I really like the lid for the upper compartment. That's not something that I've seen before in other videos on these. Usually they just use bungee straps over the top of the "lid" rather than making an dedicated lid for it. Using another crate to make an offset is a great idea. Fortunately, I don't have need for that mod, but it is definitely worth keeping in mind. Thanks for this!
Im halfway through doing this setup. I scored 3 milk crates for free last night from a service station. Bottom crate is untouched, mid crate is cut down to create a smaller top compartment that hinges, third one is cut right down to create a lid that hinges. Im going to add a few rod holders and a tube for my anchor, yabbie pump and net. Best thing is it can be removed and used as a seat if I pull up to the shore for some Beach/bank fishing. Might have to attach a beer cooler too, LOL.
Very nice crate. I just zip tied pool noodles to the bottom of my crate to combat that worthless hole. Not a stable kayak, but for the price...it is awesome. 👍🍺🎣
Couldn't you just use a couple 2x4s attached to the bottom to raise it over the cover? Basically just runners so it technically wouldn't have to be 2x4s.

Very nice! Probably the best thought out design I've seen. I will use your ideas, especially the top cover.
great job, the lid on the upper compartment makes lots of sense. thanks
great crate. I really like the upper compartment and the tie-downs keeping it so snug back there.
Great build - love the upper compartment.
