  • Marc-André Hamelin has recently been featured on US TV prime time. He played his lovely little transcription of the Nokia tune and spoke about cell phones in the concert halls.

    This guy is just awesome. Amazingly humble and has the most wonderful sense of humor musically and otherwise. Met him in NYC 3 times in one year and i don't normally do this but i actually went backstage for an autograph. I was so nervous but he put me at ease immediately and couldn't have been kinder or more humble. Just a really cool guy and an immensely gifted pianist! :)

      I saw him play the Ornstein Quintet in Carnegie Hall back in 2013 and afterwards I went backstage to meet him, but I was so star struck I basically made a gibbering idiot of myself. He did his best to make me feel at ease despite my incoherency and he was just a really awesome guy.

      Hahah i laughed when i read your comments guys because ive already found myself in this situation, the difference is that i didnt even get the courage to go meet him. I was about to push the door and i was just telling myself '' What are you doing you stupid? You will probably just disturb him after a long concert!'' So i just went away telling myself that anyway i didnt deserve that... maybe one day lol when i'll have reach some higher level in my artistry but not yet lol !

    Who else has the Ringtone Waltz as their actual ringtone? I don't even have a Nokia anymore. People get very confused when my Samsung makes that noise.

    How is this possible? The better sportsfigures become the more pride is taking over but the better musicians become, the more humble they become

    • @ebn7722
      @ebn7722 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's because music isn't about being famous. Being a musician is about being engulfed in the beautiful imaginary world of our own playing. Close your eyes and you can easily live an adventure by listening to known or unknown work. Musicality come from this, whence so many "new" pianists tend to be so MECANIC.

    I just came back from a concert at the CSO in which Hamelin played Shostakovich's 1st Piano Concerto, and right after the end of the 1st movement I heard a cell phone going BOI-YOI-YOI-YOING like 3 times. I guess it fit the character of the piece though

    Genius at work... (he cannot lie, I do not believe him his last words.. I feel like he knows pretty well "why people love it soooo much"... (because they are soooo ******, but he can't say this loud)

  • @rtega

    Indeed, my point was that this is not after Nokia, but after Tarrega.

    The last 7 are someone dialing a number. Has anyone bothered to figure out the number that he is "dialing"???

    • @JosephWeidinger
      @JosephWeidinger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Haha, I was just wondering this again and realized I had asked this years ago... But this time I figured it out. The number is: 135-6136. I wonder if it is code for something.

      Joseph Weidinger Nice. I thought he was just dialing random numbers

    • @Packbat
      @Packbat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Probably not a phone number - Hamelin is a Canadian living in the US, both of those countries have phone numbers under the North American Numbering Plan, and 1s are not allowed as the first digits of those numbers.

    that's just rude people...I am sorry but if I go to a concert I just can't forget to turn off the phone...it's like the damn cough..there's always someone sick, you just can't listen to a masterpiece silently in a live concert ( paradox -> listen to music and silence at the same time! )
