    Something that wasn't mentioned in targeting that is particularly useful, especially for tanks, is if you hold LB/L1 and press up and down on the d-pad, you will cycle through the enemy list

    • @concerninghobbits5536
      @concerninghobbits5536 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I feel like this wasn't working for me unless I'm just stupid, but what did work is holding either trigger then pressing either bumper cycles through ONLY enemies, and it hard targets them so if you don't want to soft target it's useful. Otherwise you can set shortcuts with LB and the face buttons to activate custom targeting.
      For now I'm trying out setting the dpad to only target allies for healer, and I use either the hard target to select enemies when I wanna attack or if I'm just fighting and not healing I have an L1+X toggle to just normal target enemies. I also set toggles for targeting EVERYTHING if there's ever a random object or npc that I can't target easily with my settings, so that normally I can target less things and not accidentally target my minion all the time or something.

      Iirc correctly from my stint in 2020, isn't LB the limit break button? So that would be crazy if you accidentally set off LB3 when you're just trying to target lol.

      Left bumper/L1 and up/down on the d-pad definitely scrolls through the active enemy list, and is useful for provoking or ranged attacking enemies you see you lose agro for (if the enemy doesn't have a red square next to its name, it's killing your party members because you don't have its agro. Notice for new players)

    Adding a couple fun ones:

      With the latest updates to the accessories app, you can actually set the paddles to keyboard keys, and then if you disable "direct chat input" in the keybind menu, you can use those keys as additional binds (without disabling that setting, any keyboard input goes directly into the chat box), rather than just remapping other controller buttons.

    As of an update last year, you can actually set the Elite s2 paddles to keyboard keys - and since FFXIV supports simultaneous controller+key board input, that means you can effectively get four additional button inputs (you just have to disable the "direct chat input" toggle in the keybind menu), rather than just rebinding to existing controller buttons.
    I'm also personally using a chat pad attachment, so I also have some basic hotbars bound to keyboard (chat pad) buttons for out-of-combat stuff (UI panels like character sheet, inventory, duty finder, quest journal, etc, job switching, utilities like teleport and return, etc).

    I haven't even finished the video but just you explaining the hotbars and how they work has changed my life. No, seriously, I tried reading guides on how the hotbars worked but they weren't intuituive. This is the first time I've understood the way to set them up and make use of them. I've instantly started reorganising my skills and making use of shortcuts I never even dreamed of now my hotbars are tidier. Experimenting with macros is probably my next aim. I tried playing keyboard and mouse on PC (after struggling on console with the controller a little) but keyboard/mouse controls triggered my motion sickness so I went back to PS4/5 and just got more used to the controller functions. But I definitely wasn't using the controller to it's full potential or as efficiently as I could.

    Ive been using the elite series 2 controller for about 6 months now and love it. The extra paddles on the back are so handy for quick access to important skills like swiftcase raise, dashes and interupts. I don't use the inbuilt controller mode and instead custom keybind all of keys to better suit. I use the D pad and modifiers to control enemy and ally targeting. Flying on a mount is one of the few things is akward and I switch back to my keybord for that, but I wouldn't go back to keyboard now.

    I’d suggest changing “Switch target circle to target select” as that circle target is weird. Also you can create targeting profiles that you can then select with left bumper plus a face button. I have one so I only select enemies, one for selecting friendly targets (in case I see a fellow adventurer in need of a heal, and finally one for when I am in town and want to interact with everything from players to minions.

But im not a Friend of the L2 first then R2 extra Bars so i have the same Bar regardles if i press L2 or R2 first. Happened to me quite a time when i was busy that i pressed the Wrong button first. Now i have only 1 Bar where i have the AoE Rotation for all of my Classes.
    Also i have my most used Skills always on the Facebuttons since i want to use them without taking my thumb off the Analoge Stick. So we share the same mindset.
    Also since youve mentioned TOP Monitors....progging it with a Controller with Stickdrift was so much Fun (not) 😂😂. I bought the PS5 Edge Controller right at the Next Day where you can replace your Stick Modules. Since then i always have 1 replacement Module just in Case.

    Where controller really shines is when you pair an elite 2 with ReWASD or scuff envision with its default software. ReWASD allows you to not only map keyboard binds to any button or stick, but it lets you do key combinations and additional programming layers. Scuff has the same options. You can squeeze way more functionality than you already are. Such as mapping LT+RT to a back paddle as well as RT+LT. this opens up the second hot bar with 1 button instead of 2 allowing for more effective combos.

  • @Bamuxx
    @Bamuxx 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the guide, I've looked at several controller guides now and find yours the best explained so far.
    I started with the free trail version a few days ago, I'm currently playing on PC with mouse and keyboard.
    I normally play MMORPGS with a MMO mouse, so I have access to a lot of buttons. However, since I also plan to play FF 14 on the Steam Deck from time to time (it runs amazingly well), I'm thinking about switching to a controller so that I can use the same setup on the PC and Steam Deck. Seems to be even easier with your setup than with mouse and keyboard.
    At the end you mention the use of macros, which I find very interesting because my old MMORPG RIft that I played benefited massively from these kinds of macros. In RIft, I was able to pack many individual skills into a macro and thus significantly reduce the number of keys required. Theoretically, this should also work for many skills, for example for skills that have no cooldown in combination with skills that have a cooldown.
    At the moment I find the combat system in ARR quite slow because of the long global cooldown, but I hope that will improve over time. I decided to go for a monk because it's supposed to have the lowest global cooldown.

    • @99_Vit
      @99_Vit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Using macros for skills is typically not recommended because it can introduce some weird delay. You can always try them out, but just watch to see if your GCD is rolling smoothly. If it gets hung up at all, the macros might be causing some issues.
      Monk is fun. It does have the fastest GCD right now, but it doesnt have too many off-GCD abilities. There are a few jobs that feel a bit busier at endgame. (Ninja, dragoon, machinist come to mind). No matter what job youre on things are a bit slow in the earlier levels. They all get so much better nearing level cap.

      @cstaie85 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I play Dark Knight, Red Mage, Black Mage, and Reaper mostly. The key to macros is making sure they are order present based on Proc. For instance my Reaper has a macro that contains a bugg on a long cooldown that also procs plentiful harvest, and then enshroud and communio on the same button because they work sequentially. I haven't seen any lag on it since none of the skills use gcd. I just have ti ensure I am not hitting it at the same time as a queued action is executed or it may not trigger. Has only happened 1 time out of thousands of uses. Only issue with macros is the red text saying invalid action when you get stuck in low level content on roulette. I sadly made a macro video many years ago and haven't updated it.

    I started on the PC client back in 2.0 but with an Xbox 360 contoller. The only reason I used a contoller was because of jobs that had positionals. Now one thing about contollers I hate is when I have to use abilities or weaponskills/spells that are on my D-pad and not the buttons. I use free camera movement on contoller as well, so when I hit back on the left stick my character turns immediately.

    I actually find a gaming keypad with a joystick for a toggler + a 12 key MMO mouse + keyboard to be OP for FFXIV. With that combination, you have the ability to control with comfort 3 hotbars. You can achieve the same by using shift and ctrl as togglers with your pinky. It's just not as cozy. I tried the gamepad way of playing, and while I found it strong, it has a sharp learning curve and it's only 8 abilities per cross hotbar. Hence, by default, you can toggle between 3 bars with a max of 24. That's not enough space for many jobs. If you're a fan of playing a job without using every single ability you have as you should, your DPS etc. will suffer. If you mod, you can unlock a fourth giving you a total of 32.
    With that, you have to memorize shoulder button pressing order in order to access all four, and it's too easy to mix these up.
    With the keypad+mmo mouse method, you have 12x3 hotbars, a solid 36 with only two togglers! This reduces the time required to access a given ability to the point where battle feels fluid.
    To me it feels like a no-brainer which of these two is better. What do you think?

      I wanna see an image of that setup, sounds interesting

    • @user-zp1se9du9z
      @user-zp1se9du9z 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CMReina It's simple. You get a Razer Tartarus or another gaming keypad with a thumbstick on the side (why that matters is while you can use it for a camera if you want, you can also bind up and down to ctrl and shit or alt and toggle which hotbar is selected). Then you get any serviceable 12 key on the side mmo mouse. You don't need to much special binding for it, since it works by default, though you might want to bind a few things to the aux buttons (the middle mouse button) left and right clicks of the wheel, etc, but keep the 1-= default. The keybinding that switches trays based on which held (ctrl, shift or alt) depend on the per tray keybind, so you'd have to set hotbar 2 and 3 to use one modifier each 1-=. The end result is far more powerful than using a gamepad.

    • @user-zp1se9du9z
      @user-zp1se9du9z 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CMReina Bonus Tip: By holding the right mouse button while playing ffxiv, you can move far more fluidly with AWSD than with a gamepad joystick. I like to bind my wheel click to a sprint macro that uses Sprint first and then Peloton (since Sprint comes up slower). That way if you're on DNC, BRD or MCH, and out of combat, you get peloton in between sprint mashing and stay running as fast as possible at all times. Great for in between mobs in dungeons too. Keeps the whole party moving fast. You might get a commendation or two for that alone sometimes.

    I'm not sure about double-tapping triggers to access more hotbar buttons. Especially if considering ogcd weaving, it costs a lot of time compared to single-tapping a modifier. I came with curiosity rather than a genuine interest in adopting controller, anyway, but I'll happily stick to my MMO mouse.

    • @99_Vit
      @99_Vit  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      When doing high end raiding there’s not much reactive healing. You typically will learn very quickly when the damage is coming and you can plan accordingly. If people are making mistakes, just keep an eye on the party list, but there’s usually plenty of time to scroll through the party list between your casts. Astro is the only tough healer for controller, but that should be changed in a month with dawntrail

    Hello Vit, nice video! I started playing with controller and I own 2x xBox Elite series 2 (one custom directly from Microsoft) and recently got a PS Dualsense Edge, which is the elite version of PS.
    No matter which game you play, stick drift can cause poor gaming experience and even kill the joy. So to get a simple understanding, I want to take Call of Duty as a reference, because the game has very good controller settings.
    Elite Series 2, out of box first minute deadzone on both sticks were 5 to 7, yes both controllers I own almost identical deadzones. I never contacted Microsoft, because that's something, I don't wanna deal with. The first one, I used about 1 year, it didn't go worse and than I just thought get a second one, maybe will be better.... nope.... it's frustrating and there is no way to fix it without killing the warranty.
    I was just fed up and for my curiosity I did get a dualsense edge, it's even more expensive and seems like these extra bucks are worth it. Out of the box left stick 0 deadzone, the right one had just on one axis 1. I immediately fell in love, it felt so much better and the best about this controller? The sticks are very easy replaceable. They made possible to open the front and just pull them out like an USB and put in the new one if it's required. They are selling 1 stick for round about 25 bucks. I use this controller for couple months now, no issues or it didn't get worse.
    If you do some research on reddit, you will find threads about xbox elite stick drift issue. It's really sad, because I think xBox has better natural layout and gives the feeling of holding smth high quality. I don't know if they fixed the issue yet on new ones, but if not, I can not recommend them and would spend some more for an Edge from Playstation.
    With DSX (On Steam) you can remap every button on Edge. Also the edge doesn't has 4 paddles on back, in my opinion that's fine, 2 are enough for me.
    System config ---> Gamepad settings ---> Stick Sensitivity mine is at 0 without issues so far. (For those don't play on controller or didn't know that, lower is better)

    Game feels so much better on control once you get everything setup. I also remember turning off names and such what things aren't selected or in battle. • @99_Vit
      @99_Vit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use a Corsair K70 keyboard and I like it. Either of those jobs are way more fun than summoner imo. I think ninja is one of the best designed jobs in the game right now. Dragoon is up there too, but it's getting reworked in a few months in Dawntrail, so who knows what it will be like then. Ninja is one of the most fun jobs early on as you level. Dragoon gets a lot of the fun stuff much later on. Those are my two favorite melees for sure though

    • @Vokcas
      @Vokcas 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ninja is great but has a mundra issue, always had one can be quite punishing getting it wrong but overal a fun class and a very handy "grinding" class. Dragoon however is the more friendlier of the two but also the easier class. Problem with Dragoon is, the level experience for the class isn't very good due to how the job scales, after 70+ the job gets into it but this will most likely change again in Dawntrial.
      Keyboard doesn't really matter, anything that can plug in will suffice, I don't think Xbox has real keyboard support to use the many keyboard bells and whistles, I would however use a bluetooth keyboard if it was me.

    • @Vokcas
      @Vokcas 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@double_joseph327 Monk is a very easy class to get into, more friendlier then Ninja that's for sure. Best way I would describe monk is like driving a car or operating machinery, you always know where you are going next in the move list. Dawntrail is going to see smaller hit boxes so the position from Flank and Rear will see a bigger play; personally I prefer Ninja flexibility, I feel Ninja spikes a bit better in term of utility and damage at the moment you need it rather then Monk strong consistent approach.
      Leveling monk I found was pretty friendly, you can't use your big attacks until later levels 70+ but with how the class works you get the majority of your kit you will be using early and scaling doesn't really play a big impact to it.
      What I would really do is level a class to 30 and then take it into Palace of the Dead, you don't need to do your job scales to use the skills; gives you a better environment to see if you gel right with the class.

    why are you duplicating actions in macro for the Earthly Star/Dragon Sight/Shirk? If first one fails, the rest will fail, as well, since they will be executed instantly in like a millisecond.
    also it you can have a macro like this instead of 3 versions:
    /ac "Action_name"
    /ac "Action_name"
    If you have a target selected (which can be you, so no need for version) - it will place it on target. If no target is selected or target is out of range, you will get the circle

    All hail mouse and keyboard! Nothing beats my Glove80 (for ergo actually, but ends up being way better than actual gaming keyboards); and SwiftpointZ, a gaming mouse that gives a lot of buttons that are actually intuitively unique, easy to distinguish and use while you maintain your grip. Getting both will set you back $600 but I don't think a controller beats 18 buttons (13 buttons are reported, but deep pressure click on the same buttons can be used if mapped wisely), and the thumb cluster on the Glove80 cannot be beat. The number of unique "mental areas" to spread controls on my characters/hotbars is so insane and it all happens from very nuetral postisions.

    Been playing controller for a year now. Definitely was an adjustment after playing keyboard for 7 years. Absolutely stellar tho. Got my pentalegend on monk (which is the actual busyest job y'all ninjers are just pretenders).
    Only thing that is somewhat problematic are direction mechanics (monitors in TOP, towers in dsr p3, p8s snakes etc. etc)
    You can remedy this with some 3rd party plugins that allow you to place a standard/legacy toggle macro on hotbar.
    Gotta say tho, healing on controller is still very cumbersome. Micromanaging partylist healing (point healing, rescuing, astro cards etc.) Is painful.
