Mercedes' incredible vocals is what made me realize Mr. Schue was a terrible teacher. I mean, how else can you explain him shafting Mercedes, Santana, Tina, and later Unique as well? God forbid the man teach the diva in his class some humility in favor of letting his best vocalists shine like they deserve.

If mercedes didn't get what she wanted she'd wallow in self pity and get mad at the world. Rachel wouldn't stop until she got what she wanted, losing motivated her. Rachel is a better star. it has nothing to do with race.. stop making exuses.

Santana and Mercedes were the best by far, Quinn had an amazing vintage aesthetic to her voice, Artie could sing everything, Brittany legit sang like Britney Spears, Kurt was incredible, Tina sounded like an angel, Pucks voice was deep and smooth. Oh but no Mr. Shue gotta give all the solos to the people with absolutely no bass in they voice smh

I do believe that Lea Michelle does have a good voice and is talented, but she was in no way the strongest vocally. Quinn’s voice is my favourite but Santana and Mercedes are probably the best objectively. I love Cory Monteith but he had one of the worst voices on the show.

Amber herself even said it was very difficult to record the song cause of the breath control and emotion that she had to emote and that she was literally tired after she left the recording studio. Idk where I saw it though, it was some old, old interview from years ago.

My biggest pet peeve about glee is that several times they’d have people say how Mercedes was the best singer- but she never got the spot light. Like you can’t mention racial problems and in that ONE episode solve them... then completely forget about them again.

I love this so much. She's so talented. The in-show thing about Rachel being a better singer is so not true after Mercedes came into the picture. From a classical point of view, Rachel has more of a Broadway sound (nasally and easily projected. Think Elsa, or Rachel's mom). Mercedes was able to do all of that and more. Kind of an insult to contribute saying Rachel was best after it was proven that others could stand next to her without being blown away.
I think Amber can do so much more vocally than Lea, but if they both sing a broadway song in the same key without any embellishment, Lea would sounds better. Lea's timbre carry more depth than Amber's.
Mercedes had the best voice. She genuinely makes me cry when she sings. Her VOICE IS IMPECCABLE

For me when Mercedes sings "And I'm Telling You" she got her highest talent... Like all glee members get impressioned
For me, the real difference between Mercedes and Rachel started out as a great Broadway belter and ended as a great Broadway belter. There was no appreciable difference between the way she sang her first song and her last song on the show. Mercedes, OTOH, grew as a singer and a performer throughout her entire run on the show. She started out with a voice that was powerful but unpolished. By the end, she could sing any song, in any genre, flawlessly. @@lydiamoon5235 But your initial premise was factually not correct, as much as you meant it and I took it as a compliment. She was always polished, just never got to show it cuz Ryan and Brad always had her belting. If you google some of her pre-Glee work, youbwill see that she was already quite polished. Btw, she is a clasically trained opera singer - not sure how much more "polishing" one needs. 🤷♀️

A couple spotlight moments you missed were Try A Little Tenderness. The run near the end is fucking awesome! And also the end of Give Up the Funk. Disco Inferno is fiiiire, that version is superb, even better than the original in my opinion
Yes! "Disco Inferno" is one of the TRUE Glee covers that I believe is honestly better than the original!!

See that's one of the things that people forget is Amber Riley has played in way more musical, Leah went more towards popish songs while Amber covered everything from Broadway to gospel.

Number 15 is probably the most impressive one though. It's one thing to sing like you're not human but it is another to do it while being emotional serenading a friend and crying AND still slaying. This performance deserves an award or something.
