    Growing up American you wouldn't even catch wind of something like this. Being older and having access to the internet and exploring foreign cuisine is the best thing I've ever done growing up. Something so simple but tastes so delicious. Love the video and recipe

      @@akdlg9sjjslk8 Good for you. But not all of America is the same. I had never even had sushi until I was in my 20s and hadn't had "real" (as in non instant) ramen until in my 30s. I have been on a basically low, practically non-existent budget all of my life, so unless someone is kind enough to treat me to a restaurant or ingredients so I can make something at home, I don't get to eat it.

    • @TriegaDN
      @TriegaDN 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@akdlg9sjjslk8 I can also understand not having many opportunities to explore other foods much growing up, even with so much available around you. You're kind of stuck with what your parents ultimately feel comfortable eating until becoming an adult to explore on your own! I live in an area with a lot of Japanese restaurants and a few Japanese grocery stores mainly because of Japanese international businesses having offices here, and if it wasn't for the internet and being a weeb, I probably wouldn't know onigiri still, pokemon would have successfully lead me to think it's a jelly donut!
      I grew up with instant ramen though, I am surprised how many people didn't, since it's a very affordable food and I guess it was just a result of my family struggling with money much of my childhood.

    Thank you for bringing simple Japanese cooking to us Westerners! I've fallen in love with Japanese food, especially things like Mochi, Miso soup, Udon, Unagi Don, and all sorts of Maki and Nigiri. I've been wanting to try onigiri for quite some time now, and have tried Inari (the one where the Inari is a pouch and it's filled with the rice) and tamagoyaki nigiri....loved them both. So I've been looking at recipes, even buying some of the hard-to-get ingredients online. I've tried Agedashi Tofu, and I think I have the broth-sauce down but the frying is escaping my understanding. I cut them right, and I powder it on potato starch (also tried corn starch, as well as a mix of things) and it comes out crispy, but not the same outside texture as the ones I get at restaurants. The coating turns clear, and seems more plastic-like. Maybe I got a counterfeit potato starch??? Any ideas?

I'm looking for recipe ideas like this one to get creative with. I was lazy and cheap and tried canned salmon and it's wasn't bad.
