    One more THANKS for posting this info. I couldn't find a schematic for this thermostat and no other TH-cam video on this subject is so accurate and concise, unless you're using a Nest. Our millivolt fireplace is functioning flawlessly with this configuration. I find the "R" and "Rc" terminals are jumped when blue lever is up, and separate when slid to down position. Trial and error would have taken forever, and accidently sending 24VAC through our fireplace's millivolt gas valve might not have had a such a great outcome!

    Hey Gary - just wanted to Thank You for helping us past a typo/error in the Amazon instructions that had us hung up. I can confirm that your instructions work also for a Thermo-Pride (with a Honeywell starter) 2 wire oil burner here in the Pacific Northwest. Cheers, buddy!

    Thank you. Worked perfect with Beckett by Honeywell R7184P. Used a 24v 40amp doorbell transformer hardwired instead of the plug in transformer.

    Thanks. I Have a two wire hydronic heating system, The control unit does have a 24 Volt out. So I just had to use the extra 2 unused wires the installer had put in, and hook those two extra wires to the thermostat. Then hook everything up as your video. Was nice to see Alexa even had a Hot water Boiler in the setup. Works good.

    Just wanted to point out that the QR code is also printed on the back of the thermostat. I was able to go through the setup without using the QR code on the back of the manual. When I got to the step where it asked to scan the QR code, I just removed the thermostat, scanned the back, and plugged it back into the wall. You can safely lose the manual.
    I was working on this for days before I found your video. Got it done only with your help. I have a 2 wire, 3 zone hot water radiator with a beckett furnace. It already had a transformer for the 2 wires so I just ran another 3 line thermostat cable to each of my 3 thermostats giving me the 4 wires I needed for your instruction.
    Thank you sir.

    Hi! Thanks a lot for the video. I’m doing exactly what you are explaining, but as soon as I put the Thermo on the wall plate, the heating turns on. Regardless of the temperature setup. Even if I disconnect the adapter and the thermostat turns off, keeps running. Is like the thermostat is creating a permanent connection between the 2 cables

    After some thought, for my A/C wiring configuration on a 2-wire system, I'm wondering if I would run into a problem wiring the transformer to RC and C because shouldn't I have to use RC & W for the 2 wires I have coming into my present thermostat? From what I understand, and I could be wrong, RC stands for Red Cold. The thermostat has to know whether it's running a furnace or and A/C because one turns on when the temperature rises and the other turns on when the temperature falls. So I'm wondering what is the correct way to wire the 2-wire A/C thermostat properly, if there even is a way to make it work. Thank you!

    I only have a red (RC) and white (W) wire coming from my furnace to my thermostat and then I have a black wire connecting RC and RC. Two connections in my oil furnace and the company told me aC wire can’t be added. Will the transformer in your video work for me? I’m hoping to add the Amazon thermostat.

    • @DIYELEKTRONICKITS

    • @citrus226
      @citrus226 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do NOT connect the transformer to the furnace. The transformer wires go directly to the thermostate. The two wires from the furnace also go to the thermostat

    One other question, I have a totally separate Central Air Conditioner system from my furnace, so I have 2 thermostats on my wall. I use the same venting as the furnace, so in the winter time I totally shut off the A/C while running the furnace and in the summer I totally shut down the furnace while running the A/C. The A/C, like my furnace, is a 2-wire 24 volt system , with a red & white wire connecting to the old thermostat. Would the Amazon Smart Thermostat also work with my A/C, similarly to my 2-wire furnace connection, where I connect the Red to the R and White to the W, then connect the adapter to the C and RC? Also, since I am only using one system at a time (either furnace or A/C), I was thinking about buying just one adapter kit, have 2 sets of thermostat wires (one for the furnace, one for the A/C), and only connecting one set of thermostat wires to the adapter at a time, since I am only running one system at a time. That would save me the cost of buying another adapter kit, which are $34. Is that a reasonable plan in your opinion? My plan is to buy 2 Amazon Smart Thermostats, one for the furnace and the other for the A/C to make all of this work. My gas company is offering rebates on 2 Amazon Smart Thermostats per household, so I thought I would use both. Since my systems are separate, I don't even know if it's possible to use one thermostat for separate systems, and even if it is, it could be very confusing to set up. As it stands now, I have 2 older thermostats side-by-side, one for the furnace, the other for the A/C. Thanks!

    Hi, maybe dumb question, what size wire are you using? And am I correctly assuming that this is just adding power to the thermostat? Just the thermostat to a power outlet?

    • @DIYELEKTRONICKITS
      @DIYELEKTRONICKITS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use an 18ga 2 conductor wire and yes you are simply supplying power to the thermostat that your furnace cannot

    Hi. Great video. The Amazon thermostat is working for me based on your instructions. I installed a 24v transformer to C and Rc, with the two wires to my electric plenum furnace going to R and W. My question is about the setup in the Amazon Alexa app. I told that app that my wiring configuration only had C, R, and W hooked up, even though I also have one of the transformer wires hooked up to Rc. Seems to work fine, and I can't seem to change the wiring setup in Alexa App, even though I deleted and added the thermostat into the app again. Which wires did you input into the Alexa app, as that info is not shown in your video? Did you input R,W,Rc,C, or just R,W,C? Best regards, and thanks for your video.

      If your furnace can supply the necessary connections and you only have 2 wires coming from it you can always run more wiring to your furnace, This method is if your furnace can only supply 2 connections to it. I think is what you are getting at?

    I'm sorry to bother you one last time. This question is about how to hook up wires to my central air (which is a totally separate system from my furnace) when I have just 2 wires (red & white) at my current thermostat. I only have 2 wires coming to my existing thermostat, a red and a white wire. I am using a transformer to replace the c-wire. So I believe I would hook up the transformer to the RC & C plugs (order doesn't matter), and as for the existing 2 wires that I currently use, I would connect the Red wire to the R plug, and the White wire to the Y plug. From what I now understand, Y is for cooling, opposed to W being used for heat. Is that correct?

    Hi, very helpful video. I have a 2 wire natural gas furnace. The wires coming into my present thermostat are red and white. I know I will connect them to the R & W slots on the Amazon Smart Thermostat. Since the C-wire adapter won't work, I'm going to buy a 24 VAC Wall Wart Kit on amazon. I'll have to also buy some 18/2 thermostat wire to run it to an outlet in my basement from where the thermostat is located. I saw on your video where you connected the Red to the RC and the Black to the C, and that visa versa would be fine. When I purchase my adapter kit, should I also run the Black to the C and the Red to the RC slots? Thanks!

    • @DIYELEKTRONICKITS
      @DIYELEKTRONICKITS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The color to C and the RC connections really do not matter since your Wall Wart is providing AC power that is not polarized. So Black to C and Red to RC will work just fine.

    I bought the Amazon smart thermostat a year ago for free because of the electric company rebate then I bought a 24 v doorbell transformer $5.95. Been using it for over a year works great with my central air and forced hot air unit. The dummies at Amazon apparently don’t realize they’re losing a lot of business because a lot of these boilers with Beckett burners do not have any circuit board with a C wire designation so people are confused with their stupid over priced adapter. It’s like they’re trying to sell you a car with no wheels would you buy one?
