    I clicked so fast, so exciting to hear your thoughts on Looxi and major props to Kathryn for making this happen!! I love Snickerdoodle, I think of it as a Diet Carving and wear it when I want Carving vibes with less of a base/impact. The sheerness of a lot of their shades is a big selling point to me. Totally agree they’re doing themselves a major disservice by not providing accurate swatches and not commissioning creators of different skin tones to make accurate swatches. Hoping they take note soon!

    Omg the SWATCHES! You made all of the Looxi shades look so good! It was really interesting to see your comparisons since you’ve got some shades that I don’t! Honestly, seeing your comparisons for Fuzzy Flamingo kind of make me want to see it compared to Clionadh Sunbeam or Adornment!

    If there's just *one* shade I'd love to see in a future video or IG post, it's Angel Wings, now that it's available again! Also, it might be worth doing a comparison of Hybrid with Clionadh Grisaille and Abrasion.
    Something influencers have pointed out that I agree with is that Looxi dupes themselves often. Examples: Abracadabra and Snickerdoodle are warm and cool versions of each other. Drip is a TM Hot Spiced Cider dupe so it's probably right between Peacock and Jeepers Creepers. Star Burst and Salt Water Taffy have the same gold sparkle with different bases (tan vs dark red-brown). Angel Wings, Rose, and Boujee are the same or very similar base and shifts with different textures. So as a point of advice to anyone, I don't think it's worth collecting them all even at this price point, but it's definitely worth picking and choosing whatever assortment suits your fancy.

    I watched hot vegan Hannah and Kathryn B before placing my looxi order. Between the two, I think I was able to make an informed order. I use the nyx glitter glue and don’t experience creasing - but I definitely experience the shimmer traveling up into my crease (user error?) as well as fading for some shades (I wear my makeup for a 12-18 hr day). I’m surprised you don’t have cookie dough in your video :) painted lady looks very gold to me. I was hoping for more of the blue, silver over purple effect that I see in your video. I wonder why … and I also think I need to start sheering out my shadows more - I tend to be heavy handed. All in all I am enjoying my looxi shadows. And I really enjoyed this video and would appreciate future such videos as well.

    In a perfect world, I agree that Looxi would benefit from hiring a few people with different skin tones to provide more accurate swatches, but I sometimes admire her attitude towards stepping away from social media. It’s as if she’s saying she’s just going to make the best shadows at the best price she can and those who like what she does will buy the product. Anyway, there are so many I would recommend, especially from more recent collections: Jawbreaker, Red Hot, Once Upon a Time, Emerald City, Jelly Bean/Arctic Rose/Venus, Champagne Punch, Goody Goody Gumdrop, Blitzen, Vixen, Starboy, Glasswing, Until Dawn, Dark Waters, Winter Moon, Blue Lagoon, Cosmo/Tequila Sunrise, Jelly, plus Bubblegum, Screwball and Snow Cone for the inner corner. I knew Angel Wings and Hybrid would come up as recommendations. I’m super curious to see how Hybrid compares to more expensive blue-brown shades.

      I can understand why a brand owner would want to step away from social media - I get a lot of *nasty* messages and comments from people who think I’m a makeup brand, so I can only imagine how many an actual brand owner gets lol. I don’t think they need to have a social media presence to have adequate representation in swatches tho, and honestly I wouldn’t be critiquing them for their lack of social media presence if they had this on their website. Especially since I have seen them send out PR to at least one creator on IG. Those funds could have been allocated toward compensating a creator for swatches. That’s what I did for my collab at least. we were only able to afford sending PR to a couple people with what was leftover but swatch representation was a non negotiable. Appreciate your perspective! And thank you for the recommendations!

    For some reason I couldn't edit my comment so I'm re doing it altogether. Their swatches can become misleading tbh. It was why I bought so many of their shadows when I 1st stepped into the scene and now they just sit collecting dust since I only wear really shifty eyeshadows. Don't get me wrong they're nice especially for the price just not my preference. I might give them away to my mom who would appreciate the everyday kind of more neutral leaning eyeshadows. Thanks for sharing! Always a joy to watch any of your content ❤

    I still go back to Looxi and always pick up a few shades from their collections. I know a lot of people find the swatches a but of a bait and switch but I still take a chance hoping that it will be a shade that I will love. The newest collection has a shade Splash that reminds me of Enceladus from TM and Angel Wings is *chefs kiss.* I do get a little creasing from some of the shades but it’s not bad since I have incredibly oily, hooded lids. I just use a primer and a base to minimize any creasing.

    I'm so mad that yt has not been giving me notifications for your uploads & I have the bell on. 🥴 Anywayyysssss.. 😂
    You KNOW I'm a looxi fan & have been for years & years. It was so interesting to see which shades Kathryn sent you because now I want to send you 10 that I want you to test out! I definitely would've sent fuzzy flamingo & ube, but I have so many others that I adore & think would blow your socks off.
    Thing about looxi is they're a very polarizing brand in the community. Their swatches are misleading, they have zero social presence, they don't reshare or like/comment on any of their customers who create content, they only pop up to announce new collections or sales, they don't have swatches on different skin tones, & I've heard of instances where they have reached out to offer pr & then don't send it.
    I have a feeling that they found a manufacturer that sells them these in bulk at an incredible price. I think they also buy samples of the pigments to create their swatches & either mix the pigment with a mixing medium or tap the pigment on over a glitter glue. I'm sure they mess with the contrast & saturation, but not to the level where it would make everything look completely different. When that's done, it causes the skin tone to look wildly different imo & as far as I know, that is the owners skin tone (the thick band swatches). Obviously I have so many opinions on the brand lol. As someone who is passionate about byop, I adore that looxi provides beautiful shadows at a price point I can get on board with. Oh & I have more comparisons to other Indies! I should really pull all of my looxi & do a proper swatch comparison to some other Indies I have!

    Looxi uses synthetic wax as a binder which makes her eyeshadows rather oily. Synthetic wax is derived from petroleum.
    That said there are some true hidden gems in her line up, like Angel Wings and Painted Lady. Haven't tried their more recent shadows after the "reformulation" so I can't really speak to those. And yep my last order from them was in 2019 when they released their Butterfly kisses.
    From what I understood, they are both private labeled and handmade. The eyeshadows that aren't handpressed like their regular shimmers and mattes come from a factory, the auroras are handpressed, because the swatches she shows on her website are likely made when the pigment is being mixed, that's why they look much more intense.

    • @seekingshifts
      @seekingshifts ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you! I definitely see why that would cause so many people to have creasing issues. I used to have both of their Ice Cream Social collections back in the day and there were some absolute standouts- Salted Caramel and Cookie Dough. I ended up giving all of my Looxi shadows to a friend but otherwise I think I would still be using those 2 shades to this day

    • @chromaticromance
      @chromaticromance ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seekingshifts yeah it's unfortunate they crease on some of us with hooded or oily lids. Synthetic wax is safer than natural wax, but at the end of the day an eyeshadow should perform without too much babysitting. Perhaps repressing them with alcohol and soaking the excess with a paper towel would make them less oily and less prone to creasing, but I don't expect everyone to do that, when there are arguably better formulated eyeshadows on the market.

    Hannah is the one who introduced me to this brand, I think my favorite shades from them are Painted Lady (which my cat smashed but I thankfully was able to repress it) and Angel Wings, but I have a few others I enjoy. They have some affordable yet good quality shadows! A couple aren’t my faves because they’re too sheer or too satiny for my preferences. But I still think most of them are pretty good, regardless of the low price point! I just wish that on the website they wouldn’t show such dramatized and unrealistic swatches. Yours seemed much more accurate but still so pretty! I get they’re probably trying to sell more by making the swatches look more appealing, but it’s definitely a bit deceptive and leads to disappointment. I would agree it seems the contrast/saturation has been enhanced on their site, which they don’t even need to do! The shadows I have look amazing when you’re natural light so it’s like Looxi… stop! You don’t need to edit your swatches!!!

    I don’t have too much trouble with creasing from Looxi, and my eyes are very hooded but not oily.. so maybe it has to do more with the oils and their formula? Definitely some variations of their formula stay put better than others. (If anyone sees this-I have heard Wet N Wild Photofocus eye primer is good for oily lids, obviously I can’t confirm myself for the oily aspect but in general it works great for me and I like to put it out there in case it is helpful to someone else especially since it is affordable)
    Very beautiful swatches and absolutely 100% agree.. if they showed a variety of realistic swatches on a variety of skin tones it would be a game changer. It would also be good for them to zone in on making their descriptions more accurate imo.. if anything undersell it and just name the base tone and the most prominent reflect🤷🏻‍♀️ I also wish they were more dedicated to having at least some social media presence, the last time I looked they even had their comments turned off on newer posts, which isn’t a good sign at all to me. With all that being said, I do really enjoy their shadows for what they are. I don’t expect anything specifically when I order and I usually am pleasantly surprised.
