fun fact they were originally supposed to be in the animated film but were replaced Abu and the name Kassim was given to Aladdin's father but slightly changed to Cassim
Abu works better in the animated sense. These work a lot better on stage where everything is spread out and there is room to dance. Abu is able to work in tight quarters. Aladdin would also probably seem like a needy teenager if he had these guys.

+ShadowDJ94 yeah pretty much but they are also in the replacement of the monkey. They are just Aladdin's friends who get into mischief and help aladdin through out the show. Pretty cool guys if you ask me :P
Simple answer: They are indeed comic relief supporting characters for Aladdin. More in-depth answer: Omar is the sheepish type (a wimp if you will) and is presumably the youngest of the friends, Babkak is overly-obsessed with food and frequently makes references to middle eastern dishes. Kassim is the collected and mature one that essentially keeps the other two from going completely crazy.
Shachar Har-Shuv Abu the monkey got replaced by Aladdin's 3 friends, who largely sing this song. This happens right after Jasmine sneaks out of the palace and where she first meets Aladdin...the slower parts with no lyrics are where she arrives at the marketplace and then when Aladdin sees her.

This song's been stuck in my head since I first heard it!
So glad that Howard's original songs revived in broadway!
Funfact: Both Aladdin's trio of thief pals and this song were Howard Ashman's ideas before he died, similar to Proud of Your Boy.
good point know the west end actors for Babkak and Aladdin as well
The two 'These Palace Walls' segments of this song are to die for, sounds beautiful.
+Ella Rose Thomas I thought I was the only one who knew about it! At last! I'm not alone!!!
The three guys should get their own movie.
No one can replace Abu, but I gotta admit that this song is completely amazing!
My favorite of the Broadway-exclusive songs! Has a nice beat!
I like how this is addressing the same theme "I Steal Everything" does in the Twisted Musical.
that's what I thought!
+Brooke B I actually like "Twisted" better!

I saw it a few years ago. I remember some good bits and pieces of it, it was GLORIOUS
Abu was replaced by 3 whole people. He's just that good!
We need a jazz or big band cover for this
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!
I totally prefer them over Abu. They're so likeable and talented
You know what I want? To see these guys AND Abu in the same story
Cure Idol Smile I can picture Abu having a solo with one of the guys announcing it.

Does this song remind anyone of the Marauders?
YES
that was my first thought
yep. 100% i feel like writing a musical about their antics would definitely be James and Sirius' idea
Yep!! This is like their theme song our something like that
Well now it does! :D
at 00:59 i honestly expected them to say "Bronies"

Does anyone have the "Baghdad" version of this song? The pause on Ag-ri-bah just breaks the flow.
I do

Yo I feel u same thing
Cassim Is The King Of Thieves And Aladdin's Dad.
i saw this show in NY
Bulkhead, Hot Shot, BB (Bumblebee), Smokescreen.
Oh yeah can I join your group?
SO...can someone tell me how these three would be discribed? I have not seen the show, but I can understand that they're comic relief, right?
+ShadowDJ94 yeah pretty much but they are also in the replacement of the monkey. They are just Aladdin's friends who get into mischief and help aladdin through out the show. Pretty cool guys if you ask me :P
