    IMO that shows someone who can afford to drive the cars he's buying. He's not fussed about re-sale value, and he's allowing himself to enjoy the car without restriction. More people need to be like this and enjoy them! At this rate the manufacturers will only give you a 30k mile warranty as that's all people seem to do . . . .

    • @HansBrodiAutomotive
      @HansBrodiAutomotive 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True, I agree a 100% but I think with some of the wealthy buyers it is impossible to do 175k miles. If you own 30 cars like many rich guys do 3k miles per car is a lot

    • @Fioravanti.80
      @Fioravanti.80 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not share the view that people “need to” be like you say. Each to their own. There is nothing wrong or off about wanting to savour the moment by using the car sparingly, and really appreciate those special moments. The icing on the cake is preservation of the value, and with some luck, appreciation too.

      Usually, the gearbox will need to be rebuilt every 100,000km, replacing all the bearings and some of the gears.
      The costs are about 5,000 GBP to 10,000GBP, depends on using brand new parts or used parts, or replaced the entire gearbox. (Incl. labour cost)
      The engine will need to be rebuilt between 120,000km to 150,000km, replacing all the gaskets, bearings, cleanings valves...
      The costs are about 4,000 GBP to 6,000 GBP, depends on using brand new or used parts.
      There's a great chance that the GT3 owner has spent his money twice as much as the GT3 current value...
      These "ultimate" owners really know what they are paying for, and they know what they are seeking. Respect!

    There is a famous 996 turbo (same basic metzger engine) with over 590k miles in the USA. There is an even more famous 996 turbo with over 500k miles that was specially adapted by an F1 parts delivery company to take parts from F1 constructors in the UK to f1 European races. overnight. It would famously drive trough the night to deliver parts before the race faster than anything else! Would be great to see a film on that car and see where it is. By the way you mentioned your 996 40 jahre was basically a Carerra S, there was no C2S in 996 only a C4S.

    I think once you get over the garage queen mileage ‘limits’ it doesn’t make a lot of difference, by that I mean once you pass the low and average mileage of a ‘collector’ car, as the miles grow they make less and less effect on value, so either have a garage queen to look at and as a arguable investment or just drive and enjoy, for me the miles of driving make much more sense and great memories than just an occasional drive or polish.

    These cars just love to be used, they definitely get better. And as you said, with proper maintenance, they just keep going and going and going. I covered 8k miles in my 997 RS in 8 weeks last year, so easy to do in these cars. Great video :)

    I took a picture 3 years ago, during a trackday, the car was a 997.1 GT3 too, mostly drove on track, first engine with any refection, and it had 317 000kms at the time. I've heard recently that it has now more than 400 000 kms, with the same owner who continues to take it on track every month 👌👌

    Great video as always! Air-cooled 911s are known for doing over 200,000 miles with only regular service, I can't see why a 997 GT3 should be different. Metzger engines are sturdy old lumps.

    I love car like these, seem so incredibly wasteful having cars that barely go anywhere in their life. If you are not willing to use and maintain a car properly or can not afford it. Dont buy it...
    I'd perhaps understand if its a 20 million £/€/$ car... Its not just about the wear and tear anymore, a ding and you have to sell your wife and thats a crime so do no do that... and just wrong in every way!! Anyway... its just something very special with cars like these that see significant mileage and thanks to proper maintenance last and drive amazingly, I bet this thing feel as good as any of the 30.000 mile examples.
    And in the comments, when posting other examples, be clear about if you talk miles or km's please, 170.000 km's is still a lot of these but a hell of a lot less than same amount in miles. xD

    Don't fall into the trap of depretiation is the only cost. Account for TCO, and inflation, if you want the real numbers. Regardless, doing 100k miles more for effectively 10k less in resale value is nothing

    I bought it with 158k mileages..Good car. Just to hard on the road and to soft on the track so sold it and bought a dedicated track car and old SC which I’m refurbishing...happy memories though..

  • @sotirispa
    @sotirispa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's a point in time where the car is so old, that it doesn't matter if you drive it more. If it had 100k miles in 3 years, that'd be insane. But it has 175k miles in 13 years. So age has overcome the miles. If you're going to buy a car and keep it for THAT long, just do it. After a point it doesn't depreciate like on start :P
