    Love them or hate them the PL is what it is today because of Man Utd and seeing one of the biggest sporting institutions in the country being run into the ground is disgraceful.

    From an Ipswich Town Fan, Neville is totally right about the structure of the club. Town were rotten from the core under the previous owner for 15 odd years, and then new owners come in and rejuvenate the club from top to bottom, upgrade stadium and fan experience, upgrades on training ground, bringing in the right type of CEO, Coaches and players, bringing back the community trust etc. Yes they spent a bit of money on players but not huge amounts in todays terms. Now look at us in 2 years or so of new owners.

    GN is absolutely right, United problems can't be sorted by changing managers, players or even pouring money in (look at Chelsea)
    It all starts from the top, look at City in 2008, an underachieving club who'd had a brief moment of glory in the 60's
    In 2008 City's new management started by looking around to see what club they wanted to emulate and Barcelona was the one.
    A new owner, a chairman of one of their own, a Barcelona CEO, a Barcelona Director of Football and eventually the star of Barcelona/Munich coaching.
    It still took City many years to become the powerhouse it is now but it all started from the top down.

    Something that's been lost since Alex Ferguson left is the ruthlessness to move players on who aren't cutting the mustard. There is a long list of players over the last 10 years who have, or are currently, outstaying their welcome - Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Fred, Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay etc.... These are all players that Fergie would have moved on after maybe one poor season, but these days they hang around for years on end. He also probably wouldn't have signed many of them in the first place, but that's another issue.

    I think Gary really overstated the importance of the stadium and facilities. Look at Feyenoord's philosophy, which, of course, you have to be relative to their league. But they thrive and purposely try to replicate that working-class/grounded approach. It represents the city of Rotterdam and actually promotes a successful culture. Manchester shares similar values as Rotterdam, and historically, United has wanted to bring through top British talents and showcase a similar philosophy. I'm not saying the stadium and facilities shouldn't be upgraded, but don't be fooled into thinking it's necessary for setting a standard of excellence. A standard of excellence comes from the club's cultural values, and sometimes, your environment (stadium & facilities) need to be assessed to see how to best communicate those values.

    • @j.s3300

    • @nostalgeomusic
      @nostalgeomusic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @j.s3300 yes, but this was an attempt to attract players because they lacked the prestige (they have it now, of course). Not to mention owners who were willing to splash endless amounts of cash as possible to manufacture this status. United has always had prestige and appeal. I'm not saying upgrading the facilities shoukdng happen, just don't use it as a mask to cover the more underlying issues of their failures
