cinema for that experience.

This last scene was beautiful! you got the right to get emotional! after all this time he knew of course how much she loved him but he's so used to seeing everything for himself in others minds except for hers, and he was SO jealous whenever Jake was around before but he'd never admit that lol so she now took her shield off of her mind altogether so he was able to read hers for the first time and know exactly how much she loved him there was never a competition! The recap was her trying to project through her mind all of their moments since she first saw him! It was so beautiful in the book as well.

I'm a big Twilight fan (the books are so much better than the films) and my husband took me to this last film as our first date, so we made A Thousand Years our first dance song at our wedding. Now I cry every time it starts playing at the end of the film because not only is it an incredibly romantic moment where Edward can finally read her mind for a moment, it also automatically takes me back to the best day of my life ❤

I’m 61 now, and only started reading the Twilight books to see as a concerned Dad what my daughter was reading. I loved the books straight away then the movies when they were released. I watched BD Part 2 in the cinema and yes, blown away by the final scene, but what caught me off guard was the emotion I felt watching the opening titles - I've watched movies all my life but for me, it’s the best opening for a movie, first, because it features all the main theme tunes from each movie, and second, because if the anticipation of seeing Bella become a vampire at last. Outstanding stuff. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched the movies on DVD. I also sincerely (and a bit perversely perhaps) hope I’m dead before they try to remake these movies and they’re so perfectly cast.
And of course, I’ve really enjoyed your funny and insightful reaction to the movies. You really are the brightest and possibly the most likeable film critic of your age… Imagine I’m saying that in Professor Lupin’s voice 😊

The perfect target audience 😉 and yes watching that end scene gave me a heart attack (but in a good way I guess) because its not like that in the book so even reading them we were in the dark. Anyways, Im actually so excited to see the reboot, If it goes that way. I really want to see how they think this story would play out today🥰

Another thing about the final battle at the end that could really confuse people is, in canon, Alice can't see the shifters or Bella's daughter/others that are half human-half vampire in her visions. They're blind spots to her. The final battle seemed real because we were seeing things in Alice's vision that we canonically shouldn't have been seeing. If I remember correctly, the Volturi vampires should have started disappearing during direct interactions with the shifters only to reappear after suffering their various dismemberments. Imagine being Aro and seeing /that/ future.

As everyone has said- the battle didn’t happen in the book (it almost did) but Alice arrived and we didn’t get to see her vision. I was shocked about Carlisle- and then enraged at Jaspers “death” because he was one of the most well trained soldiers (even with the other powers) he has powers of his own- he 100% would have used his powers to influence a better outcome for survival so it was a huge relief to see it was Alice showing Aro what would happen if he fought them (he was most afraid of dying)

Okay, I have to say this: Your reactions to Jacob's actions in the first four movies were spot on. Other people saying you were too hard on him is, I think, a reaction that one has to someone not loving a character/trope/thing that we love. It was not irrational or too much. When Jacob was on the screen doing well, you acknowledged that, and when he was a jerk/red flag/abuser, you also acknowledged that. That's incredibly fair. After the sexual harassment, the emotional manipulation, all the immaturity and inability to accept the will of the person he supposedly "loved" (ignoring someone's choice over and over while insisting on gaslighting and manipulating them to agree with you is not love), you were still objective on the character when he made good choices. Your judgment on his actions was correct. That was so clear to me, it had to be said.
Now, just as a general observation, I am so grateful you react as genuinely as you do. There is no excusing bad behavior; we shouldn't. Not to rationalize a character who's had a hard past, and not to hold on to what we wish they'd be. And: that's not the same as hating the character. People make mistakes. Admitting they are mistakes does not mean we aren’t rooting for them to change, to become better. We can do both. Okay 😄👐 Rant over.

So one thing that I noticed in the first part of Breaking Dawn was that the explanation of the imprinting is they only every really show it as a love kind of relationship, but the way I see it is that they can be just friends, like siblings, or even in a relationship, and I see it as based off of the age of the imprinted and not the imprinter, it will be a different relationship, as they do show one instance of a shifter imprinting on Emily’s niece, who at the time of this move is set is still a toddler, the imprinter being Quil Ateara. Not all imprinting is shown as love but just an instinctive need to protect.

    • @thecocoacouch
      @thecocoacouch  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Nah, even if it’s platonic, still weird if any imprinting can likely “lead”to romantic love. It’s made even worse that Jacob was in love with Bella because he was meant to love her future child.

I've heard some people complaining about how giving every single actor in the franchise a place in the spotlight during the end credits was unnecessary for smaller roles, but I honestly couldn't disagree more. I thought it was awesome of the filmmakers to properly acknowledge the entire cast's contribution to the movies. Smaller roles often don't get the recognition and appreciation they deserve, and this credits sequence truly felt like a thank you to the entire cast along the way.

For those of us who have written Twilight fanfiction for many years, it can sometimes be so hurtful to see the way some of the other reactors and people up in the comments section will often make a joke of something that for us, has provided a tremendous creative outlet.
Yes, the books and movies have their flaws, as any series does, but the universe that SM built is so very unique and so vast that the potential for what we as fans can do to expand (and even improve) on it is limitless.
It is for this reason that so many of us choose to continue to play in her sandbox, even though there are others who choose to pee in it 🤷😅

Watching this in the cinema, at midnight, after watching the other 4 movies before hand (it started at like 3pm - was a whole thing), and then it was like 1.30am, and you just see the scene where Carlisle dies, which COMPLETELY deviates from how it happens in the book and everyone in the cinema just gasps and is like WHAT THE ACTUAL F*** (cause I'm like, sorry, NO WAY YOU KILL CARLISLE) and then at the end of it, you see it's just Alice's vision, one of the biggest plot deceptions I've ever seen, was epic. I love watching peoples reactions to it!

Oh, being in the cinema for that battle scene was fab. That doesn’t happen in the books so everyone was stunned. (And there were audible groans and “Aw, what?!”s when it turned out to just be a vision.) Glad you enjoyed it all, really. I was always Team Alice because, as you point out, she just genuinely wanted the best for Bella and was always there for her in a healthy way. She would have been a better love interest than either boy but you don’t always get what you want (especially from a Mormon author)! And yes, Charlie is the best. 😊
