  • Gregg Alexander, songwriter and musician of New Radicals fame, stopped by the GRAMMY Pro Lounge at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards to chat with Jonathan McHugh. The Oscar-nominated songwriter, who stepped away from center stage after disbanding New Radicals, spoke about his return to the spotlight with the critically acclaimed “Lost Stars” from Begin Again and why he prefers collaborating rather than writing on his own.

Gregg seems like a very friendly, down-to-earth guy. Very genuine, how he displayed himself there is exactly how he is all the time; you can just tell.

The only one who can perform the song as it should be performed is Gregg himself. I dont feel a thing when I hear anyone else trying to replicate the original song.

Thank you! New Radicals for this consecrated band that marked epochs, incredible years of success. Inspired songs that entered the history in our hearts. And that reminds us of the times of high school and all our youth! Congratulations on all the beautiful songs! Sometimes we wonder where this wonderful band is from here in Brazil. We love friends !!! A kiss in the heart of each one of you! Thank you.

Ha. I don't think Greg was alive when Wedding Bell Blues came out. Now I feel old as Methuselah. Love your work Greg. Keep writing. "A group." That's funny.

I am a fan of Greg Alexander and his music and he's got legitimate credentials and a lengthy resume
The problem I have with him is his attitude is not always been the best something he made a comment about the New Radicals claiming that they're hit song was you get what you give and then of course he thought the line where he is insulting I guess you want to call and he calls out about four or five different of his then supposedly colleagues and he made the comment that he broke up the New Radicals because they were a one-hit wonder band which to me basically says we you don't like working with a team you want to be yourself and be independent that's fine but don't blame the people that you're working with because this group that you put together didn't really turn out the way you wanted it to
For someone that said that he liked the Performing pretty much took such a Hiatus that well I don't want to work with any of those guys anymore and here he is working with several of them on various different project they just can't be a band and make music it just doesn't make any sense it's contradictory it tells me that he's not really a team player and he just wants to be more of the writing and production aspect of it he doesn't really want to perform and that's fine if that's what you want to do then say it don't sit there and bad mouth anyone

You should stop reading between the lines and adding your opinion and assumptions. You don’t have a clue about him, the band or either of their thoughts. One thing is for sure any house band can play any song on that album without breaking a sweat. So if that was the cases the band should’ve listened to the album one more time, and realize the one person doing something not heard before.
