Adam since you're doing the pond talk to your local Fire Dept. about adding a Dry Hydrant for them to use if needed. Could also help with your home insurance rates.
The really big pain in PA, there is no single point of contact. Hiring a consultant is a must to avoid future heartburn.
The rear tire on your brush hog is off the ground a lot, extend your top link to where you have some play in that bracing, it will help you mower float a little better.
Hey Adam, great video! Just a thought, consider conifers around the pond to help avoid algae and to add shade areas for the fish. I also have a man made ice pond from the 1930's and had to remove most of the deciduous trees because the leaves create unwanted silt. Also line your pond with clay based material for water retention. Can't wait to see it happen. I'm a new sub and I enjoy all your videos. Ron CT

If you don't have access to a mower, run down to a farm store and ask for surveying flags. Cheap and easy.

Following with interest! I want to build a several acre pond, just have other priorities right now.
Permit!? I have over 300 acres, I've built roads through the woods, a pond plus a few structures in the woods near the pond and I've never got a permit for any of that. I find it mind blowing why anyone would think it's ok to have to ask someone else if it's ok to do something on your own property. There's NO ONE who's going to tell me what I can and can't do. I mean seriously, ask permission to build something on your property. Do you realize how stupid that is.
Nice video, something satisfying about watching a field get mowed down. being spring fed should really keep the water clarity up. We had a pond on the property when we made the purchase, not the prettiest one but we have been slowly working at it. I would suggest Installing some type of aerator. we had a "pond turn over" that took a lot of oxygen out and killed a lot of the shiners.
That's a lot of mowing! I prefer to let my cows keep the grass down for me - they don't use fossil fuels and they enjoy cutting grass a lot more than I ever did.
Looked like a lot of wasted hay lol. Consider stocking with red ear and smallmouth bass since its a small pond. Consider structure in the pond and adding gravel. Good luck

Very nice video. I am considering the construction of a pond on our rural property in the north Georgia mountains. You've given me alot to think about prior to taking on such a project. Will be watching to see how your pond develops and pick up some additional tips. Thanks for posting!
Friend of mine got a pond for free. Maybe half the size of this one. He went to the fire department about providing a place for them to fill trucks and they needed one so with grant money they stopped up a small brook and put a hydrant on it.
The multi view video of the mowing was very interesting. Really helped to see what the pond would look like.
If you're gonna be mowing all that, you really need a batwing mower and a old tractor. Just advice.

I am in Beaver County. Great project to clean up the wet spots in the field. I have friends that have a pond and loved it so much he told me to build one and and if didn't like it, he would pay for the cost of the build. That is how much he believed in them. Just the relaxation of it all. He and his daughter & son and grandkids had a pavilion there and would do cookouts all the time, fish, canoe, relax and enjoy.

Don’t skimp on depth. Ten feet below your frost line. Cut banks to six feet ASAP to avoid water grass and cat tails. 1/2 acre could be over grown with undesirable plants in a short time.

Your pond is backwards, it's engineered incorrectly. The kidney shape needs to be pointed towards the house and the large radius curve needs to be away for strength and the kidney shape is to capture more runoff water from your land above. I'm not trying to be too far in your business, but..... If you look through aerial photos, farm ponds have always been designed the same way the low side is always the large radius curve with the dam for a reason. Love your videos keep up the good work.

I'm thinking...walleyes, flat head catfish, and small mouth bass.
Your going to want plants that clean the water and think about dredging it due to build up of debris. A water fountain using solar to keep the pound oxygenated might be good for fish stocking and stopping algae growths.
Dig deeper than you think. Sedimentation is real and it's easier to do it now that later. I'm currently dealing with a shallow end of a pond that was 2-4ft and its dry. Dry dry in the summer (drive a side by side on) and its in pa! Way better to dig it down and add structure vs leave the dirt when you have the machinery there.

Hi! What is the name of the music you used for the brush hog segment? Also my family used to live in Lancaster, PA so we enjoy seeing pictures and video of beautiful PA!
When I built my pond I took a 55 gal plastic drum, drilled about 1000 5/8's holes in it, cut a hole to place a solid plastic 6 or 8 inch drain hose in it. Then burred it in the very bottom of the pond and covered it with 2" rock (ON top, all around and under). The bottom is where all the bad water accumulates. I burred the drain hose up the pond fill, under the dirt and out at the level I wanted the pond. All the bottom water drains out instead of the better surface water. If the dam is level and seeded well it will take care of the excess over flow without damage to the pond. When it does overflow the water has a wide distance and just slowly flows through the grass.

I hope you are planning a direct feed of rain water off the roof and outbuildings to the pond or water tanks. Water is everything to a farm.
