It doesn’t have much ground clearance IMO. Also it’s traction system is one of those weird not really 4WD capable, but can try to fake it. Make it actually capable of Some Off-Road with at least 9” of ground clearance or more, then I would have considered it. I bought a GMC Canyon AT4 instead. The SUV’s just have too many compromises, and lack luster traction systems. Thats from all companies. Unless you drop major Cash you can’t get much from an SUV. Subaru still Uses CVT’s as if the world doesn’t know they suck. At least where I am in Canada there isn’t anything worth buying, unless you get a proper Off-Road calable vehicle IMO.
@@DrSinisster All good points. I'm a long time Tacoma owner. I'm looking seriously at the GMC AT4. With Honda's motocross history, I'm hoping they will bring some more competition.
True; except for two major downsides: aggressive power cutting when tested in sloped snow covered roads, and clutch pack overheating in off road testing which shuts off the motor. They need better cooling for the clutch packs in the AWD system
@@divvieit only “overheats” in cases of really aggressive differential wheel spin. And the Pilot is a lot less prone to it. JonDZ and several others have been all over the place and not had many issues if at all. Also, traction control can be fully defeated with a secret handshake.
Let me know what you think of driving sports tv experience. It’s not overheating btw, it’s simply power cutting at the most inopportune moments in the latest pilot, not the prior gen as Jonzd has. So maybe they got more conservative with latest gen
@@divvie I’ve seen Driving Sports TV’s videos and all of the others. I have both generations of the system. The overheating hasn’t really been an issue, and I’ll go watch Driving Sports TV’s videos again, but from what actual Trailsport owners have said is that there are some calibration issues with the Pilot (such as it not holding a manually selected gear long enough, but none of it is anything that can’t be changed. Expect the Passport to expand capability quite a bit beyond the Pilot.
@@alvilla701That’s still not much. 9” is the starting point IMO, and a proper Traction system like 4WD with Lockers. Else you get the overworked, braking systems or clutch systems, using a load of energy on components, overstressing and heating them. I just can’t see any of these basic SUV “Off-Roaders” have some capability worth calling Off-Road Capable.
@@DrSinisster is never going to be enough, even a fully loaded Rubicon is not enough for many. What honda, subaru, etc are looking for, is What most people really need, which is a vehicle great for the city and able for some off road.
Multiple Jeep SUV’s have been unibody and they will wheel the crap out of a Toyota. Has nothing to do with unibody and is instead limited by wheel travel, which is harder on an independent suspension. That said, this won’t ride and handle like a Conestoga wagon either, so Honda moved the bar toward driving on-road while still maintaining decent performance off-road.
So pumped for this! I hope they have atleast 9” of ground clearance 🤞🏽
Finally Honda does what they will be so capable at doing, making a vehicle with real off-road chops. Kudos.
So we can conquer the offroad trips to Whole Foods and Costco?

This looks really promising. A lot of people don’t realize their sh-Awd and RTM-4 torque vectoring is amazing and fantastic off road.

Look up the tests done by Driving Sports TV

Driving it in Moab Thursday. Will keep ya posted!
My next big purchase. Gonna wait for 2-3 years for them to work out the kinks before plopping down some hard cash and buy it.
Looks like it needs more ground clearance though. 8 inches is mall crawl height.
Cause of the new tire size, is getting almost 1 inch higher, so I believe around 8.9 inch

You know what would make it stand out? If they put legendary manual trans Honda is known for.
Honda Password become offroad car? Wow, I Like it
They need a body-on-frame model. This unibody thing cannot compete with Toyota off-roaders.

exactly
Look at the current Pilot to get an idea of what is coming.
Why the hell can't they do something with the Ridgeline
If it doesn't get too expensive (like toyota), so far I think I'll buy one
What Auto Show will the debut?
no it’s a front wheel drive based wal mart car for grandma.
Not with 8 inches of ground clearance lol
I hope they didn't screw this up by adding useless third row seats..
The pilot has the 3rd row the passport has never offered it
@@frankmurguia yes... I hope a *genius at Honda didn't decide to add it.
