Apone is the name of the sgt from ALIENS played by real life US Marine vet Al Matthews who was also the military consultant for the film. The late Matthews is highly regarded in the ALIEN fandom, especially among the vet fans of the film. I think the devs may have presumed too much to tack the iconic name to a black character who died from being "probed". The game seems more mean spirited than an homage to the scifi genre. This game is actually fun and I like this comment about ignoring other reviews and doing it by himself. Respect where its due. CJU risked and I think it paid off. The game is not bad. I had more fun than with other AAA titles.
The "conclusion" here really came across like the dev ran out of time/money/desire to continue. I'd argue that the game's story elements allude to this the most. Within the context of the rest of the game (which while flawed in places was executed alright), the ending just didn't "fit" with the way the rest of the story was told. The foreshadowing of the rescue mission to save the protagonist's son, the themes in play (shallow as they may have been), and the development of the characters all gave the impression that the game that was released was the first portion of a larger story. It really makes me wonder if funding dried up midway through the project and with all the lines of dialog already recorded it was too late to rework the story into something that would have been more satisfying. NOTE TO THE DEVELOPER(S): (in the unlikely event that they read this) I'm not sure if this ending is what you were intending, but given the rest of the game I have to believe it is not the title you wanted to ship. My advice would be to be straightforward about whatever forced such an abrupt end to the game. Some may disagree, but I feel that it would have been much better to release this in an incomplete state rather than try to tack on the conclusion as it is. The way things are it alienates your audience and damages your reputation, which is a hard thing to maintain in the industry in the best of circumstances. Rare to see Chris get so genuinely frustrated at a game, and I quite understand why. This game does have good ingredients in it, yet it seems they weren't mixed quite right. That ending too jeez, like at least we should've seen the inside of the saucer and Ryan attempting to confront the aliens. Even if he completely failed at least we the audience would know, and the Bob cutscene would still make sense. Perhaps Bob could've gotten a strange signal over the radio while he was driving, to give us hope Ryan is still alive. That would have been a much better sequel hook in my opinion. I do hope the creators don't give up, clearly they have potential. I think if they just tweak their thought process a bit they'd have a solid indie game on their hands the next time. Thanks to CJU for giving this a chance. I did have some fun with it, in spite of everything.
What a _weird_ mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly this game is. So many inconsistencies and very odd choices despite loads of potential. Maybe we'll get a sequel with more information? Not having a map was kind of annoying but I think it added to the tension and feelings of distress. I'd be happy to watch you play a sequel.
Honestly, even with some of the jankiness, you can tell the game definitely has some potential in it. Like, how many indie games bother to have voice acting? Or, hell, even just actual models for OTHER PEOPLE that you talk to and interact with? There's a lot of effort in there, and most of the game isn't that terrible. It's just a shame that, as you said, the ending is so jarring, abrupt, and unsatisfying. Even there was even just a feel of lead up to, y'know.... "See how this plays out IN THE SEQUEL" sort of hook, that'd make it feel at least a little better.

The dog running off into the field after the weird light getting 0 reaction from the main character is a little odd. I'm guessing he doesn't think it's any sort of alien but with everyone boarding up their window, some threat is clearly known and for him to just be like meh, dogs gone, is odd.

What is truly infuriating about this game, for me, is that you as the protagonist get to do A LOT of busywork, saving people, fetching stuff, killing aliens, and in the end you're not rewarded whatsoever for any of that. It really feels like they had enough ideas to start crafting a story, but then didn't know how to finish it. The 'end' doesn't even really feel like a cliffhanger, more like a… loose end. (What about Amy and Matt and the whole biplane idea, by the way?) But as always, Chris, your gameplay and humour makes watching stuff like this worthwhile all the same. Cheers! //Rick
Maybe there'll be a sequel... aboard the saucer, and the rescue. There have been other games with similar endings, like Serious Sam. He's in ancient Egypt. He gets slowly teleported up to the saucer, then you hear him say, "Time for bed kids!" But the ending was just the beginning of the 2nd encounter as the saucer crashes into a different location. So maybe this game will continue on with the story.
Your badass channel has filled me in on a few great horror games I would have missed playing otherwise. There's so much it's hard to be aware of it all. You've also saved me from suffering some absolute bombs too. Thanks for taking the c-4 for me on this one!
1:10 "He said it looked like an alien!" ...uh...if you've never 'seen' an alien, what actually 'does' an alien look like? This game was bad, but like in the good way. Prime comedy janky gold bad. Highly entertaining, so weird and surreal. The dialogue and delivery was hysterical, had me laughing the whole way through. I feel like the entire thing was conceptualised, designed and written by an AI. Simultaneously bereft of content, plot, and gameplay, and about an hour and a half too long. 10/10.
@@AlexOlinkiewicz I'll still see it for myself. If it can at least evoke the sense of dread that the concept of alien abductions were able to evoke back then...then it's good enough for me 😁.
I was excited to see this game, there are so many paranormal horror games out there it was going to be a nice change of pace to see a kind of old-style alien horror. I think a lot of people went in with high expectations, maybe too high? A few of the problems for me are the non-main characters seeming lackadaisical about the craziness that is happening, when you find them they're just sitting and chilling while the main character is running around in terror trying to save everyone. When adding subtitles to video there are markers/placeholders you put it that trigger when you get to a certain time in the video, it may be the same for audio and the markers are not placed far enough apart so basically they trigger on top of each other. Three mechanics that need fine tuning: baseball bat range, no map (or a note at the beginning that says flashing lights are key items), run speed. The ending I can see being disappointing for those that want closure or some answers as to what happens to the main character. It makes me think about some older movies and b-movies that end on a cliff hanger, like the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I'm not sure if that's what they're going for or if they are just setting things up for a sequel.
I wouldn't even consider the ending of Invasion of the Body Snatchers to be a cliffhanger. Based on what the movie shows, you know Earth is effed, and you can get a nice dose of paranoia wondering how many of the people you know already got replaced by pods. ;) edit: ope my bad, I was thinking of the 50s version ending. I will say the final scene in the 70s one gave me nightmares for years, even if it's less than conclusive.
Lots of indie games seem to have trouble sticking the landing. It’s either an abrupt ending like this, or one where the player gets suddenly killed off, or else the game enters a dream like sequence where random things happen.
Funny that you mentioned that Bob reminds you of the character of Woody Harrelson in the movie 2012. He is voiced by Jordan Harrelson, his brother, so I don't think that is a coincidence :)
Ha ha, no way! Didn't know this until you said. You think with how rugged this game's launch was, they would have put that as a bullet point to drive some extra sales.
oh nooooo! Never form your tinfoil hat into a funnel shape! It will attract more signals like an antenna! Always form it into a bowl shape,,as it will reflect all the evil signals!

You upload. Stoked to watch you play this one Chris, right on time as usual.
Goddamn was this game fixated on anal probing. Which is almost appropriate, because that not-ending makes me feel like I took one up the pipe. I wonder if they were all set to create our knight in shining tin foil's heroic rescue attempt and then suddenly ran out of budget. If they had prioritized better we could have gotten a decent ending in exchange for cutting some of those busywork objectives in the middle.
Watching you play nearly anything is always enjoyable. For me, this game was a reminder of how much I want to see The Rockestop Incident (,you did a playthrough of the demo for it)

honestly, the hilariously underwhelming ending and the jank just added to the charm for me. i really loved this one, it was just goofy enough to be entertaining while still keeping things tense, and the self-awareness (or lack of, in some instances) had me laughing all throughout

Love your channel pal as a blind gamer I enjoy watching. Lets me enjoy as sometimes I can not read the story on screen as it's too small. Even though I play on a 200" 4k projector and a 80" lg oled. Just like to say thanks mate.
I'm still watching the video and haven't reached the end yet but I actually really like this game! It def has a charm to it, idk, its clearly not just a quick cashgrab, so imo it doesn't deserve the "terrible horrorgame" tag at all some people asked for. Sure its not perfect. I really do appreciate the solid voice acting, the characters actually being animated, maybe even modeled by the dev/team and not just store bought and I just generally dig the simple but entertaining story idea. Right on time too with the news the FBI leaked about UFO sightings.
Yeah - what can I say? I am a sucker for alien abductions, but the ending took all that away. It was like, “Nyeh nyeh, we fooled you - aren’t you stupid!” I’m pissed off and I feel as if I’ve been disrespected.
This is the most disrespect ending , I have ever seen. It seems like the developers ran out of motivation in middle of the developing process and cut it end like there, by the way, Thank you CJU to give me a good playthrough experience, you are amazing :).
I think I'll have to watch this in several sessions because this is... well, bad. The audio is all over the place, the writing is awful (some of the dialogues seem to have been written by non-English speakers, even though the voice actors obviously speak perfect English), and the story barely makes sense : caravan dude boards up his caravan and has you leaving it by SMASHING its doors, your son gets kidnapped and the game has you go and find nails... Really? I'll come back to this to check how it plays out but I need a little break ;) EDIT after finally finishing the game : it's just a number of fetch quests badly stitched together by a mediocre story, culminating in one of the worst "fuck you, player !" endings in videogame history.
The dialogue is so obviously written by non-English speakers, which isn't a bad thing, but it's funny how stilted the voice acting is because of the awkward dialogue.
I was so looking forward to seeing the inside of the ufo. I thought we might be rewarded with some light at the end after having to wonder around in the dark forever

I wouldn't even consider the ending of Invasion of the Body Snatchers to be a cliffhanger. Based on what the movie shows, you know Earth is effed, and you can get a nice dose of paranoia wondering how many of the people you know already got replaced by pods. ;)
edit: ope my bad, I was thinking of the 50s version ending.
@@jasonsnyder2577 Sno-Ball? Son-Balls Sno-Balls? Where’s the fucking Twinkies? Yes that is a Zombie Land reference.
Was hoping you would play this! Stoked to watch
oh nooooo! Never form your tinfoil hat into a funnel shape! It will attract more signals like an antenna! Always form it into a bowl shape,,as it will reflect all the evil signals!
Thats so weird! I kept seeing this uploaded but knew you didnt upload it so i waited for a while and just today I gave up and was about to watch it on SuperHorrorbro's channel (which i like but you're still my #1) and then Bam! You upload.
Stoked to watch you play this one Chris, right on time as usual.
Totally agree with your perspective
Oh good, Chris is back. Now we can relax.
Clearing my schedule for this one
Goddamn was this game fixated on anal probing. Which is almost appropriate, because that not-ending makes me feel like I took one up the pipe.
I wonder if they were all set to create our knight in shining tin foil's heroic rescue attempt and then suddenly ran out of budget. If they had prioritized better we could have gotten a decent ending in exchange for cutting some of those busywork objectives in the middle.
YES I was hoping you'd do this game.
I got jump scared when you were getting the nails and amo lol! I literally shrieked!!
Watching you play nearly anything is always enjoyable. For me, this game was a reminder of how much I want to see The Rockestop Incident (,you did a playthrough of the demo for it)
After the patch 1.0.6 this game is solid ... and fun
overlapping dialog
36:35 it isn't rocket science ryan. he is a government employee...
1:01:55 ? CJ come on man, don't start acting crazy! we already seen them take our son henry from our house. we know they do follow normal physics!
the ending wasn't expected at all! a 4th wall break and didn't conclude Ryans story. are we to assume ryan failed?
Game's not too bad, actually has funny moments.
Those 10-15 seconds were pretty realistic, imo. 40:29. Tense! 😮
The end SUCKS! 😊
I actually enjoyed the voice acting in this one! ☺️
Thanks for sharing, you're the best! I agree with you about the end of the game, it was truly dissatisfying. Hope you have a great weekend! ❤️
Watching CJU and some horror title before sleeping... seems like a good idea. No nightmares at all... 😆
😂😂
They actually give ou nightmares?
@@cinderellacomplex7 it's a joke lol
@Ivan Volf oh man, something about his narration and tone of voice is so relaxing and smooth! Combined with how funny his commentary is, I love putting on his videos right before bed!
Such an entertaining watch but christ that ending! What were the developers thinking!
weird game could have been a horror, but no!, just wacky.
"Nothing to save this piece of shit ending!" - CJU 2023 🤣😂 Yep, that about sums it up.
How is this not a terrible indie horror game? Still, thanks as always for the entertainment, Chris!
Cause Chris is ridiculously forgiving to terrible and/or boring as crud games.
This game is not that terrible
@@gerardwolf8507 ohhhh yes it is. Lol.
The concept is so cool. If this could be done right it would be so good.
I thought there was still a lot of good, but the ending leaves a bit of a bad taste.
Swing away Chris
After seeing them walk straight into a bullet, maybe there not so smart after all.
Btw, I did like the passage from Ezekiel being quoted in the church,.. nice touch. Also...Chris..'No bullets, no Bibles,is this really America?' Oh the shade...the shade...:)
honestly, the hilariously underwhelming ending and the jank just added to the charm for me. i really loved this one, it was just goofy enough to be entertaining while still keeping things tense, and the self-awareness (or lack of, in some instances) had me laughing all throughout
the game was decent and funny, but that ending, they must be in a rush for finishing it soon, it seems :(
That ending is such a letdown. Thanks for another great video despite that!
I'm just amazed those very solid boards broke to your bat like soggy matchsticks
Just to be clear, I'm 45 minutes in at the time of writing this and what the absolute fuck, lol. I am loving this. Why are the hats so long???
1:03:31 if u look at the grave across from the cop it has your name on it i love it cuz it goes by those 2 movies i can only think of the one signs but there is like 2 others and also i would give it a 6 out of 10 cuz i dont like the way it ends
This is FIRST time I heard "I disliked the game" from you!
Just...whoa!
oof
Even bad bad terrible games had him being a little optimistic or just utterly baffled
This game has to be truly specially bad
@@elvingearmasterirma7241 Absolutely agree with you!
That first alien encounter made me scream 😂
Perfect timing for that video 😂
Love your channel pal as a blind gamer I enjoy watching. Lets me enjoy as sometimes I can not read the story on screen as it's too small. Even though I play on a 200" 4k projector and a 80" lg oled. Just like to say thanks mate.
The game makes me think the devs bit way more than they could chew and went over budget and/or lost funding half way through the development.
Great looking game, absolutely hated the ending so I agree with you.
Le chien est trop mignon 😢 mhan le pépère mon titiiiiuu dog dog mhannnn 😭😭🐕🐕🐾🐾💝💕💟💗💓💖💞
So I guess the baseball is a Signs reference.
No bullets? No bibles? Is this really America?
Lmaoooo
This is the most disrespect ending , I have ever seen. It seems like the developers ran out of motivation in middle of the developing process and cut it end like there,
by the way, Thank you CJU to give me a good playthrough experience, you are amazing :).
Really?
I'll come back to this to check how it plays out but I need a little break ;)
EDIT after finally finishing the game : it's just a number of fetch quests badly stitched together by a mediocre story, culminating in one of the worst "fuck you, player !" endings in videogame history.
Lol your the best!!
i remember the demo being pretty decent, shame it didnt get any better
The dialogue is so obviously written by non-English speakers, which isn't a bad thing, but it's funny how stilted the voice acting is because of the awkward dialogue.
A+ to thisgame solely for the Big Lebowski reference
I was so looking forward to seeing the inside of the ufo. I thought we might be rewarded with some light at the end after having to wonder around in the dark forever
I love watching a gameplay of these game it's like watching a movie 😆
Hmm Chris, having this problem with my current game, not knowing where I am going. We'll both figure it out.
LMAO THIS GAME I SWEAR CHRIS I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE YOU TOOK THE TIME TO PLAY IT!
Yey greyhill incident😂😂
I thought the ending was kind of funny. Guess that mystery man had bad advice. I enjoyed this.
You should really do terrible indie games again. It was fun hearing you shit on bad games as you played them.
This wasn't so bad. Brandon was funny. 👍
I was hoping you’d play this!!
😂" Nothing to save this POS Ending." Hopefully A part 2 is in the making. Has potential , It matters where the Devs take it I guess . Great playthrough as always tho.
