Tremendous video, and you did a great job showcasing why we love these cars so much. In helping to partially explain the 996.2 GT3 versus 997.1 GT3 you are very correct to point out that the 997 version is much more plush and daily usable than the earlier car, which turns hardcore drivers off, but was also signaling Porsches intention to continue doing that with the 991.1 and newer generations too. Your own 996.2 GT3 is closer in style and type to the 997.1 GT3 RS by definition in terms of not having a sunroof or creature comforts. I truly enjoy my own 997.2 GT3 RS and 997.1 GT2 immensely, but my GT3 RS is the best of the best and the one I'd never sell. I hope that you keep these great videos coming!
Dude cut the crap if you’ve driven a 996 gt3 you’d quit the wise garbage! Porsche engineers want 18 inch wheels but the marketing department want 22’s because that’s what people want. The new 992 is nearly as wide and big as a 5 series it’s all over.
Great video, great car. I own a normal 996 C2 from 1998. Heavily modified (performance only) and its such a joy to drive. I really dont understand the 996 hate. Me personally also think the car is aging well looks wise.
You are so right. I bought a 996 GT3 Clubsport a few weeks ago. I fell in love with the sound in a minute. When you drive it for 10 minutes, the day is saved 😍
I had a 996.1 GT3 for 12 years and was the best car I've ever owned. WAs set up for track days by a local Porsche specialist and a few minor engine mods so making about 400bhp. Really miss that car. Lovely engine sound.
Wow! I'm about to get into a 6.2 GT3, will keep the car stock other than suspension and an exhaust. How did the engine hold up with the mods? Once I get the hang of the car I may tinker with power to see how much extra time i can squeeze out of the car.
Fantastic video (and channel). I echo your comments, nothing quite like the experience of driving this generation of GT3. I have only had mine two months, already added 1600 miles because I can't stop driving her! IYKYK. I chose this car over many other options, including: new Cayman GTS 4.0, 991.1 GT3, 911 50th Anniversary, Cayman GT4, and even a 991.2 manual GT3. The other cars are all great in their own way, but NONE of them gave me the same connected driving experience or put a smile on my face like the 996 GT3. I agree...you can't explain it. The perfect car if you love driving!
I find something special in the 996 GT3, personally for me a gen 1 in red. It's the first GT3, and there's a sense of purity in the design language of the car. I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful ( 992 Carrera looks gorgeous to me ), but as a package it's the one I'd own
My favourite gt3 and much overlooked. Matter of time before people who really enjoy driving their Porsche discover the 996 gt3. A raw driving experience that gradually declines from the 997 version onwards.
Cold starting... that Mezger engine sounds like someone's shaking a bucket of bolts in a metal bucket for a good few minutes. It's not great, is it, until you think that race car engines all sound like they're broken. I only have the 996 Turbo and I always wince when I fire it up when it's cold!
It is a bit harsh on B roads but in todays standards it is not worse then a car with aftermarket sport suspension. I think older 911 have been stiff as well
Oh right, so the 996 mk1 gt3 didn't count and your 996mk2 is the first proper one that was "refined" and "better". But all the subsequent ones that were refined and better are not better. Curious. It sounds very much like you're saying "my car is the best one because it's the one i own."

I still drive it…. 😎👌
@@Inazuma68amazing!
it revs so high... it's achingly beautiful to listen to it
As a fellow owner this is a perfect description of driving a 6GT3, Great Video!

Che macchina.. spettacolare! Saluti dall'Italia!

So true!
Small note; the 997.1 GT3 has traction control, but not stability control. The 997.2 GT3 has both 😇
Pretty accurate description!
I feel like the 996 gets wayyy too much hate, usually just because of the headlights. But, it’s an excellent car to drive.
Aviation LBA i agree, it’s a pleasure to drive especially in base form.
The 996 gt3 is and will be the best gt3 ever made 0-100 and nur times are bs you can’t put a feeling on paper.
Exactly my point
The 996 GT3 is my favorite too. But I wouldn't ming getting a 996 turbo

2:48 says it all - wow
I agree!
No nannies! 🚫
Nice video? Do you have original exhaust?
No the exhaust is a Dundon Motorsport
How do you feel about the 996 turbo? I been seeing them for cheap
The 996 Turbo is one of the few cars that I regret having sold… fantastic analog all rounder
I dunno why I wasn’t subscribed before. Let’s change that🤔😁
Oh hello!
@@thekingmezger hello!😁
The title picture: which wheels are those?
Apexjuha CCW C10
How rough is it to drive the car around town etc. Too stiff to enjoy stock? I have a G50 3.2 and thinking about the 996 gt3. Thanks for the video.
It is a bit harsh on B roads but in todays standards it is not worse then a car with aftermarket sport suspension. I think older 911 have been stiff as well
Sorry Trevor I was not notified of the reply! In stock form it is definitely doable. Mine is a bit too...extreme!

Mk1 was never sold where I live. As far as “refinements”, the subsequent models are just that: new models. They are not an Mk3/4/5/6/7/8 etc
I hate Priuses, too❤️😂
