    nice catch about his head.
what I find difficult in spinorama (besides technical elements like not losing your puck) is 2 elements - the decepting move in the center that D needs to buy, otherwise you will just spinorama yourself into the D. the second difficult part is to accelerate off spinorama if you are not shooting right away

      Thanks Aleksei!
You're spot on about the deceptive element, if you don't convince the defence you're going up the middle you're going right into them, and probably sitting on the bench right after hahaha.
How to accelerate out of the spinorama is to land on the outside edge and crossunder immediately. It is very challenging but doable!

Great breakdown! I have worked on this a lot. The BW Crossunder is critical and something a lot of people miss. On the the ‘looking down’ it is pretty much a necessity if you want to shoot a good backhand coming out of the spinorama. It would be worth exploring the ways in which fakes should be set up. You need the defender to bite on your cutting middle to get the most separation out of the move. This move can be used in other areas of the ice too. Good job!

Thanks! I agree the backwards crossunder is the most challenging, my backwards crossunders aer weaker on my forehand side and that was causing my FH side spin to be weaker as well.

you know how there's like total body exercises? or exercises that work the most muscles at once. anyway i think his spinorama plays, whether to score or to pass for a tap in, are probably the most total skill move in all of hockey. just the sheer number of things you have to be good at at once to successfully do one in a game.

    • @TheDownhillSkater

Cool thought! A lot does have to go right to execute the spinorama. But, if I were to use that analogy of "full body exercises" I would say the corkscrew, 10&2 or stutter and outside edge roll, are your squat, bench and deadlift as they are the most translatable to other mechanics.
The thing with the spin is that it's kind of an isolated movement, in that it doesn't translate much to the other mechanics, the punch turn is really the only comparable.
      Thanks for the comment!

@@TheDownhillSkater i mean more the total play. the spin is nothing in itself. it is a means to an end. and the end - pass or shot - is also an insanely high skill play, maybe more than the spin.

@@HockeyNationHD Gotcha! For sure, the finish is the hardest part.
