It's a beautiful pond but a couple of items gave me concern. When the keyway was dug and ditch was open, the clay was bulldozed in and not compacted in lifts. Also the drain pipe did not have a collar which by it's absence could lead to leaks that follow on the outside of the pipe. Lastly, the attachment connector of the corrugated pipe to the solid wall pipe is prone to leaking. They make a waterproof tape that is supposed to help seal that connection. I've heard Flex-Seal waterproof tape is good for that too.
Keyway way packed in very tight. Never had problems with doing it that way. And the drain pipe doesnt need a collar because it is surrounded by betonite clay. Super incredible stuff. Very good attention to detail though. Sounds like youve built a pond or two
@@janoraoutdoors Thanks for your reply. You produced a great video and a beautiful pond as well. I have had several ponds built for me and some are more successful than others. We learn by our successes and our failures- that's for sure!.
The keyway may compact over time due to the surcharge compaction it will get from the dam. An issue might arise if the ground cracks due to settling, however. Compacting it will bring peace of mind.
Pond looks beautiful but I share concerns for the core not being adequate and the risk for water making it around the spillway pipe. Is there an emergency spillway? The amount of freeboard you have seems too minimal.
The Keyway should have been compacted in 6 inch layers , not bulldozed in and then compacted. The Overflow pipes are too close to the top of the Dam, They should be 12 inches below the top of the Dam, if you have a thunderstorm , with that catchment area, the Lake will overflow the Dam.
Had lots or experience with keyways. The way we pack them works fantastic. The overflows are not to close to the top. For starters they’re well oversized to compensate for wet weather. We also install a low spot (emergency overflow) in the dike. This allows water to take a designated channel if pipes clog or theres a huge flood. Not to mention having overflows 12 inches down in a good way to make your pond look terrible
I haven’t seen a DPF switch inside the cab while watching someone else do a walk around of the machine. I would like to own one of these in the future, seems like a nice machine
@@janoraoutdoors alright thanks, we have 2 springs on our property and one feeds a small pond through a pipe a few hundred feet downhill and the other one is untouched. The one feeding the pond stops feeding the pond mid summer until winter so I wasn’t sure if the other one would end up drying up at any point
@@EliMooner Depends. Sometimes springs randomly dry up. Kinda like wells. Worst case you can always cut some swales of drainage into the pond to get more runoff
A decent pond is vey much more than a sealed hole in the ground. It will not need all of the "stuff" the pond industry sells to maintain the pond. It will also not need to be dredged out after a couple decades which can cost more than the original pond. Think and design before the digging begins. By the way, the worst thing you can do to a pond edge is to riprap with rock or grow grass the edge. A pond edge cleans that water unless you do this. Yes, lots of people do this and lots of people have problems.
As others have also mentioned, always compact keyways. Just bulldozing fill into it defeats the design and purpose of a keyway. It is meant to be compacted harder than it's surrounding.

Fantastic job! Would love to see it all fill in with water if possible.
Nice job. It would be nice to see it when it's filled
I will probably make a video in about a year or so when its filled and has grass. Thanks for watching
Nicely done!
Beautiful, clean, build and nice video production. Pro Job. Post an uldate showing it full with beautiful mowed grass !!
Will do next time im out there. Thank you for watching!

I need someone like you to help me with my ponds in Texas. Great video.
Pond looks beautiful but I share concerns for the core not being adequate and the risk for water making it around the spillway pipe.
Is there an emergency spillway?
The amount of freeboard you have seems too minimal.
We always install an emergency spillway. We surround overflow pipe with betonite clay to stop water from channeling along pipe
could you share the measurements? We would love to build a pond like this on our farm
@@k.matthews1158 This pond took up about an acre, but its an oval. An acre squared is 208 ft by 208 ft.
Do you ever have an issue with water leaking around the over flow since it’s smooth instead of corrugated?
Its tough to tell in this video. But we mix in betonite clay into the material we pack the overflow with. The betonite seals the water off completely
With the water level that close to the top of the dam how do you set the height for the emergency spillway without it already topping the dam?

Do you have any idea how much total expense is?
How deep will the pond be
This pond was almost around 11 feet in the deep end.
How much was total expenses?
Ponds like these can vary from 10,000 - 15,000$ typically
What was the total time to build that? Nice job
Weather was ideal for this pond. We built it in exactly 1 week
Would have been nice to see it filled to really get the finished look.
Planning on doing a video of it filled
Have you ever dug a pond on an existing spring? Meaning wherever spring water comes up have you ever just dug a pond right there?
Yes. Its actually a good sign when this happens. Usually the spring will continue to flow and fill the pond, constantly bringing fresh water in

Why didnt you lay a nice bed under the pipe and blanket on top.those pipe will get damaged
