It's a great riff but I'd like the mids brought up a little more to make those higher alternating octaves pop out a little more.... but that's just me?
This song is a literary gift. Paul, in the midst of the recriminations of love, inserted the intellectual gem "the next artery", which is not an element of speech, but a fragment of pure thought that suddenly arises in the mind of the speaking, as he is approaching his home, where presumably the story with her will end. Anyone who is capable of such finesse is certainly a great and true poet.
I can't believe how much better it sounds when the instruments stand out in the mix. They really dropped the ball with regards to production on the studio recording.
Here's the dealio, the recorded version has a depth and a grittiness that this live version does not. The pedals and mixing are just a bit heavier (it's hard to describe). Personally I love how it sounds recorded. I feel like it adds to the anger and confusion of the song, which only makes it better. But that's just me. I appreciate the differentness of this version (especially how the bass is more prevalent) but it adds a different element and changes the initial feeling of the song.
the bass is up (better), there seems to be a bit more space in the sound (good), but paul's voice is a bit less distinct, but the the recorded version works for me too
I see people saying they like this more than the studio version, but I think both are amazing for their own respective reasons. This one has a much clearer tone, but the studio version is great (at least in my opinion) for its very ethereal sounding echoey mix. Either way, absolute banger of a song.
Studio version was recorded in mag tapes, which loved what they did there. This version is also great. I believe there's different occasions where the version will fit better

Hello Danielle, Interpol perform their songs also on stage without dispersion and blandishments towards the public, reproducing the CD almost exactly: a real war machine.
@@bearzdlc2172 in past years yeah, if you watch live stuff from 2017 his voice was awful but now he’s sounding great live, I’ve watched them live in 2019 and 2022 and the difference was huge
Pasan los años, y no han perdido su estilo, una de mis bandas favoritas! Lastima que ya no está Carlos D, que era el que le daba un detalle más con su forma de tocar el bajo, pero aún así se mantienen vigentes con su buena música...
If you haven't heard the AOL sessions they did back in 2007 I highly recommend. I like that version of "Evil" and "Heinrich Maneuver" better than the originals.
They sound perfect, as usual!! So happy to hear those basslines pop, Daniel's riff, Paul and Brandon both sound amazing and balanced, and Sam is always perfect!
I feel like this might be Interpol's strongest track among an already deep catalog of great songs. Obviously, tastes are subjective, but this really is a well-crafted gem of a song.
No band today is able to achieve such musical perfection from the beginning to the end of a song. On the contrary, it is easy and deceptive to hide the musical paucity behind a jam session without a theme.
The more I listen to this wonderful song, the more my wonder grows at the perfection of the melody and arrangements they have been able to create, so much so that with every listening I discover nuances that I had not noticed previously!
when I came back from a 2yr deployment after 9-11, I just missed them playing Underground 2003, in a St Louis, Missouri basement bar. You just have to see it on youtube. It takes you there. 3 individual songs were recorded. Has anyone found the whole show? thanks
Esta ejecución demuestra que la buena música siempre tendrá algo distinto que decirnos cada vez que la escuches.. mas aun en vivo. Interpol es un estilo dominado y perfectamente ejecutado.
I see that many fans, instead of enjoying this wonderful song, are busy criticizing their way of playing or the mistakes of Paul or the absence of Carlos (it has passed almost ten years friends!) or the incompetence of Fridmann or who knows what else. This is a group that plays professionally from 1998 and has done concerts in all parts of the world, almost always with the sold out (sold out that are costantly recorded in our days too). Do you think that if they were so imperfect as you say, they would have lasted so long or would have been called by the most important radio station in the United States? So, If you believe that was a good fortune for us to meet them, try to abandone your dress of critics and go back to making fans, as long as we can do it (one day, for whatever reason, they might no longer be there)!
Dude this whole “dont even think about criticizing something and just enjoy it” mentality is fucking stupid. If people have a justifiable reason to complain about something, its because they want an improvement of the product they paid for or want to pay for.
Hello AngelicBeatdown, what you say might be worth for the "presumed" incompetence of Fridman in making the album, but what about the criticisms for Carlo's absence (as if someone is to blame today for an event that appened almost ten years ago and to wich, in any case, we should now be accustomed!), or the imaginary errors of Paul in a single performance at the BBC, wich is not a product for sale, but constitutes a real gift for fans?? All this, not to mention anything else, seems to me really stupid!!
Props to the BBC audio team. This sounds stellar...
so much better than their original recording.....

Absolute codswallop. You are a moron.
Marauder needs to be re-recorded in its enterely in that studio!
Yep, this has a punch to it for sure.

Holy shit, yes please.
Couldn´t agree more, the last production doesnt fit the Genius of this great band. This is how the cd could have sound. Interpol as it´s best!
Great stuff from Interpol, not difficult to guess who the song is about.

Classy
Like they highlight class struggle?

Agree, has that magic echoe
If you really love nothing
On what future do we build illusions
If you really love nothing
Do we wait in silent glory
If you really love nothing
What part of betrayal do you wish to deny
Whenever I find my home
The next artery
Splendid I bled my whole life
So it's probably a kiss goodbye then
If you really love nothing
Everybody's made up
Everybody's losing
If you really love nothing
Shall we sleep in silent glory
If you really love nothing
How could you be there
You could just leave forever
When I find my home
The next artery
Splendid I bled my whole life
So it's probably a kiss goodbye then
It's goodbye then
You can trace a hole upon your dress
On your dress, on your dress, on you dress
Breath in it's optimal
Reading remember
The week's end grading
Better than seven other men
Wayward from women who break dimension
I know that you could just leave forever
When I find my home
The next artery
