  • Here's a special treat for Sci-fi fans! A fully restored audio adaptation by The Lux Radio Theater of the 1953 War of the Worlds film (not to be confused with the 1937 Orson Welles radio broadcast) Starring is Dana Andrews, and co-starring is Pat Crowley. If you listen closely you'll hear a lot of familiar radio voices! The narrator is (of course) voice legend Paul Frees . . . plus you'll hear Parley Baer, William Conrad, Jack Kruschen, Harry Bartell and even "Floyd D. Barber"- aka Howard McNear. The sound quality is incredibly crisp and clear!
    Airdate: February 8, 1955 #waroftheworldsremastered
✓√√✓√✓√✓ STUFF-N-SUCH: Parley Baer and Howard McNear were busy sctors! Both Parley and Howard have been to outer space (Suspense & Escape episodes) Parley was the Depuity Marshall of Dodge City (radio's Gunsmoke) and later became the Mayor of Mayberry while Howard McNear was the town's barber, and "Doc" on radio's Gunsmoke. These guys appeared in more than two dozen episodes of Suspense and Escape, plus many Classic Radio Theater programs.
√✓✓√√✓√ A little more of the old the STUFF-N-SUCH: To me, it sounds like Dana Andrews' performance is a bit uninspired through the first half of the show. I could be mistaken, however. See if you hear the same thing.
    • Every "Movie for your MIND" is uploaded in the best sound quality available today. In fact, this particular program was uploaded in High Quality encoded audio • My Classic Radio Theater programs are in the public domain. The digital restoration has been unselfishly done by Lum Edwards. - 2017-2022 by Charlie Stuckey

I love this movie. The story, the technicolor, the clothes, the cars, and especially the ‘50’s. A great time in American history! Beautiful culture and classy folks back then.😃

The George Pal film is a science fiction classic, and so is the "Lux Radio Theatre" adaptation. I also enjoyed the commercials for Lux and Rinso(the latter featuring the late, great Les Paul and Mary Ford). I was also moved to tears when the studio orchestra played 'A Mighty Fortress' during the finale.

Aside from Les Tremayne, it sounds like the SFX of the Martian heat rays from the movie was reused in the radio play. Hopefully, in the radio play, Clayton and Sylvia got to have breakfast before the next load of Martians arrived.

It's always been one of my favourite movies ,
I actually even enjoyed the Tom cruise version.
Not as good as the original, but for a remake its pretty good.
I generally don't like remakes of classic movies..
I've about 80 mins of the radio version left .
I put it on my tv when I go to bed , had to rewind a couple of times bc I've fallen asleep.
But I'm really enjoying it, in fact I'm enjoying radio tv .
      I'm really pleased I've discovered that .
It's something I wouldn't have thought about had I not seen WOTW , now I have a whole list of others shows after I've listened to this one .
      Thanks again 👍👍

Just a way for them to present thought to the audience that they won't look like humans, since most 50s sci-fi flicks and popular perception of aliens were humanoid. The Martians shouldn't be considered similar physically.
