One time I dropped the bar on myself and had no one to pick it up for me, so I literally just sat there with the bar on my chest until I regained my strength to lift it back up and rack it 😂🤦🏽♂️
I remember when I couldnt bench press 350lbs for 6th rep I had to roll the bar on my abdomen then take a sit and take it off. Regaining strength under 350lbs bar is a mission impossible

I followed this technique since this video release and my 1rm is higher now. I was hitting 225 about 6-7 reps and 1rm was 295. now I'm doing 225 about 12 reps easy and my 1rm is 335lb no spot. All I want is 405 and then I'm chillin. Mike always bringing the good info

@@baileysage2826 just keep benching. Get stronger. By the time you're lifting big weight your chest will have grown. You'll also learn a shit ton about yourself along the way. But if you want to feel your chest more try this for fun: partial 3/4 reps. Touch the bar to your chest and don't go higher than 3/4 of the way. Do a max Rep set. Have fun!
Also people, you MUST.....MUST have a strong back. If your not training your back, than don't even think about having a big bench because it isn't going to happen.

Great video! When you said go up in small increments(5 lbs, 10 lbs, etc.) that really helps and just lift that until you start throwing it and then move up. That's one of the best tips alot of people overlook. Also work your triceps and back that helps too.
Here in Sweden all gyms are open, and just a few of them closed for a few weeks due to the covid-1984, they start to open up more and more places now (little by little) around Europe so that´s nice to see...

I took 80% of my max, going from 5x3 to 5x4, and I definitely increased my max squat(I pause on all reps). Your body gets used to that weight more, increasing your max. I still don't fully understand it, but it has worked out for me twice now. So, if you want a straightforward answer, spam 80 to 85 percent, and you will gain something.
This guy speaks facts start of light thats what I did I use to bench 95 then later on move to 165 now im at 195 that was my goal and I completed yesterday and the day before now my for this January coming up I want to be at 225 :)

“5 weeks post-op, wtf is your excuse”. I’m nearly 5 weeks from a shoulder dislocation torn labrum torn bicep shaved off cartilage and much more. Couldn’t raise my arm past my hip or lift any weight for that matter. Surgery is still 50/50 but I’m Giving rehab hell and I’m now bench pressing 60lbs dumbells, weighted overhead pressing and beginning to get back to pull-ups. Great vid Mike, great motivation!

This is great, this what I’m doing and I’m getting stronger every week in a half to two weeks, i discovered it on my own, I never heard of any one else doing it until this video today May 8, 2020 I’m 66 years old and have been lifting weights since 1974 and just discovered this technique last year, I work out better by my self and I stop using clamps on the bench press years ago, do to the same reason you stated.

I use strength training in order to obtain a high speed for the sport of cycling. Therefore, being too big and muscular would be a disadvantage to a swimmer or cyclist. Remember to be yourself.
Here's an example: I was lifting weights for over 6-8 months. Picked up muscle mass and bench press increased dramatically along with the leg press (540 pds.) weighing in at 190pds. When summer time came around I pulled out the bicycle and couldn't even ride for a half a mile. I was exhausted (out of breath) and felt the muscle holding me back and weighing me down. It was very complicated compared to when I wasn't muscular. I was out of breath and gave up and caught the bus home. Whereas before I could ride 8 miles without no problem. I decided to lose the muscle.
@@bealltho1 I was trying to outline the safest way to bench. I don't like spotters because they vary and you're not lifting all the weight, tough to gauge actual strength/progress. If I use a spotter it's for lift off only, then I use safety bars If I can't get it, then I can't get it until I can really do it on my own. However, lifting to failure is old school. Experts suggest an RPE of 8 for optimum growth.

Good advice. Getting a pump in my lats and biceps first always seemed to help stabilize everything too. Learned that one by accident.

A better option is to put the bench inside the squat rack and adjust the safety bars to the height of your chest
