I had a big trouble figuring out Steam on Linux Mint, but it eventually got to run, even if I have to launch it via the terminal every time. But when I tried on other distros with KDE, it worked pretty well (Fedora worked instantly and the most straight forward) but after having it running on your PC, getting your games is great.
I'm enjoying playing games on Linux! currently on MX-Linux XFCE (a Debian based distro)..installed Steam via MX package installer (~ the .deb version) and it has been smooth sailing so far! anyway for stability isn't it recommended to avoid flatpaks? I do install flatpaks but only if I have to or the app from apt package manager is not available. great video! Liked!
Hey - thanks! I'm not a huge gamer myself, but I've had a good experience with everything I've played so far. Recently, that's been things like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Warhammer: Total War 3. They all run smooth for using Proton via Steam on Debian 12. I think the only snag you'll run into would be games that use a kernel-level anticheat solution, like Fortnight. Some of those aren't supported on Linux -- not because they can't run on Linux -- but because the publishers just don't want to for some reason.
Yep! It's the default session for both GNOME and KDE on Debian 12, although you can still choose X11 if you prefer. Wayland has been pretty seamless for me so far, although I should mention that I only run AMD GPUs.
@@Community-Compute I'm using kde on debian 12 with wayland. I like Wayland specially on fedora kde, but on debian 12 I see some bugs in the window. For example when I open Firefox I see that on the right it isn't open at all, it seems like there is a little open strip where I can see the Desktop... it's very weird...
Currently using LMDE6 with RTX4070 with latest 565 drivers. Best distro so far.
Im never comment on any videos, but tbh, great tutorial, switched from windows to debian finally. Thanks man! Keep it up!
Thanks for commenting! Glad it helped. Welcome to the free realm :)
choose another distro as a newbie, like mint or ubuntu

Really good video, did the same with Kubuntu 24.04 and works fine, thank you!
Glad it helped!

I wish I had known this six months ago
I have been using the .deb version of steam all these years. But the updated drivers i need to look into. Thank you
No problem! Let me know how it goes. If the .deb package is working fine for you, no need to switch!
Amazing video. Very well explained. Whats youre overall expierence with games through proton?
