*Is 'faking it' really so bad?... Hear me out.* The comment section is misconstruing her message. I am not an empathetic person. However, I am not a 'really bad' person looking for tips on how to be more deceitful or 'Machiavellian'. When friends or family share something deeply emotional with me, I am at a loss as to how to provide the 'empathy' they so desperately crave at that precise moment. Admittedly, I am the worst. Her comment of 'faking it' clearly rubbed people wrong. Is 'faking it' really an evil method? How often do we hear, "In that circumstance you should 'act' this way or 'act' that way to help them feel more xyz.." How is that any different than 'faking it'? 'Faking it', 'acting' or 'feigning compassion' is a far better way of offering empathy than checking your smart phone, cutting the person off with a tangent or removing eye contact and fixating on other distractions in a restaurant. [I know because I've done all of those things.]
LOL! I thought I was commenting on a different video. It was a story about an autistic high school kid stabbing another student with scissors because they wouldn't give him their lunch money.
My criticism of this talk is that she did not talk much about...Machiavellian Empathy. What is the link, the connection between Machevelli in his literature 😉🤔
Empathy is like a muscle. You can fake it for a little but the more you force yourself to actually do it. The more your empathic muscles grow and get better.
Without saying be more person-centred, that's what she's saying. Follow the core criteria of unconditional positive regard, authenticity and empathy and you'll be good. Literally read anything by Carl Rogers and you'll be set.

Well said.
Lil bitches gonna break me off my fair share of bread!
Well, thank you for the compliment. I'm not sure what one says in relation to your comment that followed after. :)

Haha.. I figured it was a mistake or due to my *lack of 'empathy'* I wasn't getting the reference.
Thank you for sharing. Mach empaths are underrated or undiscussed.
I think empathy is an analog and not binary quality. I think that the only people devoid of empathy are sociopaths. 😉😀

Ma'am, you can not fake it you learn, you develop and if you don't you'll get it when you go through it or something similar...
Most people would not consider Machiavelli to be a role model for empathy. Nor would they have much empathy for Machiavelli 😉😀
“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Cluster b anyone - you can't fake warm empathy unless you have NPD even then it's full of holes
NPDs can only fake cognitive empathy. Only one they got. Machs can fake both, put emotional empathy on hold (on/off button) .
I was hoping it would pan out to a group of elementary kids or a prison for the insane.
Very unorganized and confusing. Just focus on real empathy and how to operationalize it.
Great!👍
