    In Australia, we use a product called Zoff to dissolve adhesives in surgical tape etc on our patients. I'm surprised they don't use something similar - it's a lot less fume-y than acetone.

    • @moonbased7796
      @moonbased7796 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Florida (which this episode takes place) it’s hard to find Zoff unless you buy it online (or at least what I can find since there is a website where you can buy it) and since we don’t normally have it without buying it online, acetone is the closest option we have.

      oil and dish soap don't play nicely with feathers, also birds can be weirdly sensitive to otherwise nontoxic chemicals

      Kim Ross Birds and other exotic animals are notorious for being very fragile and very sensitive. They honestly would be too sensitive to the chemicals in dish soap. The method they used here is actually pretty smart. :-)

      That's what I used on a bat that did the same thing, the company that produced the insect traps recommended that. I'd say that would be less toxic than acetone.

    i feel like a bit of coconut oil wouldve done the trick too. My families old apartment had mice and the property manager gave us those glue traps which are really horrible if you leave the mice on them so when they got stuck i took the mouse (glued to the trap) outside and pour vegetable oil over its leg- theyd wiggle out within seconds

    • @artsypupyoungcreativity162

      Birds and mice are very different. Birds are actually super sensitive, you can’t even cook or really do any affective cleaning around them because they can drop in a heartbeat.

    People are so selfish. They decided to get an animal they knew nothing about, and worse they chose an exotic yet didn't even bother to learn basic things about his species. She talks about him not eating for a dangerously long length of time as though she's talking about the weather. As the vet said, for a cockatiel 2 days is a very long time to go without food, and that's assuming he at least drank water. Imagine if she'd just adopted a child and said, in the same tone and context, "well he wasn't eating for 2 weeks, as of yesterday he's been eating, drinking water, but I don't know what to do!" (and I just now decided to take him to a doctor)
    She says about the glue "I don't know if it's poisonous!" Why the hell not? I'm sure that information is included in any introductory book, and pretty much everyone knows glue can be toxic to birds. Most damning though is that regardless of what she knew beforehand, by her own admission she's had days to find out yet chose not to do so.
    At the end, she says "now we have a white and yellow bird, instead of a white, yellow, dirty and sticky bird, and uh, she says that he's healthy, so brand new bird." She cares most about his appearance and not his well being. His health is secondary to whether he looks pretty. Poor birdy. If you don't want to be a pet parent, don't take responsibly for the life of a sentient creature. Get a plant or maybe an ant farm.

      Maybe she wanted a bird to love and this is her first one. Have you thought about that. Yes she should do her research before getting the bird but things happen. So instead of judging her and writing 3 paragraphs then telling her to get a plant or an ant farm be happy the bird is ok. Jesus people these days.😒

      @Privacy Lover, no one when they get a bird for a pet is an expert. It takes experience for any pet owner to learn how to care for the pet. I bet you were not a born expert on computers, caring of pets, and raising children on you day of birth. No one is born an expert on animal care. It takes time and learning to care for our animal pets.

    anyone and everyone says do not buy off the internet unless it is a breeder with a good reputation, ok, they mostly mean cats, dogs, breeds where people are more likely to over breed and not breed good lineage. you should always check refs, their vet, other local vets. research the animal you want to get, i have always loved possums, i had my b/f patrol partner, the kids called her animal lady, she had a large collection of animals that she would take to the schools, i found a family of possums living under a neighbor friends house, and called her to come get them, well with her teaching me i had my first 2 possums, i love them, my service cat is special needs and is very possessive of me she will attack anyone or thing that gets with in 6' of me, so because i am afraid she will kill them, i will not have any pets, when i foster or am nursing an animal, i double cage so furbadass can not hurt or kill them. i still enjoy possums, but i am happy feeding them and petting them outside, i sadly can't feed them at our new house there are just way too many skunks and coyotes. i keep coconut oil with a couple drops of lavender oil, and also a blend of massage oil that won't smell rancid on the skin or air. i use on both my human patients and animal patients to remove tegraderm or bandaging tape adhesive, the oil loosens the clear adhesive bandage they put over iv sites, heart monitor pads ekg tabs. it prevents the skin from tearing and is not as harsh as acetone

      You can’t use oil on a bird since feathers are sensitive with certain things and even if you were gonna use oil a bird like a cockatiel you have to use dish soap (like Dawn) which could stress a bird out.

    How much do you guys paid to do segment shows like this? This is like the most amateur production value I've ever seen in the show. It's blowing my mind how terrible the show is. Dude this is terrible..I'm serious if you guys need good contact for Nat Geo DME LOL. I live in Hollywood and my roommates ex-girlfriend was reducer for Viacom.
