    "JETTYWOLF LIVE" - Float-rig fishing, A to Z...sort of.
    Too nice of a day with Ian. Cold yes, but it was like fishing the nursery everywhere we went with limited "keepers" today. Putting just enough in the box for a few meals. "But I like limits" myself.
    But F-U-N, none the less aboard the Jettywolf. Teaching Ian, the in's & out's of fishing the S.O.P "float-rig" that Capt Dave uses to catch everything, from Nov. thru May/June.

      In all reality, I can do all this, and not many will get it right anyhow.....not until they are on the JETTYWOLF, and doing it. Too bad real good float rigging is only a winter technique in the bazaro world river I fish. Too many shit fish, bait stealers the rest of the year.

    But when the latest tackle video is about the Daiwa Ryoga as the best reel but on the Amazon list is the Shimano and Daiwa Saltist...its hard to know which one to start with. Same for reels.

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      during vacations to see family in jersey, when I was 10-12 yrs old, I saw 12-14 pounders at the fillet tables. My largest here in bazzaro world Florida was 7+ on a 52MR mirrolure. TODAY?? Weakfish, are something like 100 per person, and now no one catches even 2-4 pounders commonly at the inlet....used too all the time when it was 4 at 14 inches.....guess its like Buck season. opening them up means they're now gone? OR its really a cyclical species here. We haven't had a burning cold long winter since 2011...that may have something to do with it, migration wise to the deep south.

    Capt Daves, May I know how you measure the depth of the water, it's from the stopper knot to the hook or stopper knot to the sinker. Reason why I ask is because the prawn/ live bait can swim up way pass the depth of the sinker and cause the bait to be more than one foot above the bottom.

    Great video. Many years ago I lived in Jacksonville while stationed at NAS Cecil Field. Loved fishing the St. John river jetty and the bridges on the way to Little Talbot Island. I used live shrimp and float rigs off the bridges. I like your rig and the way you hooked the shrimp. I always hooked through the tail and in retrospect probably used too large of hooks. I have been itching to make a trip back to the Mayport area and do some fishing. Miss that place. :)

    @blaspelegrin4060 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Capt Dave,
    I have recently started watching your videos and I have to say that I am really impressed with them, so much knowledge and no BS at all.
    In the place where I live (the mouth of a river on the Atlantic South West Coast of Spain,
    excuses in advance for my English…) we don’t have access by any means to live shrimp.
    Anyhow, and being probably not optimal, I was thinking about giving it a try to your float
    rig, for we have pretty strong tides here up to 4 knots, but using a jig and soft plastics instead of live shrimp. I have a few questions regarding this on anchor drift float rig set up.
    Imagine I am fishing some 25 feets of water (the average depth here) and I want to suspend my jig at 23 feet.
    If I am using a 2 oz float would you...
    1) - Use a 2 oz jig 30 inches down the swivel?
    U - Use a 1 oz jig 30 inches down the swivel and a 1 oz sinker next to the swivel and the float?
    3) - Use for example a ½ oz jig 30 inches down the swivel and 1 ½ oz sinker next to the swivel and float? I am afraid in this case the float may stay vertical and not go horizontal when the jig is dragging bottom because of the light weight of the jig in comparison with the
    sinker.
    Thanks in advance and regards,
    Blas Pelegrin

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Blas Pelegrin You can get up to 5 ounce floats! The heavier the trout lead (sinker) use in the deeper, swifter the current. Try any local live bait. "SINKER"......PLAY AROUND WITH SINKER AND FLOAT CAPACITY. You'll have to experiment. Most of the time its heavier sinker, and keep hook/jig if ya want ....light. So it looks natural.

    • @blaspelegrin4060
      @blaspelegrin4060 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters
      Thanks Capt Dave, I do appreciate your quick answer.
      And that is what I suspected and wanted to know, that it is better to go for a lighter jig and heavier sinker in order to get a more natural presentation.
      I like making my own tackle. I pour my own leads and even make my own jigs.
      I even make “treble jigs”. I use treble hooks instead of standard ones and I don’t stick the hooks through the soft plastics. I lay the plastics on top of the trebles and bound both together with elastic bait thread. They are more snaggy but quite often the fish hooks itself without having to set the hook (drifting without anchor).
      I have already made several 1 oz and 2 oz float out of Styrofoam. Nothing “bass fancy…” but they are perfectly balanced and they sink exactly to three fourths of their length when 1 oz or 2 oz weight in hanging from
      them.
      I am going to make some 3 oz floats in order to experiment with the local depth and speed of current as you have suggested.
      Thanks again,
      Blas
